Anyone else ill?

Woken up this morning with high temperature (39.8-40.3) headache, neck ache and cough. I’m guessing lots of other people also have nasty colds/flus at the moment that aren’t coronavirus just from the numbers that have been tested but don’t have it.

I took cold and flu meds this morning and managed to finish everything that had a deadline of tomorrow (I work from home) and now I’ve isolated myself in loft room as it has an en-suite and don’t want to pass on to elderly MIL or asthmatic dc. Managed to sleep for 3 hours this afternoon but woken up feeling worse. Not sure if I would normally call gp or 111 but doesn’t seem like there’s much point. I’m guessing anyone who gets ill over the next few weeks will be in the same position, managing symptoms at home no matter if it’s coronavirus or a flu. Don’t really know the point of this post, DH is not responding to text messages and I’m a bit fed up!!

I’m not sure what you are supposed to do if you think you have it but haven’t travelled or met anyone with a confirmed case???

ProfessorPootle · 10/03/2020 18:54

I think just stay at home and look after yourself, if symptoms get worse (difficulty breathing) to call nhs 111. They only test if you’ve been somewhere or near a confirmed case. I can imagine lots of people are being missed, I’m in London where there’s a few cases of people catching it without travelling. They’re gonna suggest everyone with cold/flu symptoms self isolates so I guess there will be lots of people in this situation in a week or two.

Sorry you are feeling so crappy. Could be flu? Have you had the jab? Rest up x

plum100 · 10/03/2020 19:15

Headache and neck ache is rare with it apparently- maybe just normal flu but whatever it is I think you are right to try and contain - get well soon xxx

Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 19:15

I'm similar fever overnight.did feel a bit short of breath earlier.
But dc also had fever last week. As you say I'm sure they won't test as focussing on travellers

Managed to get a GP appointment this afternoon after going through triage phone system with GP, receptionists are not booking any appointments at all at our surgery unless miles in advance. Was offered 30th March or speak to GP. Asked me all the coronavirus questions but decided it was safe for me to go in and see someone, I was the only patient there, surgery was totally deserted!! Thinks I have inner ear infection which is why temperature so high and only coming down to 39 with paracetamol and nurofen. Got antibiotics, hopefully be on the mend soon, if self isolation comes in next week for everyone with cold/flu symptoms I might have just got ill in time!!

I'm ill and waiting for a phone consultation. Chest infection, I think it's bronchitis, it's getting painful. No temperature thankfully.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Flowers

Juanmorebeer · 11/03/2020 15:54

I have a cold and sore throat with fully blocked sinuses and ears. It is horrendous.

I had the exact same thing from 4th-8th Feb too. What should I do? I'm just taking everything I can get my hands on over the counter.

FatimaLovesBread · 11/03/2020 15:58

I'm ill been no where but the sofa, bath and bed the last two days. But from looking at different symptom lists online it's more likely flu. Did worry yesterday as the cough is awful but today it seems more productive, less dry

NebbiaZanzare · 11/03/2020 16:11

Yes. Sneezed a lot yesterday. Ran a mild fever. Gave in and took ibuprofen today. I feel mostly fine but somebody has stolen my body and replaced it with that of a 95 year old. It's stay in bed or fall over time.

Being in Lombardia I obviously had a minor well ok, massive freak out when I saw I was over the temperature limit to leave the house for any reason at all. I may have written out instructions for a teaspoon of my ashes to be flown home and buried in the park behind my grandparents house back home in England.

But I found this chart and am clinging to my sneezing like Rose clung to that door. It's just a cold, it's just a cold, it's just a cold....

It didn't help that a doc from our intensive care unit told the press "if your 50 something mum needs to be intubated, and so does a younger person, your mum is out"

As a 50 something mum who'd just sprouted a temperature it was not the most soothing of sound bites.

I went to GP this morning as I’ve got flu like symptoms , because I’ve not travelled anywhere I was told to self isolate for two weeks but if I get worse to ring 111 as I have a couple of other chronic conditions

Purplewhitelie · 11/03/2020 16:25

I’ve had a chronic cold/sinus thing for about 4 weeks but did start with blood shot eyes but no fever.

userxx · 11/03/2020 16:42

I have a cold and sore throat with fully blocked sinuses and ears.

I had that for most of December. When my ears finally popped it was a magic moment!!

sqirrelfriends · 11/03/2020 16:59

Me, I've been signed off by a doctor now but I spent the last week with the strangest cold of my life.

Started with a fever, aches and fatigue, the fever disappeared and I had a mild temp and sore throat for a few days, then 3 days of sneezing constantly. Finally on Monday I developed a cough and a sore chest, now a fever of almost 39 . Doctor checked for pneumonia and it seems my chest is clear but I still have pain. Really hoping it's not corona, I would have infected loads of people last week.

NathanNathan · 11/03/2020 17:03

People who are ill with viral symptoms, please stop going to your GP.

If it is COVID19 you've just potentially infected everyone else.

If it's not you've just potentially given everyone else whatever you have, and the doctor can't help if it's viral!

Use a bit of common sense, look at the NHS website and rest and recuperate.

Haworthia · 11/03/2020 17:15

That’s a really high temp for an adult. It’s more likely to be Coronavirus than flu, surely? This is a virus that no one is immune too, unlike strains of flu.

I think Coronavirus is now circulating widely in the community and you no longer need to have been abroad or in contact with known cases to get tested. Have you called 111?

I guess there will come a point where infections happen so fast they will stop counting - but at the moment I think it’s important to get tested and be counted.

Rowgtfc72 · 11/03/2020 17:30

@sqirrelfriends I had that three weeks ago. I'm assuming it was bad cold/flu. Only thing that bothered me was the sore chest as I dont get bad chests. Or fever, I never get a fever and I was melting.

MuddledUpAgain · 11/03/2020 17:38

Me! Off work with really sore throat-can barely talk. Can also not swallow without serious discomfort. And I know eating and drinking is necessary to get better but it hurts 😖

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/03/2020 18:27

Me I've been awful since the wend.

Saturday night spiked a fever of 39.6 and collapsed on bathroom floor, dd managed to bring me round and I literally crawled back to bed.

Had a high fever of between 38-39.5 for next 48 hours, ached all over, dry cough, could barely do anything more than turn over in bed.

Checked 111 and they're not interested as I've not been abroad or in contact with anyone with CV (that I know of.)

Spoke to a GP on the phone he said stay at home and if I get worse to ring them back.

They're not testing people with symptoms it seems?

SelfIsolating · 11/03/2020 19:23

Delurked and registered to join in.
I'm poorly with the relevant symptoms as are a couple of other people in my family and they won't test us, as I haven't been abroad or in touch with a positive tested person.
GP just said there's no way of knowing if it is what I've got or not, and to self isolate for 2 weeks or until better.

Titsywoo · 11/03/2020 19:33

My DS had fever, sore neck and back, sore throat and weakness/fatigue last week. He was ill for about 4 days with a bit of a cough at the end. Sounds similar to you OP.

buttonmoonb4tea · 11/03/2020 19:55

I'm the same, dry cough and temp yesterday but spoke 111 and they're not interested in testing me. Both my children have viral symptoms too.

Gp was happy to see me as I haven't been abroad. But said there's no way of knowing if it's covid without being tested.

Haworthia · 11/03/2020 21:11

I think it’s scary that none of you are being tested. The official figures must be ten times lower than the true numbers.

FurrySlipperBoots · 11/03/2020 22:23

I've developed a tickly cough in the last 24 hours. I had some random waves of 'fevishness feeling' earlier but that passed off very quickly. I did see a friend from Spain at the start of the week but it would have taken longer than that to kick in wouldn't it? I have been under the weather generally for 3 week anyway, I was just surprised to start with the cough yesterday as I thought I was on the mend. So I don't know if it's the coronavirus or not, but I wish the bloody tickling would stop, it's driving me to distraction!!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/03/2020 07:45

How do they test? Is it a blood test or do they swab somewhere?
