Britain only country in the world actively trying to encourage spread of coronovirus

So the U.K. isn’t reporting actual numbers as they are refusing to test people for the last month and have today admitted they want the whole population to get it as a herd immunity. But this means they kid and a will die in the meantime and why they are not closing schools or sporting events.

They don’t want people to even log when they get it / are ill. So to the rest of the world they’ll seem like lower numbers.

Has anyone got any scientific data on if you do get immunity? The last I saw was that the immunity level was low and not long lasting and you could get it again?

Apologies for the daily mail link, if anyone has any non daily mail links I will add them.

But for weeks I’ve been wondering why the UK governance and PHE have refused to test people who have clearly had it, and actually been encouraging their partners to go out in the community. They’ve been wanting it to be spread. Have they not seen Italy? If they don’t flatten the curve so many elderly and disabled are going to die because we are the only country doing this.

Maybe in the future it’ll work and we’ll be the last country standing but it seems bonkers at the moment.

lamesword

Fuck off with your Cult of Corbyn propaganda.
Getting sick of all this Tory bashing when anyone with half a brain can see what the government are trying to do and it’s not kill people off.

when anyone with half a brain can see what the government are trying to do

This. Fed up of all this bloody hysteria. Ooooo they didn’t close the schools. Ooooo the schools. Get yourself educated please. The biggest slow down lever at the moment is to STAY HOME FOR 7 DAYS IF YOU HAVE A NEW COUGH OR A FEVER OF 37.8 OR OVER. Stop whining and do it. Oh and wash your hands too. Jesus wept.

I think our govs approach has been much more calm, practical and common sense based.

It's so contagious and alot of the time with no symptoms - so it's never gonna be contained. We need to just take the hit this year then it will go into the normal flu/cold rotation.

Most won't get very ill. Those in high risk groups need just manage their own personal risk.

@pulpfiction1 I agree. People we have to please educate ourselves. The more obvious headline measures are not necessarily the ones that are working the best at this stage. They will happen. Don’t worry about that. The schools will shut (after 2 months of schools shutting you will be actually begging them to open again - so don’t wish for something too soon). For now the best containment measure (which if you stop and actually think about it for a moment is HUGE) is to SELF ISOLATE FOR 7 DAYS IF YOU HAVE A COUGH OR A FEVER. And yes that includes keeping children off school too if they have a cough or a fever. Not only will that have a humungous slow down effect, it is also least disruptive at this stage. It’s a win win. For those who are desperate for mass gatherings to stop and schools to close - it will happen don’t worry. It’s just that it won’t have as big an effect plus when it happens it will happen for a long while. And while it sounds sexy now - it won’t be.

Italy are pointing out they have fit, healthy people in their 20s on ventilators. As another pp has pointed out, why are Italy not treating anyone over 55? Who's needing all the ventilators?

How can high risk groups 'manage their own personal risk' when the govt is doing nothing to help with this? For many at high risk this would mean resigning from their job to be able to stay at home. There's no guidance going to employers to say people with x conditions should be able to 'cocoon' or whatever the govt buzzword is. From our apparently wise and calm govt there's fuck all in terms of advice or recognition of the risks they're exposing these people to. Not even to tell them 'you're on your own guys, make your own decisions'.

If we close schools Bunches of working parents send their kids to their grandparents; this increases the risk on vulnerable populations while decreasing the risk on the young and healthy.

What about ones that live with their Grandparents and the teachers.
Also a lot of grandparents do pick up and drop off.

So you can't say its fact until we have the numbers.

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/03/2020 16:38

I know it's a fashionable phrase at the moment to say 'educate yourself' when someone disagrees with you, but someone interpreting evidence differently can't always be dismissed as a failure of comprehension.

I too had concerns over the demographic of Italians getting seriously ill. From having a look online this appears to be down to high pollution levels and possibly high levels of smokers. Also alot of the worrying information about what is happening in Italy appears to have come from one twitter post that could be bollox or an exaggeration.

when anyone with half a brain can see what the government are trying to do

Anyone with half a brain knows what they've been doing for the last 10 years of government as well.

The NHS has been fucked over by the Tories, which is why it's creaking so badly now. The pandemic model has to be shaped around the 10-years- of-Tory NHS.

People will die because the NHS has been stripped and neglected for the last 10 years.

Tory bashing? After this, brace yourself. There will be a sight more of it.

They closed the schools in Spain and everyone took the opportunity to knob off to the coast spreading the infection far and wide. It made it so much worse.

AmIAPenguin · 23/03/2020 12:11

Well that went well
