AIBU to report lack of self isolation to school?

A family with 2 DDs in my DDs school returned from a short holiday Venice on Saturday. I have seen photos of them enjoying themselves in Venice on their social media accounts so know that they definitely went.

They have sent their DDs into school today rather than self isolate against the latest advice from the government. The parents' attitude is that we'll all be exposed at some point so there's no point self isolating!

Would I be unreasonable to phone the school and let them know or should I keep quiet? One of the DDs is in the same class as my eldest DDs.

Reporting to the school feels a bit like dry snitching though?

Is there a more proactive and direct way you could do it - do you know the people well, in the sense that they're your social media friends?

Could you perhaps contact them to say something on the matter?

Hingeandbracket · 09/03/2020 11:01

dry snitching
WTAF is that?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/03/2020 11:01

Let the school know. They are supposed to self isolate even if they have no symptoms.

LIZS · 09/03/2020 11:02

Is it not self isolate if showing symptoms not generally, unless advice has changed today.

Selfsettling3 · 09/03/2020 11:03

Snitching is a phrase used by teenage bullies. Raising your concerns and potentially saving lives is more important.

LolaSmiles · 09/03/2020 11:03

Let the school know. They're putting others at risk and it's a shitty attitude to have.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/03/2020 11:03

GinDaddy
The school will need to take advice on whether or not it can stay open thanks to them going in.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/03/2020 11:04

LIZS
Venice is in the Italian Lockdown area so it’s self isolation even if symptom free.

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 09/03/2020 11:05

Forget the 'dry snitching' whatever that means and tell the school.

Selfsettling3 · 09/03/2020 11:05

@ LIZS advice from the 26th February has been to self isolate if returning from Northern Italy

Returning travellers
Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people if you’ve travelled to the UK from the following places in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms:

Iran
Hubei province in China
lockdown areas in northern Italy
special care zones in South Korea

Pilot12 · 09/03/2020 11:06

Tell the school and they can take advice from the appropriate authorities.

Patchworkpatty · 09/03/2020 11:07

Absolutely you should tell the school.

Snitching? Grow up ! This is peoples lives. My DD has impaired immunity. I am desperately hoping schools are closed soon, just to prevent her being exposed to selfish fuckers like this. .. and yes, school closure will be incredibly inconvenient and costly to our family but I don't care as long as she's safe.

Longtalljosie · 09/03/2020 11:07

Absolutely tell them. There will be immunocompromised kids they have to keep an especial eye on and they need this information

Findumdum1 · 09/03/2020 11:08

my family member returned from a week in Venice the week after half term so before the advice changed to self-isolate irrespective of whether you have symptoms. They are not self isolating and were moaning about the local gym being closed for a deep clean and they had to go to a different one. I find this astounding.

unluckyagain · 09/03/2020 11:09

Won't the school know where they were? Presumably as it's not school holidays they had to get permission?

PinkCrayon · 09/03/2020 11:09

How selfish of them, absolutely tell the school.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 09/03/2020 11:09

Yes, I would.

ConcernedForAGoodFriend · 09/03/2020 11:10

Absolutely tell the school immediately. Just checked the government website and Venice is a lockdown area. If they're travelled back from there within the last 14 days they must self-isolate. If there are any immuno-compromised staff or children at the school then they could be putting them at serious risk. The school is going to need to close and deep clean because of these selfish arseholes!

@GinDaddy, what is your deal with 'snitching'? I've seen you suggest posters are doing this several times over MN. It's bizarre.

FailingMeansYouArePlaying · 09/03/2020 11:12

Snitching? Are we 12?

Raising a concern with the school in order for them to take the necessary precautions is the sensible thing to do. Some people baffle me. OP you're concerns are valid. Please report to the school office.

Gilead · 09/03/2020 11:12

How thoughtful of them. I have friends who teach who are immunosuppressed. Angry
Please tell the school, the parents have no idea if someone is going through chemo etc. The school do.

Bellesavage · 09/03/2020 11:13

Are you sure it wasn't The Venetian in Las Vegas? Wink

GinDaddy · 09/03/2020 11:13

BTW I agree that it's selfish of them. 100%.

I'm also laughing inside because of the number of people who drop their kids off at nursery and school who are basically unwell, to the point of running a high temperature, and they do it because they have a presentation they can't miss at 10:00 .

I've even heard stories of someone dropping their very sick child off to school (aka childcare) in order to make a work thing, knowing they'd get a call to come back and pick them up, but in the meantime they could do the presentee-ism thing.
