Stock piling

GinDrinker00 · 06/03/2020 18:51

It’s officially reached where my parents live, very very close to home. They’ve told me to stock up for when it hits here. They’ve just been out shopping and the shelves are apparently bare.
AIBU to stock pile a small supply incase the shelves get cleared here? It’s already started the Pasta and toilet roll are completely out of stock along with medications like calpol, paracetamol and that’s with just getting it delivered. Hmm

I have most of my Brexit stockpile left fortunately, and have added to it this week.
If you think you need to do it, I wouldn't hold it against you. Do what you are able to, it's only going to get worse I think.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 19:10

It is very difficult to stockpile when there's nothing left on the shelves at the supermarket even in areas with no known cases.
I would love to know what everyone is doing with all the loo roll.

SistemaAddict · 06/03/2020 19:11

It's always sensible to have a stash of food and supplies in and this is exactly why. Don't panic, just get what you need if it's available of course. Include some treats. Come over to the brexit cupboard or preppers threads for advice, you will be very welcome.

Me too. I'm glad I still have a pack from my Brexit stockpile and also asked my DH to get another pack about two weeks ago! At least we have enough for about three weeks. After that we might need to use flannels.

cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 19:13

(but then I probably won't be able to get washing powder)

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 06/03/2020 19:15

I'm now very glad that we have a huge pile of old towels in the garage. If necessary we can cut them up and use them instead of toilet roll!

Hugglespuffed · 06/03/2020 19:18

Why was everyone stockpiling toilet roll for brexit?

ValleyoftheHorses · 06/03/2020 19:20

Loo roll or the components imported from EU.
I’m glad I stockpiled for Brexit, I have a nice stash for Covid without having to do much. I have about 6 months worth of loo roll!

Hugglespuffed · 06/03/2020 19:22

Wow so there won't be loo roll?! Surely there will be? I wouldn't have space for 6 months worth of toilet roll

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 19:31

From what I can gather people will be living on a diet of loo roll, paracetamol, hand gel and tinned tomatoes. Yum!

GinDrinker00 · 06/03/2020 19:35

Luckily I don’t need to worry about toilet roll I have 200 rolls from Brexit 😂 just not much food left as been on hard times. Will try and stock up on basics and snacks in the morning, worrying a bit incase they sell out over night!

Went to Morrison’s today and there weren’t many packs of toilet roll left or longlife milk. Plenty of fresh milk, bread etc.
I stocked up a little but don’t have a lot of space.
There was no hand gel in stock, obviously!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/03/2020 19:43

What area are you in roughly OP?

AuntieStella · 06/03/2020 19:44

People stockpile loo roll because it doesn't go off and you won't stop using it, so your stash will get used.

If there are major dislocations to supply, then food and medicines will prioritised. Things like bog roll will be way down the priority list, but it's the sort of thing you'd really miss if you couldn't get.

Though I was surprised at the number of people (on the earlier thread) who said they use family cloths.

meditrina · 06/03/2020 19:45

"What area are you in roughly OP?"

I clearly have a filthy mind, as this doesn't strike me as a good question icw toilet paper!

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 19:48

Is the stockpiling for if you have to isolate yourself for two weeks or more the fear of not being able to get any? Confused

GingerBeverage · 06/03/2020 19:52

I would love to know what everyone is doing with all the loo roll.

I'm just taking the paper off and throwing it away because I'm making some beautiful art with the tubes. Probably make a fortune on Etsy.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 19:55

Yes, it could be the Mrs Hinch thing where put the rolls in your curtains. I don't understand it, Grin

I am a bit worried because I hate tinned tomatoes. Sad

GinDrinker00 · 06/03/2020 19:59

@ThroughThickAndThin01 can’t really say but north. Sorry to be vague.

@sparklingbrook for isolation. I know eventually the shops will restock after the panic but if everywhere gets shut down, who knows how long it’ll take for things to get back to normal.

bobstersmum · 06/03/2020 20:14

I've always got a stocked freezer but today I've bought lots of tinned and packet foods, and just topped up really. Will be used anyway so can't do any harm!

Amazon has loads of different toilet rolls in packs of 45 or 72, I always get mine from there in bulk as it’s convenient and free delivery

bellinisurge · 06/03/2020 20:28

@BobTheDuvet , which do you prefer to wipe your bum - newspapers or bits of old flanelette sheets?
If it's the latter, that's family cloth. Ideally different colour for each family member. That way you don't get mixed upGrin

TroysMammy · 06/03/2020 20:29

Is having the shits a symptom of coronavirus?

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 20:48

It's not to do with having the shits apparently it's to do with not being able to get your hands on loo roll for an extended period. Unless eating all those tinned tomatoes doesn't agree with you that is...
