The government's decision to sanction Israel, a democratic ally in the ME, surely is a reward to all those that have spouted Jew hate on our city streets. If the government is willing to distance itself from Israel won't this be seen as further motivation for the radical Islmist left to continue their campaigns in the UK. It's a shameful moment and it will take a lot to rebuild relations with Israel.

Chief Rabbi and Tory leader react furiously to Labour sanctions

Britain's Chief Rabbi said a trade ban on Israeli settlements in the West Bank was 'truly a dark day for British Jews'.

@iwishitwouldstartraining Israel's right to exist should not be any more complicated than recognising Italy's right to exist.

That's disingenuous. For one thing no one is questioning Italy's right to exist. For another thing, if this thing happened that we all know won't happen, Italians would have other countries to choose to go to in Europe that would share the same religion as them. What other countries could Jewish people emigrate to where Judaism is the main religion? In Israel, 73% of the population identify as Jewish.

That might be why you think Israel has a right to exist, but it isn't why other countries or other people accept Israel's right to exist.

If you make that argument you are saying Israel only has a right to exist because x, y, z and you are making the bar higher than it is for other countries.

Other countries simply exist and Israel should have the same right.

Martymcfly24 · 13/09/2026 10:33

I don't think there are any significant amount of people saying Israel should not exist. More that it should stop murdering and displacing civilians seems to be the main argument.

"From the river to the sea"? What do you think this means.

Cynergy · 13/09/2026 10:42

Babyboomtastic · 13/09/2026 10:36

People don't have the right to live in a country where their religion is the majority. The important thing thing is that religious freedom should be respected.

Can you guarantee that Judaism as a religion would be respected if Jewish people had no country but had to settle in other countries?

Or would it be "not my problem" as I saw you say to a different question about Israelis.

StopMeStopMeStopMe · 13/09/2026 10:43

Zionism has a strong connection to the Jewish nation and identity, this is why it has such negative connotations for many people.

It’s not the slaughtering of tens of thousands of men, women and children and the demolition of Gaza then?

I actually find this constant refrain of “you only object to what Israel is doing because you’re antisemitic” increasingly bizarre, especially when it’s said just under pictures of Jews demonstrating against Israel’s actions.

Martymcfly24 · 13/09/2026 10:44

The Iranian government thinks Israel shouldn't exist and keeps trying to attack them.

Hamas and Hezbollah think Israel shouldn't exist.

29 United Nations member states do not formally recognize the State of Israel.

You don't think that is significant?

Well now you have changed the goalposts there haven't you.

I replied to a post about "people" and "pro Palestinians activists" and you changed it to governments and terrorist organizations.

Changes the argument completely.

Is Italy currently enabling it's people to terrorise, kill and evict people from homes on nearby land or killing aid workers and journalists, apparently in the name of their religion or by means of being Italian?

No I haven't changed the goalposts.

Don't you think there are a lot of "people" within the Iranian government and all those that support them, Hamas and all the people who support them, Hezbollah and all the people who support them and the 29 United Nations member states who don't recognize the State of Israel, and all the people who support their stance.

No but even if they did people wouldn't be questioning their right to exist.

Lots of people think the US is guilty of many terrible things under Trump but no questions if the US should exist.

Or Iran as another example. Maybe Iran shouldn't exist? That's offensive though, isn't it. Of course the US and Iran should exist despite their current leaderships.

Sorry to be pedantic. I think it is not as much about the right for it to exist, but where it exists.

I think if Isreal had been set up somewhere else, such as Nebraska, there would not be this trouble. Apart from the people who lived in Nebraska of course.

Yes you have.

If you want to debate governments and terrorist organizations fine but I presume by pulling this argument you completely accept the premise that Pro Palestinian Activists are not the ones calling for Israel not to exist but merely protesting against the occupation murder and displacement of Palestinians.

Israel exists where it exists and nothing can be done about that now.

Apart from those that want to make it unexist. The proper name for that is state extinction.

People don't want them to keep killing people. It is quite simple really. If they use their religion as an excuse all Jews should be offended.

Yes there are a significant amount of people saying Israel should not exist, unless you think Hamas aren't people, Hezbollah aren't people, etc. Is that what you think?

Again in response to the post about "pro Palestinian Activists"

The only thing they are arguing against is state extinction actively being carried out by Israel.

Not engaging any more with those who cannot discuss in good faith.

Glad to have confirmed you recognise Israel's right to exist. Just like Italy's right to exist and every other country that currently exists.

Because recognising Israel's right to exist should not be any more complicated than recognising Italy's right to exist.

The UN and the vast majority of its members recognise Israel, but they aren't all making a statement about zionism.

Because recognising Israel's right to exist should not be any more complicated than recognising Italy's right to exist.

Shouldn’t be more complicated, sure, yet it seemingly is, according to the 29 UN member states who currently refuse to recognise the state of Israel.

Do you agree that many people, for example those on pro-Palestinians protests in the UK (not every single person on these, but in general) are not calling for Israel not to exist and are not motivated by hatred of Jews?

There has to be an existing state for the possibility of state extinction.

Has Italy had to deal with continuous terror attacks from their neighbours, over decades? Why are you only mentioning one side of the conflict, as if Israel was the sole aggressor?

Yes I agree that many people including those on pro- Palestinian protests in the UK are not calling for Israel not to exist and are not motivated by hatred of Jews.

Some people hold extreme views though, some even support the actions of Hamas and Hezbollah and think they are freedom fighters. Some enjoy chanting "from the river to the sea" and pretend they don't know it's a slogan calling for a single state "free" from ... who do you think?

Unlike @Martymcfly24 I think these numbers are significant.

Exactly. Russia launched a war of aggression on their neighbours, yet is anyone arguing whether Russia should exist?
