How long do you think you would last if everything went on lock down with the Coronavirus??
So like total worst case scenario of everything shuts and we all had to stay inside!!
All Businesses, schools closed...EVERYTHING!!
I know it’s quite far fetched but I think about that kind of stuff all the time!
I reckon we could last about a month possibly 6weeks before I started to REALLY panic!!
I have stocked up on a lot of non perishables (but I generally have a fully stocked larder!)
I have stocked up on medicines etc
And today I withdrew approx 700 cash (just Incase!!)

What have you done?how long do you think you would last!?

We'd last a fair while because we have chickens for eggs and grow a lot of our own veg/fruit being in Australia.

We tend to buy flour and grains in bulk and I do have a lot of tinned/jarred things too.

I think we could go on for months really.

LuluJakey1 · 02/03/2020 22:44

Have done a bulk order of cat litter and food online. Am buying toilet rolls for 6 weeks on Wednesday. Apart from that we'd be fine for about 6 weeks. After that I would have to decide which of DC or DH I was sacrificing to feed the cats.

Honeyroar · 02/03/2020 22:44

Won’t your £700 be covered in germs??

Stayathomecorona · 02/03/2020 22:47

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion As I have said upthread the cash is the underground/black market

I reckon internet would be sketchy or very slow since everybody would be using it!! I’m tempted to say...no internet...sorry everyone!!

There's probably enough food in the house to last about 3 weeks. We would probably be having some weird combinations of food though.

After that we'd be at the mercy of emergency food parcels. However, after 3 weeks shut away with my DH and kids (despite loving them very much) I think my sanity would be more of a concern to me than my stomach.

Leflic · 02/03/2020 22:51

I’m in a tiny house. We can’t stockpile if we wanted. No real cupboards and the fridge freezer is a tiny one .
I reckon two weeks max eeking out what we have on ration potions.

Casander · 02/03/2020 22:51

We'd last about 3 days before we killed each other. I think 10 year old DS would survive, he's been training hard on fortnite just incase Grin

14 year old DS would die from WIFI withdrawals within hours

Double3xposure · 02/03/2020 22:51

We have enough food for several weeks, I’m guessing. But I will definitely have killed one or more of my teenagers by then.

NotStayingIn · 02/03/2020 22:54

I have enough unread books to last me a few years. But my red wine and coffee supply is dire. Think I would have to top myself after about a week.

okiedokieme · 02/03/2020 22:55

I have food but it would be pretty boring after 2 weeks. Would still need to walk the dog, that's hardly putting anyone at risk as I rarely see anyone, certainly not close enough to infect or be infected! DD's would be fine as long as their computers work and we can acquire noodles

ladycarlotta · 02/03/2020 22:56

I just stocked up on toilet roll, lentils and oats so we should survive for a good while even though we're a bit shorter on tinned goods than usual. We have a biggish garden and greenhouse but not a lot of seeds right now, so we'd be growing mostly peas, chard and potatoes I think. That'll be fine. If we get really desperate we could kill and eat the foxes that come in our garden.

Do we think it's more resource-effective to let the baby continue to eat 3 meals a day, or revert her to breastfeeding?

BedraggledBlitz · 02/03/2020 22:56

Around 3 weeks. But I'd emerge as a demented husk of myself after managing a small boy indoors for so long.

LemonFrenzy · 02/03/2020 22:57

This is exactly why shops are low on supplies etc because people are reacting to all the hype etc. Sorry OP maybe this was meant to be lighthearted? but this will set people off into panic mode thinking that they need to stock up for a potential sit in. In reality it will be very few that would need to.
Imho.

Atthebottomofthegarden · 02/03/2020 23:00

Well the freezer and, more importantly, the wine rack are completely full so bring it on 😷

Newjez · 02/03/2020 23:13

My neighbor has a shot gun. I've got a good BBQ. We'd just eat you all until normality returned, and then probably spend a lot of time in therapy.

MajesticWhine · 02/03/2020 23:15

Could probably manage two weeks just about. Including out of date or weird stuff. The dogs would be in trouble, they only have about a weeks worth. We have loads of wine though. DH hoards wine.

runwithme · 02/03/2020 23:18

DH would have to work, as he is a police officer. I cant wfh at the mo but my job is quite relevant to national security so they may find a way round it.
Food wise, we could probably get by a couple of months, maybe more. I dont know, we would struggle. I've got carrot seeds...is it too late for spring?!

middleager · 02/03/2020 23:21

A month unless a burglar comes after my stash of Pot Noodles and Lemsip.

middleager · 02/03/2020 23:25

I reckon internet would be sketchy or very slow since everybody would be using it!! I’m tempted to say...no internet...sorry everyone!!

DH still has a video recorder and tape decks. Sure my teens won't mind watching TOTP circa 1991 or listening to Popped In Souled Out...

PickledLilly · 02/03/2020 23:27

We have lots of wine and enough food to last a few weeks but the fags and cans of Coke Zero would only last a few days and then I’m not sure my family would survive being locked in a house with me anyway...

Gingerkittykat · 03/03/2020 03:39

Less than a week as I have medication that is dispensed weekly.

I've just bought 6 months of cat food (not panic buying, my regular bulk order) so the cats are fine.

I'd run out of milk in a couple of days, coffee in a week but be able to feed us weird combos of food from the freezer and cupboards for about 3 weeks.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/03/2020 04:08

We have enough food for about a month I think, although some of the food combinations would be strange. I'm also aware that our spare food is mostly tins of beans, sweetcorn and tuna so we might get fed up with that combination. Protein would be an issue. And dh would get very miserable without milk in his tea. Luckily I drink black coffee.
Ds aged 23 still lives with us. He is a really fussy eater so might struggle.

If we had Wifi we would be ok. Without it we would probably kill each other within days

Stayathomecorona · 03/03/2020 07:52

Interesting perspectives and timescales Grin

Oh how naive we were back in March Grin
