The NHS won't. and shouldn't have to, cope with this...

Travel should have been stopped. Borders closed. People put in to lockdown.

Any sane person can see this

Haha funniest thing you be seen. Most same people arent panicking.

WingBingo · 09/03/2020 18:24

The vast majority of whom have been abroad or close contact with someone abroad

That’s because they are only testing those that fit that criteria.

If you use 111 online and follow the patient pathway, even if you report all 3 symptoms, but answer no to being abroad or in close contact with some one who has been abroad, or has the virus, 111 will advise you to do nothing.

Patients currently in hospital with pneumonia are only just being tested.

Really?

edgewater · 09/03/2020 18:25

How do you propose shutting down an entire country?

SparklingLime · 09/03/2020 18:25

“Further measures as and when...” will be too late, @LizzieSiddal.

What? you ben seen? 'same people"? Confused

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 09/03/2020 18:27

BBC is now saying that 'anyone with "even minor" signs of respiratory tract infections or a fever will soon be told to self-isolate'.

Am I reading that right? Anyone with a bit of a cold will now be told they have to self-isolate by our government, while they still refuse to stop people flying around to for'n parts? That would be ridiculous, utterly so.

cologne4711 · 09/03/2020 18:27

People do not get immunity once infected Evidence? Yes you get colds over and over again, but they are different viruses each time.

KaptenKrusty · 09/03/2020 18:28

Tbh the economy is probably way above human life as a priority to the gov! 😂

PicsInRed · 09/03/2020 18:28

China's economy is about to collapse and the virus is expected to explode once they reduce controls.

They may have actually made a terrible mistake in their management of the disaster.

MimiLaRue · 09/03/2020 18:29

OP- then why dont YOU put yourself in lockdown and stay at home if youre so worried about it? Ive noticed all the people screaming that we should lock down are still going out and about themselves! Why? why not lock yourself down and let the rest of us get on with things then.
Noone is stopping you from putting yourself in isolation.

PicsInRed · 09/03/2020 18:30

Economy = food and essential services.
Economy collapse = reference Venezuela. Interesting links to toilet paper.

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 18:30

Yes, it is called prioritising according to need. Would you prefer the NHS to just collapse under the strain already?

UYScuti · 09/03/2020 18:30

it's the governments wet dreaming, the elderly, immune supressed, poor dying
I think they'll just make a performance of taking measures to protect us whilst actually being relieved that this will reduce the social care bill

MulaDd1 · 09/03/2020 18:31

@ThrowingGoodAfterBad they announced that in the press conference this evening, they are hoping that Britain comes together and people will self isolate for the greater good of others at risk. These measures should go live within ten to fourteen days.

If you read the link I previously reported in a good percentage of children the only symptoms were runny noses but those symptoms won’t be the same in other age groups.

cologne, I know that one - it's a new disease, so no one's quite sure. But someone who recovered has caught it again, and antibodies don't seem to be lasting very long. www.businessinsider.com/wuhan-coronavirus-risk-of-reinfection-2020-2?r=US&IR=T

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 09/03/2020 18:34

hoping that Britain comes together and people will self isolate for the greater good of others at risk

But the richer people flying around won't be asked to stop? No I will not self isolate if I catch a cold, not under those conditions. "We're in this together" all over again, do they think we're total fools?

idontlike789 · 09/03/2020 18:34

You need to calm down
Google how many people die of cancer in the UK
Suicide
Homeless people , those figures are more shocking .
Yes it's worrying but it's not necessary to panic .
Just carry on as normal but take care hand washing etc , be mindful.
Keep a eye on the elderly and the vulnerable. People with underlying health conditions etc .

cdtaylornats · 09/03/2020 18:36

80% contracting the virus was not an aim it was the worst possible scenario.

People really have gone insane - in your total lockdown who keeps power stations open?

MauriceandAlec · 09/03/2020 18:37

Oh, yes, 'the greater good', which excludes the rich and penalises the poor. That's really going to work when you have NO money coming in, do not qualify for SSP with your zero hours gig or are on UC and must continue job searching, be available for any and all work and report regularly to the JobCentre. And what you likely have is a bloody cold!

Flagg · 09/03/2020 18:37

keeping the proles working is more important that protecting lives.

Absolutely. The last thing The Man wants is for us wage slaves to have even a couple of weeks 'unearned ' leisure. We might get a taste for it.

Lynda07 · 09/03/2020 18:37

This is worrying. Not for me, personally, because I don't go out and don't live anywhere that has the virus - yet. However there are people working abroad, my son is in France at the moment after which he is going to Germany. I suppose it is possible he and colleagues won't be able to come back here as expected. He phoned me this morning and told me some of the French dates might be cancelled in which case he'll return home and then go out to Germany as expected but it might not be that easy.

Sheesh this is one helluva virus.

Letsdoanamechangeagain · 09/03/2020 18:38

Yeah, there is a cynical part of me that thinks perhaps the government would like enough of this disease to pass around to bump off a good chunk of the elderly and infirm.

Think of the savings they could make in state pension and disability payments... 🤔
