To think not every coronavirus discussion

Should be moved to the dedicated topic?

I think it’s pretty clear to the majority by now that this is in every respect (economically, politically, and socially) a major issue. Even if you believe “it’s just a flu” and “media hype” or “a conspiracy” you probably noticed lots of stuff has already happened in reality as a result.

It seems a bit childish to pretend to ignore it and to give legitimation to those who want. Like if every cancer related question was moved to health topic or every domestic violence question to relationship.

OP posts:
Rhubarbpeony · 10/03/2020 20:12

It would be too difficult for mods to decide which ones to keep and which to move. I think it works the way it is - those who want to read about it can, and those who don’t aren’t bothered by the many threads about it.

ArriettyJones · 10/03/2020 20:14

Some MNers seem to be a bit shouty about having every thread moved to the dedicated topic.

I suspect they’re secretly quite scared.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 20:15

It's the busiest topic at the moment! Just when you think you have seen every possible question or discussion, there's a new one. Confused
I think it's right that they go in the topic.

meredithgrey1 · 10/03/2020 20:17

I agree. It touches so many areas now (work, mortgages, education/exams, holidays, caring responsibilities, potential disruption to treatment for other conditions, family celebrations, sports and many more) that it's not really still a specific self-contained topic.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/03/2020 20:17

Everybody posting on that topic seems to be a self proclaimed diseases and contagion world expert, and their superiority complex is tedious in the extreme.

So it's as well that they are kept away from the rest of us with their endless "oh so you don't care about everyone dying, eh, EH?!"

And of course when the WHO run out of experts and need MN-based brilliant insight and world-class input, they'll know where to go.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 20:18

It used to be that everything was posted in AIBU so it makes a change to have a second busy topic.

Sirzy · 10/03/2020 20:19

I think it’s right they go in the specific topic. It’s easy enough to find the topic!

Orangeblossom78 · 10/03/2020 20:26

The recent school one is very relevant to parents

SilverySurfer · 10/03/2020 20:29

Unless you have some astounding piece of information about which we should all be made aware, then this and all other threads on the subject belong on the Coronavirus board.

MNHQ will be along shortly to move it for you.

sockittome123 · 10/03/2020 20:32

It's for the people who have anxiety

Shinycat · 10/03/2020 20:33

YABU.

Glad to see all the coronavirus threads moved.

I was getting so sick of seeing them on AIBU that I was thinking of staying away from mumsnet for a month!

Thank GOD they made a new topic for it.

There are some seriously batshit people on those threads!

TheMemoryLingers · 10/03/2020 20:34

It's a good idea to have them all in one place for archival reasons - easy to refer to if we have future pandemics and want to read about stockpiling etc.

Jente · 10/03/2020 20:35

What if you want to post AIBU to think I have coronavirus?

Toria70 · 10/03/2020 20:36

I've never read such unhinged crap until corona virus threads started on here.

Seriously, they need to get a fucking grip.

You've got more chance of being on the first fecking flight to Mars than catching this .......... it's nothing more than media hysteria.

Orangeblossom78 · 10/03/2020 20:38

Take it you'll all not worry one bit when the schools have cases and exec you to keep sending the DC in then? No issue at all

ChicChicChicChiclana · 10/03/2020 20:38

Haven't read the full thread. Yes, all coronavirus threads absolutely should be moved to the coronavirus topic. Anyone who wants to read them can still find them there.

icedmatchalatte · 10/03/2020 20:40

I think the problem t coronavirus pics here is that they're full of misinformation (on both sides), personal opinions masquerading as facts, and outright liars pretending to be someone with plenty of experience in the related fields, you've guessed it, spreading misinformation and personal opinions masquerading as facts.

I'd much rather have a link banner to the relevant NHS/WHO/CDC pages stickied to the top of every board tbh.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 10/03/2020 20:40

Same goes for Christmas Grin !

Yes, HQ, even in December.

icedmatchalatte · 10/03/2020 20:41

*problem with coronavirus topics

chomalungma · 10/03/2020 20:43

You've got more chance of being on the first fecking flight to Mars than catching this

Really.....and what do you base that on?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 10/03/2020 20:43

Take it you'll all not worry one bit when the schools have cases and exec you to keep sending the DC in then? No issue at all

Exactly the kind of hyperbolic wailing I meant in my pp.

Loppy10 · 10/03/2020 20:45

YABU. To be honest I think it's annoying when people think their post is so unique and insightful that it should standalone and not be in the forum specifically dedicated to that topic, especially when it invariable a rehash of things that have been said countless times before .

JamesBlonde1 · 10/03/2020 20:46

I don't think anyone is ignoring it, people are just being absolutely drowned by it. The women in my office are becoming hysterical and it's doing my head in. Megan and CV, that's all I'm f**king seeing!

CokeEnStock · 10/03/2020 20:47

Its like Brexit. People don't want to hear about unpleasant things that might affect them unduly and would rather hide them. Don't understand it myself.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2020 20:47

What if you want to post AIBU to think I have coronavirus?

I have suggested a Coronavirus vote option-

AIO-Am I Overreacting
AINO Am I not Overreacting.
