AIBU to spray entire contents of shopping?

We are all aware by now that coronavirus lives on surfaces for a period of time. So I have been washing my tins, wiping down my boxes and packaging, etc of shopping when I unpack. Is everyone else doing this? Because the current advice of singing happy birthday while washing your hands isn't quite enough I don't think.

I've always done this. Blush

Bus drivers in my town are handing an antibac wipe to people who are using cash. And I honestly don't blame them..........money is filthy. And well known for hoarding germs

LightAsTheBreeze · 13/03/2020 08:05

Are you in a vulnerable group OP, if not I wouldn’t bother as most folks will get it sooner or later. Obviously vulnerable people need to be protected but if your household is not in that group then you are just giving yourself extra stress

Crazy! I’m not afraid of viruses.
Hand washing yes, cleaning packaging and trolleys no.

Where are the telephone sanitisers when we need them?
Ha ha. Wonder how many people will get this?

I do. And we all know what happened when they left the planet.

All this craziness could be avoided if people just washed their hands and avoided touching their face. That is the advice for a reason.

Everywhere is potentially a source of infection. So instead of trying to clean everything you come into contact with you simply need to massively reduce the risk of being infected by not touching your face with dirty hands.

No need to wipe down potentially hundreds of grocery items and if you don't use a new wipe for each item, all you're doing is transferring the germs from item 1 onto the item 2 and so on.

Another fear I have over coronavirus is that all the good work we've done over the last few years about reducing our dependence on single use items is going to be undone because people see everything that may have been touched by someone else as 'dirty' eg Starbucks refusal to put coffee in reusable cups.

Thanks for the reports - we're now moving this thread to the Coronavirus topic. Flowers

@dayswithaY

💐 for you - my OCD is made bearable by escitalopram & thankfully my really crazy irrational fears are mostly under control but I don't think I'll stop the rituals at this stage around germs
