Despite a member of my household being in an at risk group?

We always washed our hands anyway.

We haven't bought hand sanitiser. We haven't started stockpiling. We're still going to work etc

I think the current coverage is irresponsible. It's mainly causing people with underlying anxiety issues to panic.

Eggman.

What would you have me do?

It's actually quite depressing that the idea of having to wash your hands (which is essentially the only actual thing we all need to be doing) is causing such panic.

(which is essentially the only actual thing we all need to be doing)

People cough and sneeze over the stuff they are putting on the conveyor belt at work on a remarkably regular basis. They cough and sneeze right in front of me. They lick their fingers then hand over wet notes to pay for their shopping.
Pray tell me how I am supposed to wash my hands after every grotty customer does this?

I would wear disposable gloves. Dont touch your face. When you get a break, wash hands and change them for a new pair. Quite common to see staff who handle money here doing that.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 06/03/2020 17:35

I've never seen retail staff with protective gloves on, ever.

Lweji · 06/03/2020 17:52

The viruses don't enter the skin. You should wash your hands before touching personal items or your face or food.

Some degree of contamination is inevitable, though. But it's usually necessary a given number of viral particles to establish infection. So the more we wash and clean, the less likely we are to catch it or transmit it. But it's not a 100% guarantee ever.

Willow2017 · 06/03/2020 18:02

I get one break in 8 hrs!

Nope. Don't think it's that that's causing people to worry. Hmm

Iggly · 06/03/2020 18:05

I was pregnant during the swine flu outbreak and was quite worried. I took extra precautions especially as travelling on the London Underground every day and people in my office (may) have contracted it.

It was worrying but that’s all I could do.

With the coronavirus at least I’m not at risk but am still mindful of getting infected. I don’t want to get ill anymore than I want the flu.

Plus this isn’t just about individuals. It’s about the strain on the nhs if a huge number of people are ill at the same time.

Ronnie27 · 06/03/2020 18:15

All fit and healthy and unbothered here. Will obviously follow guidelines as they appear to help those less lucky though.

cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 18:19

I bet some drivers will refuse to do some deliveries too all they need to do is leave it on the doorstep or by someone's door if it's a flat They don't need to have any contact with the person living there at all. Take a photo of the delivery on the dorstep insyad of getting a signature.

That doesn't solve the problem of people being ill and not able to pick or deliver, or there just not being enough slots, though.

undead · 06/03/2020 18:27

I am going business as usual. I haven't taken any precautions. I think they should just let the Coronavirus take its course.

spongejack · 06/03/2020 18:42

@Willow2017 you can't access toilet facilities more than once in eight hours? Where do you work? That's awful!

Willow2017 · 06/03/2020 19:41

Spongejack
Its just a major supermarket.
If i started asking to leave the till to go to the staff bathroom, which would take around 10 minutes round trip each time, every time someone did something gross near me i would get pulled up on it pdq!
I'll stick with hand gel for now😁

kevintheorangecarrot · 06/03/2020 19:42

I already have health anxiety and I am so sick and tired of worrying about it. If it happens then it happens. What can I do? Life goes on.

Willow2017 · 06/03/2020 19:43

I am sure everyone who has lost someone dear to them.and all the vulnerable people out there who are relying on people takung simple precautions will appreciate your selfish attitude no end.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 06/03/2020 19:52

So, I should just let my two vulnerable adult children catch it? Is that what you mean? Just let it take its course and let them become seriously ill or even die? I assume you don’t have any vulnerable relatives or you simply don’t care if they die?

undead · 06/03/2020 19:57

I don't really care. If I get it it's just bad luck no can do. But I am not going to do anything differently. If I fall ill I'll stay at home, of course, as I usually would.

I don't think I understand this hysteria. If it was Ebola going around I would be more concerned.

Willow2017 · 06/03/2020 20:02

I don't think I understand
You think?

Starbuck8419 · 06/03/2020 20:13

That was a selective quote 😊

Wehttam · 06/03/2020 20:38

Everyone carrying on as normal..... Good luck! 🍀

You have no comprehension of the potential catastrophe we face.

Willow2017 · 06/03/2020 20:47

If the shoe fits use it 😉

spongejack · 06/03/2020 20:54

@Wehttam that's just ridiculous scaremongering!

Wehttam · 06/03/2020 20:58

sponge is it? What does it matter if you’re all getting on with it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

stophuggingme · 06/03/2020 21:14

@Wehttam

If there is a catastrophe how safe do you think all the people who have been seen stockpiling will be?
With the police off the streets herding up the corona carriers it will be like a horror movie. No shed or garage or box of tins will be safe

The shops don’t sell guns, attack dogs and panic rooms do they ?

Wehttam · 06/03/2020 22:01

Stop I’m not expecting a zombie apocalypse if that’s what you’re alluding to.

Do you think the global stock markets are in free fall because of the flu?

If people are off sick with a highly contagious virus who will operate the hospitals, train services, old people’s homes, supermarkets, delivery drivers, petrol stations, police, prison guards?

How many ICU beds and ventilators are there in your local hospital?
