With the virus here, are you washing your hands more?

YABU - No
YANBU - Yes

I am. I washed them frequently before, I have a DD who is 1 and I am a primary school teacher but I’ve definitely become a more frequent hand washer, particularly at work.

Designerenvy · 08/03/2020 09:51

I've always washed my hands but definitely more that Covid-19 has landed.
It's my attempt to protect those most vulnerable, I know a lot of people in the "at risk" groups and I'd hate to be the one responsible for them getting it .

altiara · 08/03/2020 09:52

I wash my hands all the time as it is.
But I am encouraging my kids to wash their hands more.

thecatsthecats · 08/03/2020 09:53

Not more frequently but more conscientiously. Hotter water and a proper pump of soap, for thirty seconds.

Bottleofcorona · 08/03/2020 09:56

I’m not convinced this alone makes much difference. Sanitiser would but as it’s sold out everywhere its not possible. The minute you wash you hands you are touching something else. You would need to wash your hands 100 times a day for it to be effective. Saying that I am washing my hands more

SimonJT · 08/03/2020 09:57

No as I wasn’t a grubby non-washer before.

Ffsnosexallowed · 08/03/2020 09:59

Bottleofcorona - surely the same thing applies with sanitiser? I'm washing my hands more thoroughly and more often. Using hand sanitiser when I get in my car, get to work and get home. Sales in hand creams must be going up too!

TheMemoryLingers · 08/03/2020 10:00

No, as I have always been a conscientious hand washer.

AhoyMrBeaver · 08/03/2020 10:01

Not more often, but more thoroughly, right up my wrists, and for longer.

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/03/2020 10:07

I’ve always been a very thorough hand washer. I remember one woman commenting that I wash my hands the way they’re taught in the NHS, but yes, I probably am a bit more. I wash them when I get in after being out now, and I’ve made some hand sanitiser for when I can’t get to a sink. It’s great for when I go on the bus etc. I already had some rubbing alcohol in my bathroom and some lavender oil, so I just bought a bottle of aloe Vera gel. Even that was the last one on the shelf though, and from what I could see from a few shops all the surgical spirit was gone.

PancakesNWaffles · 08/03/2020 10:13

I’ve always washed my hands after the loo and before eating or preparing food, but not otherwise. So possibly a bit slack in general.

I’ve been washing my hands much more frequently and using hand sanitiser for the first time ever over the past week or so.

Ironically, for the second time only in my life (I’m in my 40s) I’ve got a very upset stomach at the moment. Bloody typical!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/03/2020 10:15

Yes

Eatsshoootsandleaves · 08/03/2020 10:18

Yes, and my hands are already so much drier as a result. I normally wash before food/after using the toilet, now we have to wash our hands in arriving at work and when leaving. Am I right to predict the next binge-buy item is going to be moisturising hand cream?

Mrsjayy · 08/03/2020 10:18

Yes if im coming in from outside i am washing my hands or in different buildings im washing my hands . I am not doing it more than usual at home though.

Longdistance · 08/03/2020 10:21

I’ve always washed my hands. But I’m now spending longer doing it.

Doglover123a · 08/03/2020 10:22

I am always a good Frequent hand washer . And I have hand creams everywhere . I have a problem with sneezing though . Occasionally it comes on me unawares . I was unloading dishwasher this morning and I sneezed but didn’t catch it all . Dishwasher gone on again .

Hellohello2020 · 08/03/2020 10:24

Hand sanitizer is not as effective as soap and water as it doesn't actually remove the germs, just kills bacteria, but not viruses

AllPointsNorth · 08/03/2020 10:24

No, I’m a primary teacher.
‘Nuff said really.

Ethelfleda · 08/03/2020 10:25

No, because I always wash them frequently anyway. After returning from being out with the general public, after toilet use, before handling food etc. And it pisses me right off that now I’m nearly out of soap, I can’t buy any anywhere!

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 10:26

Yes, and more thoroughly. For example I wouldn't normally make washing my hands the first thing I do when coming home, but now I am.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/03/2020 10:26

Yes I am actually. I was always a handwasher ‘before’ but am certainly more thorough now.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/03/2020 10:27

Our work has also asked us to open doors between offices with a tissue too.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 08/03/2020 10:29

No, I wash my hands regularly anyway.

Mrsjayy · 08/03/2020 10:29

I had to buy carex "strawberry laces "soap yesterday Blush I couldn't get normal liquid soap anywhere in town.

Ruby8719 · 08/03/2020 10:29

No - I washed them a lot already, I wash them all the time at home, having two cats, feeding cats, preparing our food, emptying litter trays etc
