What measures, if any, are your workplaces taking?

Curious to know the types of organisations and different measures.

I work for a corporate and UK travel has stopped and all external meetings have to be changed to teleconferences.

My husband also works for a corporate and they have dotted hand sanitizer all over the office but no other measures yet

Both still expected in the office as usual

We have hand sanitiser for clients on entry (we always did anyway but are pushing it more!).

Stocking up on consumables that come from China and wholesalers have advised may go out of stock in the months to come due to supply chain issues.

MissPoldark · 06/03/2020 11:23

None. Spoke to the boss about it, who is intelligent with medical qualifications. Thought I was being dramatic by suggestion we shouldn’t attend a conference at the end of next week.

Wolfff · 06/03/2020 11:26

UK civil service. Message yesterday basically telling us to more or less keep calm and carry on.

Filthy washrooms in my building. Desks and phones don’t appear to be cleaned regularly. Hotdesking is in operation which is mandatory.

Ironically most people here including myself have Surface Pros and can work from home. While saying that the system did crash when a lot of people did so in bad weather a couple of years back.

ProfYaffle · 06/03/2020 11:28

Nothing tangible as yet but lots of planning going on that most staff will probably be unaware of. Things like extra citrix licenses in case large numbers of people have to work from home, discussion about how to handle leave and under which circumstances to pay, at what stage to close public facing offices etc. All being very carefully communicated so as not to trigger panic.

Songofsixpence · 06/03/2020 11:35

We had a meeting with our staff yesterday - just going over the information on the .gov website

We’ve stocked up on materials. Most of it comes from Italy and China so we’ve made sure that we can operate for a few months if there are supply issues.

I’ve bought hand sanitiser and tissues and dotted them around the factory, stocked up on soap and paper towels. Printed out some hand washing guidance and stuck it up in the loos

About it really.

Unfortunately very few of us can work from home - I can as I’m office based and our systems are all web-based but we’re a manufacturing company so the staff have to physically be here to build it.

RipleysCat · 06/03/2020 11:37

Apart from letting ill colleagues who have recently come back from near the lockdown in Italy spray their germs all over the office, not much.
And a few snide emails which have the air of we know you’ll take the piss you lazy bastards.

WingDefence · 06/03/2020 11:39

All international travel has been banned and non-essential UK travel is now strongly advised against. I wfh anyway and travel for internal/external meetings so will just make them all virtual for the time being via Teams/skype. Our company's well set up for that and we do it a lot anyway.

I was in the London office this week and there are bottles of hand sanitiser everywhere, plus wipes, and posters up in all the kitchen areas and toilets etc. I took some last night to wipe down the train table and armrests etc where I was sitting for 2+ hours.

But talking to colleagues, no one has said they should be commuting into the office yet but I suspect that'll happen soon for non-client facing days.

Kawahara · 06/03/2020 11:47

Large meetings, involving people travelling have been cancelled. I am still attending one next week, but it's me and 2 others.

They send anyone with a sniffle home. We have to show travel documents for any holidays. so they can verfy you havent been to a hotspot.

We have to keep h&s updated.

We have just order extra IT equipment in as we are preparing for the eventuality of closing and all working at home.

Kawahara · 06/03/2020 11:48

We dont need to travel internationally for work. So dont nothing there

Mintjulia · 06/03/2020 11:50

Small technology co. although with employees from 17-66.

We have hand sanitisers on every desk, everyone can work from home anyway, but we aren’t talking about it anymore because some of the younger staff were showing signs of panic.

So very much business as usual.

SouthwarkRoad · 06/03/2020 11:50

We work from home anyway, but my DH is in an office and anyone with any cold or flu symptoms at all has been ordered to WFH for 2 weeks or until the symptoms are completely gone. This is regardless of travel history. Everyone in his office has hospital grade hand sanitiser on their desk, anti bac wipes for keyboards and phones, there is an antibac hand sanitiser by every door (on each side), and the office is fully disinfected every day instead of cleaned twice a week as usual.

TipseyTorvey · 06/03/2020 11:50

No international travel until further notice and lots of hand gel dotted about. Culture is very flexible so if we all need to work from home it probably wouldn't cause much disruption short term.

SouthwarkRoad · 06/03/2020 11:52

For my team, we all WFH anyway, but any in-person London meetings have been cancelled and will be done by Zoom instead.

GCAcademic · 06/03/2020 11:52

I work in a university. Business travel to China has been banned, but we have a large number of Chinese (and Italian) students and staff who are free to come and go to those countries in a personal capacity, with no policy of self-isolation. Business travel to other countries, conferences, etc is ongoing. I'm amazed we haven't already had cases.

Babytigerrr · 06/03/2020 12:01

smallish family run business.

Nothing much has changed. More hand gels dotted about. Instructions to wash hands more (like that even should be necessary!)

not many of us could work from home, and i cant imagine i'll get paid if schools are closed and i cant come in. (I actually could do most of my job from home, and pop in twice a day to pick up/ drop off stuff so i will suggest it to them if this happens!)

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 06/03/2020 12:08

I work for a fairly large organisation and so far we have received the standard hand washing diagrams and today been asked to check and update our personal details on the system in case we move onto wf home policy. This makes no odds to me as I am field not office based - but I have emailed my line manager asking him if they can provide hand gel due to us not having washing facilities during our working day. I'm sure hq is well stocked with it but they probably haven't had a thought about those of us out and about all day!

bilboraggins · 06/03/2020 18:11

Interesting variety of measures. We have received an email to say expect changes in policy in the coming days/weeks. I think they are waiting on a case to be close by before they tell those who can, to work from home.

Pppppickupapenguin · 06/03/2020 18:29

I work frontline nhs and we're still waiting for stocks of FFP3 masks.........

bilboraggins · 06/03/2020 18:34

Must be a worry @Pppppickupapenguin and for all those who can't simply work from home too.

I think NHS staff and all essential workers will be appreciated more than ever before

insancerre · 06/03/2020 18:38

I work in a nursery
We have put up a couple of posters we have been sent

thegirlwhowaited · 06/03/2020 18:42

No snide emails. Although quite a few people taking the absolute piss. We should have taken bets who would go off in our area. We have been correct thus far. Only waiting for 3 more and we have a full house.

Plenty of the company usual do-goody emails.

Encouraging office staff to isolate if necessary. I would love to know the numbers who have. Clearly weren’t expecting operational staff to do likewise. Panic setting in.

No option for operational staff to stay at home so I expect chaos is a-coming.

theoriginalunoriginal · 06/03/2020 18:42

Not allowed into the office if you have any symptoms...so you know also can't go in if you've got a bit of a cold. I've just had to cancel loads of meetings as I've got a bit of a cold so now have to work at home.

NomDeDieu · 06/03/2020 18:42

I work in a university environment.
Same as usual with a few more hand gel and cleaning insisting on door handles and switches.
Many of the tutors are travelling, sometimes a good distance. Students too.
Nothing has changed

Utini · 06/03/2020 18:45

I work for a large corporation. We have sanitiser dotted about regularly, and new signs in the toilets about handwashing techniques.

Travel between sites and internationally is now banned in almost all cases.

Managers have been updating contact details and we've all been told to take our laptops home every day - I assume if a case pops up in one of our offices we'll all be asked to work from home.

Fatfat · 06/03/2020 18:47

I work for a large travel company. It’s BAU apart from some more hand sanitizer around. If we were to not travel for business, what confidence would it give to our customers?!
