(oh FFS - hand washing, not handling)

custardbear · 09/03/2020 06:22

Yea, small things matter. So washing hands more frequently, for now reason' ie when I am in the kitchen at home or work for any reason, doing a better and longer wash, rinsing taps whilst washing so I don't re-contaminate
I'm also using more antibacterial wipes /spray for things at work and home

custardbear · 09/03/2020 06:23

... pressed too soon*
Also using my body/elbows to open doors, push doors etc where possible

I’ve always washed my hands a lot but I’ve definitely been washing them a little more in the last few weeks. Straight away when I get home, and an extra couple of times throughout the day at work (public facing).
I wonder if a good thing that might come out of this will be that people wash their bloody hands properly? The one that really winds me up is women that come out of a toilet cubicle, wave their hands under the tap for a second with no soap and then put them under the hand drier. What do they think this achieves?!

No I am not washing my hands more. I have always washed them a lot. I have been told I am a bit obsessed and I do like to wash them well.

Many schools don’t make the children wash their hands before they eat. Imagine the germs they are picking up just being in the classroom.

KahlanRahl · 09/03/2020 08:36

No, I already washed my hands a lot before anyway. Anytime I came into the house, before touching food, after visiting the toilet, after cleaning and gardening, before opening the fridge etc. I am immunocompromised though.

Hi everyone, we've moved this to our Coronavirus area

hookiwooki · 09/03/2020 12:44

@Aridane eczema.org have advised using your usual emollient for handwashing (and this should be sufficient) and reapply thoroughly afterwards, and avoiding alcohol based products wherever possible.

If you have to move through high traffic areas and open lots of doors/use several handrails (tube, train, bus, etc) you could try gloves to minimise contact and therefore handwashing?

Flowers I sympathise. My DS has eczema. Info link here:

Yes I am, it's a sensible precaution and easily done.

Apirateslifeforme · 09/03/2020 22:21

@Aridane hookiwookis advice is very good. Were bought nitrite gloves from Costco for about £6. Weve not used them yet, but it seems like an option when we do run out of sanitiser.

MamaFlintstone · 09/03/2020 22:24

I am. Before I’d only wash my hands at work after going to the loo, now I’m washing between arriving at work and getting to my desk and at regular intervals throughout the day. Also trying to make an effort not to touch my face so much.
