There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

I can't believe I agree with what Trump says

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day!

Dennisreynoldsduster · 06/03/2020 11:05

thanks @PineappleDanish I'm going to download it! I need to start walking a bit more to lose the baby weight so this sounds perfect :)

magimedi · 06/03/2020 12:02

I've just come back from a lovely walk on the sea front (Sussex coast) & it was warm enough to sit on a bench for 20 minutes & I had to take my coat, hat, scarf & gloves off. A bit of sun makes me feel so much better.

Roussette · 06/03/2020 12:16

@PineappleDanish thanks for that idea. I am walking 3 miles a day (trying for every day, sometimes it doesn't work out but definitely trying!) and I'm not far short of 100 miles since beginning of the year, but I'm wavering and getting a bit bored with it.

Stripeyfrog · 06/03/2020 12:21

I'm getting really wound up with Jeremy Vine (for some reason the radio at work is on radio 2 ) every fucking day he does a piece on stockpiling l feel like hes almost encouraging it!!

Roussette · 06/03/2020 12:24

I used to find Jeremy Vine OK. Not any more. He makes it quite clear which way his beliefs lie, and it's often not with fact!

Callimanco · 06/03/2020 12:30

I have a free Android app called 'world walks' which has a variety of walks of different distances. Popping round Krakow with the dog at lunchtime GrinThe one OP mentions is, sadly, iPhone only.

Callimanco · 06/03/2020 12:31

Sorry, pineappledanish not OP.

NoRoomInBed · 06/03/2020 12:31

Officials confirmed 18 people diagnosed with coronavirus have since recovered, while 45 of the confirmed cases are being treated at home.

Some positive numbers there out of 115

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 06/03/2020 13:04

I have come on to my allotment...birds are singing, I can hear the quiet throb of a rotavator. The sun is shining on my face and my tummy is full of tea and the fried egg butty I made on my little stove in the shed.
My grandson is coming over this afternoon for a sleepover and I am at peace.

peoplepleaser1 · 06/03/2020 13:06

My husband works incredibly hard and lives for his day off (Friday).

After a series of work calls his boss has announced that he's appalled that DH took his day off as 'it's a state of emergency'!

So DH has rushed home to get ready for work with his tail between his legs. He had no idea that he was needed today.

I'm livid. His work has no relation to anything linked to Corona- they sell things and like any business may see a downturn of sales for a while......

Sigh.

unluckyagain · 06/03/2020 13:09

Thanks for the app recommendations. All my work has been cancelled so I want use the time productively and get fitter. This sounds perfect for both physical and mental health.

I took this today:

We’ll get there, guys 👍

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 06/03/2020 13:21

Oh, @peoplepleaser1, that's really bollocks (to coin a phrase). It sounds as though your husband's boss is trying it on - sadly I bet he won't be the only one.

DH works in recruitment, and has been told no more face to face interviews or "unnecessary" meetings; I thought he'd be annoyed and that it would make his life difficult, but no, he says it'll actually be easier and is hoping they'll go the whole hog and tell him to work from home! So somebody's happy, anyway!

I'm struggling a bit today as several people I know have started doing various things to limit contact with other people. Initially I thought they were overreacting, which surprised me as they're very level headed normally, but now the doubts have started to creep in - are they right and I'm wrong? What if I'm being too laissez-faire about it? I shall keep sticking to this thread.

Must not Google - must not Google...

On the numbers front I thought BBC we’re taking steps in the right direction on the News at 10 last night as they talked about 90,000-odd cases of global infection, immediately followed by the stat that more than 50,000 have already recovered.

If anyone wants a distracting podcast to listen to I’d highly recommend “You’re Dead to Me” (ignore the name!) which is a BBC history podcast hosted by one of the guys behind Horrible Histories.

PineappleDanish · 06/03/2020 13:33

I love "You're Dead to Me"! I thought the BBC report on the lunchtime news was very balanced too, they talked a lot about how many cases are going unreported as they are so mild.

I wonder if someone at Westminster has phoned up media channels and newspapers and given them a right bollocking for their scaremongering.

Orangeblossom78 · 06/03/2020 13:39

My aqua fit class was cancelled today as the instructor was ill, so have tidied the DC's room it still had some things from Christmas not put away! It was a good distraction and feels a bit neater now. It is lovely and sunny here in the SW, going a walk to collect DC later.

Have been listening to some music as well

Roussette · 06/03/2020 13:47

Doubtful. Because it distracts from Priti Patel and Brexit talks, the former is not going away, and the latter is stalling.

CathyandHeathcliff · 06/03/2020 13:57

@NoRoomInBed can I please ask where you found that info?

MinesaPinot · 06/03/2020 14:00

I have wondered exactly the same thing. It all seems to have toned down considerable from the initial hysterical multi-page "reporting". Mind you, the Evening Standard was still headlining "Virus War" last night following the previous 'On a War footing" which isn't helpful.

DH put it in perspective for me when he said that the 90,000-odd world wide cases wouldn't fill Wembley Stadium which made me feel a little better.

copperstrike76 · 06/03/2020 14:46

I do find the constantly rising numbers really worrying.

I think social media is partly to blame because we get constant updates. Don't remember this with swine flu and remember feeling vaguely concerned but not particularly anxious, and confident that it would all blow over. Don't feel that way now! So thank you for this thread. I think I would feel happier if my husband was not going to the 6Music festival this weekend. It's from 4pm Saturday and Sunday and is in an indoor venue with just over 3000 people. I can't help feeling nervous about it and the press reporting is really not helping!

copperstrike76 · 06/03/2020 14:54

There was a GP on the radio earlier in the week who was quite reassuring if anyone wants to listen - it's a phone-in from 8am on this link: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p08324ms?fbclid=IwAR1c3DBxiM5o2KHVH1AKgJoaIriRh6sUo4Bpsk_B9bkgyYu6SGXEIEw-2OI

The show starts at 6am so you can fast-forward to the phone-in part.

The GP talks some common-sense, no nonsense advice. He is from our local surgery and he is excellent.

Orangeblossom78 · 06/03/2020 15:04

Had a positive experience from our GP this week. Inner city, bust practice. DH has chest infection, is on immune suppressing meds, anyway rang GPs at 9am asked for a telephone call back, within 15 mins our named GP rang and after talking to him (didn't want to come in due to passing it on) prescribed antibiotics over the phone, picked up from pharmacy in 1/2 an hour, so quick.

They checked wasn't in one of the areas etc but anyway, wanted to mention that they can do stuff over the phone and also online for people with conditions and meds etc. they are very fast with prescriptions also

Orangeblossom78 · 06/03/2020 15:05

busy I meant

Orangeblossom78 · 06/03/2020 15:07

On the numbers etc, it does seem they are not mentioning specific locations anymore but areas instead, maybe not to panic people? I'm not sure whether this helps me feel less anxious or more so. I am trying to focus on it being mild in most cases and also, people would not want the publicity of people knowing about them perhaps, maybe it is a good thing
