So have we all given up on our Easter holiday bookings?

Haven’t had a holiday in so long and this Easter’s trip to Denmark has been booked since last Summer, I’m reluctantly coming to terms that we’re not going if things carry on as they are and stupidly because the country is so expensive we booked a non refundable hotel room to save money, that’ll teach us we’ve already been in touch with hotel and they’ve confirmed there’s nothing they’ll do regardless of the situation at the time

Have you got travel insurance? We’re booked to go to the Canaries at Easter, and pretty much resigned to the fact that it’s not going to happen now Sad

worldsworststepfordwife · 10/03/2020 21:12

Email insurance about hotel cost but they won’t help and we’ll not tackle flights until nearer the time

We’ve had a holiday to the UAE booked for months. We’ll be going unless there is official FCO advice not to or an actual travel restriction in place.

Gwenhwyfar · 10/03/2020 21:14

I think I would still travel. If I was booking now, I'd be careful with insurance. If the place becomes a hotspot and the government advises against travelling there, you should get refunded. If the place doesn't become a hotspot and only has a few cases, then it's no worse than being here is it.
I was reading earlier this evening about how the air conditioning on planes isn't that bad.

Ohfrigginghellers · 10/03/2020 21:16

We've booked but I don't want to go tbh.

NoveltyFunsy · 10/03/2020 21:17

if you have travel insurance (which you should have as soon as you book a holiday) you should be ok to get a refund

happytoday73 · 10/03/2020 21:19

I'm just traveling in the UK... So hopefully that'll be ok

Babyfg · 10/03/2020 21:38

What happens if the country we want to go to refuses to have us because we're a hotspot? Like Denmark quarantined British travellers for two weeks?

car1sberg · 10/03/2020 21:43

We're not going away until May so hoping things have got better by then not worse.

Does anyone use Halifax travel insurance that comes with their ultimate reward account? I want to check that will be fine for us given what's going on but it just rings out whenever I call up about it. We have a package holiday booked so I presume it either be them who would refund us rather than our insurance?

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 10/03/2020 21:43

Then you can't go!

Writersblock2 · 10/03/2020 21:49

We aren’t going. We are hoping to be able to change the train tickets for later in the year (they are to an airport) and we are leaving it last minute to cancel the flights in case the destination gets placed on lock down and flights are cancelled, because then we would get refunded. We’d only paid deposit on the holiday itself, thank goodness.

NothingIsWrong · 10/03/2020 21:52

We are going to Wales, so yes we are still going...

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/03/2020 21:53

Nothing of the sort. Unless the foreign office say not to travel then you won’t get anything back from your insurance company.

RiftGibbon · 10/03/2020 21:54

I'm holidaying in the UK so still going.

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 10/03/2020 21:54

I'm booked on a holiday within the UK with train travel and a hotel. I'm really hoping to be able to go, but will make a decision closer to the departure date.

wonderstuff · 10/03/2020 21:58

Cardigan Bay booked for Easter, I'm assuming that will be okay. Must be gutting if people have long planned foreign holidays. All so up in the air isn't it. Presumably by Easter we could all be on curfew, or it could all be getting better?

Andonandonan · 10/03/2020 21:58

Just don’t know yet. We’re supposed to be skiing and it’s a big family holiday so not just down to us. Our personal family unit isn’t at much risk; it’s here anyway at similar levels to where we’re going so we’re not increasing our risk / risking importing it somewhere that it isn’t; government aren’t advising against it currently.

Right now my biggest question is about what if we had to quarantine before returning home / things worsened while we were away / one of us became ill. I need to investigate those with our travel insurance and the answers may affect our decision.

Mainly though, things have changed a lot in the past 3 weeks - who knows where we’ll be in another 3? Which is why we just can’t make a definite decision yet.

ElderAve · 10/03/2020 21:59

If the Foreign Office are saying dont travel, then insurance will cover it. If they're not, I'd still go. Presumably the same would be the case if the host country wont accept UK flights by then.

We have a few days in UK booked. I'm still planning to go unless there are restrictions that mean we can't

LoonyLunaLoo · 10/03/2020 21:59

Nope we’re going unless the advice is not to.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 10/03/2020 22:00

We are still going to Asia as FCO advice hasn’t changed.

Andonandonan · 10/03/2020 22:01

@NoveltyFunsy no refunds via travel insurance unless FCO say no travel to thar specific place (or complete ban on any travel which is unlikely). Which no doubt makes the decision harder for a lot of people. It’s not cut and dried right now. Things may become clearer in a couple more weeks.

Lyricallie · 10/03/2020 22:02

I'm supposed to be going on my honeymoon in Asia in the beginning of may. Unless the government says not to go we won't get our money back so if the plane is going we will be going. Fingers crossed things are better by then.

ScouseMar · 10/03/2020 22:03

Due to go to the Caribbean at Easter, am keeping an eye on all the advice and restrictions that experts are giving (FCO, chief medical officer etc) and the country we are travelling to.

So it will be a last minute decision whether to go or not depending on how things are.

missyB1 · 10/03/2020 22:07

Just a UK holiday in Devon. Our main issue will be if Dh (a hospital Dr) gets his leave cancelled- there is talk of that.

MsJaneAusten · 10/03/2020 22:08

We’re going unless advice changes.
