What measures, if any, are your workplaces taking?

Curious to know the types of organisations and different measures.

I work for a corporate and UK travel has stopped and all external meetings have to be changed to teleconferences.

My husband also works for a corporate and they have dotted hand sanitizer all over the office but no other measures yet

Both still expected in the office as usual

I’m NHS staff.

We’ve stuck a sign at the door saying what to do if you suspect coronavirus, i.e. don’t come in, and that’s it.

We are almost out of alcohol gel as it keeps being stolen. By staff and patients as a box has gone missing out the storeroom.

Other than that business as usual. I don’t have any faith in the NHS’s ability to manage this.

RiddleyW · 06/03/2020 22:50

Not much at mine other than an email telling staff that stealing hand sanitiser would be treated as theft. I’m a bit disappointed in my bosses actually, I think encouraging wfh at this point would be sensible.

StampMc · 06/03/2020 23:02

I suppose one of the things about the NHS is we’re already washing our hands constantly and there is already gel and hand washing posters. Clinical staff can’t work from home and rarely travel internationally so a lot of precautions other workplaces are taking are irrelevant to us.

ScorpionQueen · 06/03/2020 23:09

Primary School
Nothing. If I hadn't taken it upon myself to remind children of the importance of handwashing during assembly I don't think anyone from SLT would have bothered. I did ask what they thought would happen if there was a pandemic and was told that we most likely merge classes. Nothing like being a bit proactive. Hmm

tangledyarn · 06/03/2020 23:43

NHS (mental health) nothing much so far, wash your hands, let us know if you are sick, ask patients to let us know if they have travelled and feel unwell etc. I expect things will change as government policy does but its business as usual at the moment.

middleager · 06/03/2020 23:49

Education related, but office based mainly.

Sweet FA. Management are in denial or ignoring it. Boss thinks I'm insane for even asking what the plan is.

Colleagues joking and think it's a fuss over nothing.

The frustrating part is we could all work from home but it's not even been mooted.

Nutkin123 · 06/03/2020 23:58

Nothing at all apart from an email on "how to wash your hands"

Private company and statutory sick pay only, which if you're self quarantined for two weeks would fuck over a lot of people. Not great at all.

daisychain01 · 07/03/2020 08:12

Public sector, civil servant.

Almost daily reminders on intranet based on Government Comms
Guidance to take laptop home each day (I already do)
Hand wash sanitizers in all toilets.
A procedure being put in place next week to sanitize keyboards docking station and mouse in hot desks every time someone different occupies it.
Guidance to wfh as much as poss.

catsandlavender · 07/03/2020 08:20

I work in a school. Nothing really has changed except signs up and I presume the Head was keeping an eye on where children returned from after half term but as far as I’m aware no one has been told to stay home.
I am washing the kid’s hands four times a day and disinfecting my classroom morning and evening, though.

emilybrontescorsett · 07/03/2020 08:25

Public sector
Lots of info telling US to wash hands etc but members of the public can still enter in and out and touch equipment etc.

JJPC · 07/03/2020 08:29

My stbxh works for a very large, multinational company. As of next week everyone will be WFM for at least 2 weeks.

LittleCandle · 07/03/2020 08:31

We've been told we can wear masks if we are worried, provided that they are worn and disposed of correctly. But given we work with the public, in hospitals, we are exposed to lots of stuff all the time. As far as I am aware, nobody has taken them up on this offer.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/03/2020 08:32

Very few people ever WFH at my firm usually, but they've asked us to all take our laptops into work to get them set up for home working (or they'll send instructions on how to set a desktop up yourself).

We have had emails round about hygiene and there's Dettol spray which we spray on our desks at home time.

I think they're anticipating us having to WFH at some point and they've had board and management meetings to discuss, decide and approve the Corona virus policy.

WeAllHaveWings · 07/03/2020 08:45

Leadership have a crisis team that meet every morning
international and UK travel ban
Lots of handwashing advice and more handsanitisers in loos, kitchens on walls around the building than a hospital!! Including reception and you are asked to use when entering building in the morning.
Increased daily cleaning regime by contract company.
Anyone who had been to a high risk area/or in contact with someone is self isolating
One office was closed and deep cleaned after someone was being tested (result was negative)
All emergency contact systems have been tested for mass updates if an office will be closed
All office based employees have been reminded to take laptops home every evening and to check they can connect from home.
All visitors have to be checked/answer a questionaire BEFORE they come to the office.

All pupils in Ds's school had a talk yesterday in first period. Advised to wash hands before/after eating/loo/sports. They asked how 1300 pupils where meant to wash their hands twice in 2 toilets where half the basins don't work within a 15 minute breakfast break. No answer. They have fingerprint recognition to pay for food and they wouldn't comment on that either when pupils asked.

Yorkshireswithallroasts · 07/03/2020 08:55

Large university. Absolutely nothing. No extra hand sanitiser, no extra cleaning, international travel, including China, as normal. Emails saying 'we're monitoring the situation', which means they aren't...

NaToth · 07/03/2020 09:01

Higher education. We've had a round table meeting and now my manager and her manager are working on an action plan - so nothing.

StylishDuck · 07/03/2020 09:05

Large corporate. Hand sanitiser, signs about hand washing, extra cleaning, reminders to take laptops home every night, WFH if you can, do as many meetings by Skype as you can. From Monday we have to record our own temperatures on arrival and visitors are not allowed on the premises unless they have their temperature taken first. International travel is banned but not UK travel. We've been told they are just following government guidelines but it seems a lot more extreme than many of your workplaces.

inwood · 07/03/2020 09:08

Exactly the same as @StylishDuck although most of us get the tube in so it seems rather pointless as I'm sure it's a god bed for infection

DollyDan · 07/03/2020 09:09

I work for a large investment bank, all travel prohibited, China/Italian/Korean staff wfh only, all staff in UK (Across 5 sites) split into teams, team 1 (pre existing conditions/pregnancy etc) wfh until further notice, rest split into teams 2 and 3 both on rotation, one week wfh, one week in office, Keeping the teams completely separate, offices deep cleaned ever evening, sanitiser outside every meeting room and all entrances, wipes on all desks and face to face large meetings cancelled, I have worked there for most of my working life and never seen anything like this....

supadupapupascupa · 07/03/2020 09:09

We are compiling the list of requirements to allow us all to work from home. Almost done, then it's a case of making sure all the equipment is to hand and a plan to deliver it all.

inwood · 07/03/2020 09:09

Log and our 'agile working' has been suspended

PhoneLock · 07/03/2020 09:25

I work in a university. A dedicated web resource has been set up giving information and advice ( it's actually quite good). Travel restrictions in place in line with FCO advice.

Otherwise, business as usual. No panic.

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2020 09:26

StylishDuck that all sounds very good, hats off to your company.

BeardedMum · 07/03/2020 09:36

All business travel is also suspended in my work place. I do wonder about the impact on airlines and the service industry.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 07/03/2020 09:40

Big international company, taking this very seriously: lots of crisis meetings, emails with info, intranet page with latest advice. No travel, meetings to be calls/telepresence, anti-bac everywhere, from Monday we are divided into 2 teams alternatively working one week from home then one week from office.
