How long do you think you would last if everything went on lock down with the Coronavirus??
So like total worst case scenario of everything shuts and we all had to stay inside!!
All Businesses, schools closed...EVERYTHING!!
I know it’s quite far fetched but I think about that kind of stuff all the time!
I reckon we could last about a month possibly 6weeks before I started to REALLY panic!!
I have stocked up on a lot of non perishables (but I generally have a fully stocked larder!)
I have stocked up on medicines etc
And today I withdrew approx 700 cash (just Incase!!)

What have you done?how long do you think you would last!?

Months with telly.

AhoyMrBeaver · 02/03/2020 21:48

Oh yes, I've got enough toilet roll for the street, so we'll be able to shit with gay abandon.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 02/03/2020 21:50

I could probably last a year or two. Not because I'm a prepper but because I'm the opposite. Terminally disorganised with a massive 6 room cellar. There's tons of fuel down there, charcoal, camping gas bottles, candles etc because I can't be arsed hunting for them so always end up buying more. There's also dried and tinned food that a stick down there when the pantry over flows, with every intention of using it up but then I forget.

Plus we have an old well. And 2 fat cats that'll taste fine with a bit of paxo stuffing.

thenumberseven · 02/03/2020 21:51

It's only DH and I and as we have a well stocked ladder we'd last months.
I cook with bottled gas and have two pressure cookers, one for the gas hob and an electric one, this cuts down a lot on gas usage so bottle lasts ages.
Coping without electricity would bore DH to death as he watches a lot of tv, he'd drive me round the bend

Siameasy · 02/03/2020 21:55

Might have to resort to eating slugs-and we are well off for those and probably there is a year’s worth in our garden
I’ve still got breast milk so DD could resort to that
I’d worry about the cat going without
Would consider eating one of my work mates as he bears a close resemblance to a hog roast

Megan2018 · 02/03/2020 21:56

About 5 mins-we never keep anything in really. But we have a loaded shotgun cabinet so will just go out raiding from all the organised folk Grin [half kidding] or will live off pheasant and rabbit and eggs from our hens.

Months with telly.
........
Me too & internet of course.
I have a lot of toilet rolls; if I was running short I could stop using paper kitchen towels and cut them in half with electric carving knife to make toilet rolls.

As long as the electricity and gas doesn't go off.

CountFosco · 02/03/2020 22:09

I'd really rather not find out. DH and I were discussing if we should get MIL to come and stay with us. She's in her 80s (in good health thankfully) and lives alone 200 miles away. But I suspect she won't want to come until it's too late. So difficult to know what to do.

ScampiLady · 02/03/2020 22:09

We'd be just fine.

We have a log burner, gas bbq and a camping stove so we'd be warm and fed.

Our old dog is happy to potter in the garden.

Well stocked pantry, fridge and freezer.

I bulk buy and keep well stocked anyway out of convenience this time of year. Only difference to my shopping has been to buy Milton, not needed that since kids were babies.

I could always retreat to our bomb shelter if needs be.

KLS02 · 02/03/2020 22:10

a day, i don’t have room to stock up on anything

ByeMF · 02/03/2020 22:11

I reckon we could do a month. Mine and DS drugs would run out though so hopefully there's a pharmacy fairy. The food would get really dull by the end but lazing around watching Netflix would compensate. I'd really miss my mates though.

mineofuselessinformation · 02/03/2020 22:12

I won't elaborate on here, but I have the means to defend myself, and if necessary I would use it to make sure that my family and me were safe, sheltered and fed.

LemonTT · 02/03/2020 22:14

My biggest problem is that I haven’t stockpiled box sets. I am up to date on Netflix and Prime.

I would be forced to watch foreign language series.

It’s incredibly worrying. If I’m going to freeze and starve I need good quality telly.

DesignedForLife · 02/03/2020 22:14

With small children cooped up in a small house? I might move into the shed.

Nitpickpicnic · 02/03/2020 22:17

We’d be ok until the wifi network went tits up.

Then we’d have one last cook up of everything we had, plus all the meds sprinkled in.

I could personally live without internet (did, for half my life) but I couldn’t live with the rest of the family whining 24/7 about no internet.

Ginkypig · 02/03/2020 22:18

If we're talking one small meal a day like one nest of noodles with some onion chopped in or a sausage sliced into and a tin of beans type small then I could very well last a month maybe longer with the sugar rush replacement meal of my giant toblerone from Christmas.

The cat would be fine for a month probably too.

I would need electricity though as I don't have a gas cooker.

Iv got a load of books I haven't had time to read yet, I have a jigsaw, if Iv got electricity then Iv got Xbox and films and Netflix etc

Rose789 · 02/03/2020 22:23

I would say 3 weeks food wise. But by week 2 it would be some weird mixtures and week 3 would probably end up drinking the protein shakes dh bulk bought and hates.
Medication would be a whole other story as my gp only prescribes for 7 days. Plus daily chemo would be tricky 🤷‍♀️

longcoffee · 02/03/2020 22:23

I reckon we've got at least a week before we'd have to resort to using sun cream in place of coconut milk

MollysMummy2010 · 02/03/2020 22:28

Until I run out of cigarettes and wine so probably a day. Food probably a week or two if we ate randomly.

SmudgeButt · 02/03/2020 22:29

DH has a good bit of grisle on him so that will do me. MiL can sit in her chair and freeze. That leaves me and kitten (16 yo!) and she can scavenge if she needs to but prob won't last long without her insulin. That will leave me with 2 fridges full and a lawn that him indoors hasn't cut which will do for veg for a while. Happy to go out with a pointy stick and gather in some swan if I need to.

I'd give me 2 - 3 months minimum before I start staring down the neighbours.

Sobeyondthehills · 02/03/2020 22:30

6 weeks before the cats eat me

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/03/2020 22:32

This thread has reminded me to order more loo roll and long life milk

Not long, maybe 3 weeks. I've eaten most of the brexit stock pile

WishThisWasLangClegGin · 02/03/2020 22:32

Food wise, eating normal-ish, 2-3 weeks. Then the dried/tinned food stocks would give us about the same again, but would be simple pasta/porridge/home made bread type of stuff. Boring but wouldn't starve.

Kids would be ok as long as the internet doesnt go off. We use it for music via Alexa, TV via fire stick, as well as regular online activities.

We do have camping gear, so could resort to getting the camp stove out.

Lots of books in the house, and art supplies, so some entertainment.

Main issue would be if the water went off. But that goes way beyond prepping for a couple of weeks in lock down!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/03/2020 22:39

Well everything wouldn't be shut if the power companies are still open to supply us with power. Also you won't need cash if everything is shut.

Jellykat · 02/03/2020 22:42

Food wise with DS who eats like a horse, about 2 weeks..

We'd be fine with no leccy or mains gas, as we have a LPG cooker and woodburner, and he can charge his phone in the car until petrol ran out.. but without Wifi for him and tobacco for me, we'd probably kill each other in @ 2 days..
