Yes. He was calm and reassuring, letting the country know that they are doing everything they can, giving massive credit to the health workers.
Friends in the UK have Bozo. I've watched him on BBC News the last few days. He's a joke, totally out of his depth.
I saw this posted a few days ago, it was just after the lockdown...
I'm proud to live in this country.
Staying at home here in Spain is not a request or a recommendation, it's just an order. And we're not locked up. We can go outside if really necessary.
Here we're not asked whether that's difficult or fun. Whether it gets us into trouble economically. There's trade. This to prevent (cross) contamination and in the interest of our health. Harsh sanctions if you go out on the street without a valid reason. Beaches, playgrounds and other places that can evoke a collective sense of conviviality are closed and cordoned off. Visiting each other? No way. With several people on the street. No way. With several people in one car? No way. If we move, we have to do it alone, unless one of the two needs something.
Is there resistance and opposition? Yeah. Yesterday before the sanctions were imposed the police had their hands full with (drunk) tourists who think they have rights because they're on holiday here. How about closing the beach? Why close bars? As of today fines from € 500 up to € 2000 or arrest.
I now live in a police state where the army is walking through the streets. No, I live in a country where, on the day the decree came out, the people stood en masse on the balconies and applauded loudly for all the medical staff risking their own lives and feverishly trying to save the lives of others. A country where today, from those same balconies, the national anthem sounds from speakers and telephones. A feeling of togetherness that does not require a European Championship or World Cup. This gives me goose bumps, instead of goose bumps and fear that is present in many people because they don't know where to go.
I wish you strength and wisdom in making a decision that serves the collective.
Greetings from Barcelona.
