Coronavirus!No soap in school
Kelldee · 05/03/2020 17:30
Just been informed by my 11 year old son that they haven’t had soap in school all week,I’ve checked with other parents and their children are saying the same, how can this be happening when we are all trying our best to steer clear of Coronavirus,I’m baffled!!called up KCA school in Kempston and they don’t seem to be grasping the urgency of needing soap,I was told it’s going fast because the children are going a little mad with it,No!! They are obviously using it more as directed. I was rudely told that the soap dispensers are already being checked a couple times a day!suppose we just have to wait until all our children have caught this deadly virus and passed it onto their sick or elderly relatives.

Not that this helps but i do the ordering for a school. I do it every 4 weeks and for the last 6 years we have got through a similar amount of soap, toilet roll and hand towell for each 4 weeks but it is going down a bit quicker now. My last order there was a delay in deliveries as people srated to prep as china news reached our shores so my hand soaps arrived a few days late. This week some items were put of stock when i went to buy them.
I dont think its ok to run out but i can see how they got caught out. If it really has run out they need to send someone to the supermarket to get some extras asap.

Just asked my son and he said it was the same in his school yet we have had letters asking us to remind children to was their hands
ByeMF · 05/03/2020 17:45
That's disgusting as it means they can't wash their hands after using the loo
SimonJT · 05/03/2020 17:46
A school (or any business) shouldn’t be open if there are no handwashing facilities/
tryingtoloseweightnow · 05/03/2020 17:47
That's pretty disgusting. I'd give your child some to take to school
beethebee · 05/03/2020 17:48
Ugh how grim. I'd send my DC with their own liquid soap in a case like this. Children not being able to wash their hands all day is revolting.
Thisisverytricky · 05/03/2020 17:49
Same in my DC school! They had a talk about the importance of handwashing today but no soap...
Kelldee · 05/03/2020 17:49
Oh maybe this has happened here too, thinking to send him to school with my standard family size hand soap pumpnot ideal, just want to keep him safe, thanks for your help.
coconuttelegraph · 05/03/2020 17:50
Obviously I can't speak for the school but my work hasn't been able to get the usual amount of supplies, it's not because they arent trying, stuff is in short supply
Why doesn't your child take some soap to school?
Gingerkittykat · 05/03/2020 17:50
There's no reason they can't go to the supermarket and buy a few bottles of hand soap, the value ones are really cheap. I know they would need several bottles but no excuse.
I would be more worried about norovirus and common illnesses than coronavirus though.
Likethebattle · 05/03/2020 17:50
It’s hard to buy right now because panic buying idiots are clearing shelves.
Glittercandle · 05/03/2020 17:52
I would send them in a with small bottle - I imagine it will be hard for schools to keep up with demand.
Bunnyfuller · 05/03/2020 17:56
@Kelldee
Nothing to add but hello! I work in Kempston 🙂
eeyore228 · 05/03/2020 17:59
Everything is in short supply. I went to get our normal hand wash and their was one bottle left. Given the current situation I done personally feel it's ’disgusting’. Maybe pull together and send some in.
Ariela · 05/03/2020 18:03
There is a reason they cannot send to the supermarket - if like here they've run out on the supermarkets! I tried 3 yesterday afternoon - none.
Largeyellowdaffodil · 05/03/2020 18:05
People will be stealing it.
I signed in at a school today- jumbo bottle of hand sanitizer. Signed out an hour later- gone. They have been through loads this week- all stolen.
diddl · 05/03/2020 18:07
You'd think that there would still be some bog standard liquid soap about?
UncomfortableSilence · 05/03/2020 18:09
I also do all the ordering for our school, I usually do one cleaning order a week which always contains hand soap, our Head asked to order extra as well as large sanitizers and our supplier is struggling, we have received some of the soap with the rest to follow, in Sainsbury's today the hand soap shelf was completely bare.
I am sure the school are trying but we have the same struggles that you are having as shoppers.
Kelldee · 05/03/2020 18:09
Well...I’m going to call him lunch time tomorrow,if no soap is available I’m going to go and collect him from school
Goldenbear · 05/03/2020 18:10
The headeacher at my DD's Junior school is personally spraying every child's hand with sanitiser before they go in to the canteen to eat at lunchtime so yes, I think that's a bit shoddy!
Auridon4life · 05/03/2020 18:12
Aldi in Devon had lots of hand soap but the range had sold out of hand sanitizer. I found some big bottles of purell online at Staples ( they do office bathroom and kitchen supplies) for a fiver.
Rhubarbcrumblerules · 05/03/2020 18:13
No soap in my local supermarket at all, even regular soap, no hand gel, no antibac spray, no antibac wipes, no loo roll. its crazy. Just wanted a regular soap for home.
Just send them to school with soap from home (if you have any left!)
M0mmyneedswine · 05/03/2020 18:16
Our local asda had sold out of all hand soap and sanitizer yesterday so not as easy as just send staff to buy more, selfish people bulk buying so not enough to go round
Kelldee · 05/03/2020 18:17
I’ve told him he has to take our standard family sized soap pump in tomorrownot ideal but I’d rather a blazer pocket full of soap than a sick child
