I don’t like it when people who don’t normally care about abuse of Christianity are happy to accuse Jews of it .

I'm out now, this is the second attack on me on this thread because I am sticking to the topic of the thread, the first one was deleted. If you have an issue with me posting here on topic please report it to mumsnet and keep your speculation to yourself.

I'm not 'exercised' at all, I just don't really understand why you wanted to come on this thread to minimise Israels actions towards Christians by saying 'oh it's not so bad, look these guys are worse'? Do you think that's of comfort to the Christians who are being spat on, pushed over and kicked or the Christians being driven out of their villages, or the residents of convents being bulldozed? I'm sure it feels pretty bad to them. Maybe you should go over there have a chat to them, show them your little list and ask them if they would reconsider their cries for help?

I’m not minimising acts of hate against Christians. I just don’t like it when people pretend they’re concerned about the Christians when really they just want to prove that Israelis are evil.

Well - since my last message was deleted- can I just clarify and suggest anyone who is interested in persecution of Christians ( not any particular individual- but anyone) should do a bit of research.

Good lord. This is a post specifically about the IDF destroying Christian statues. The whataboutery is tiresome.

Yes. Some posters just can't help themselves-whataboutery all day long.

BelleHathor · 03/05/2026 23:41

The last Christian bookshop owner's name was Rami Khader Ayyad, if his death wasn't being used as some kind of propaganda gotcha that would be known.

He was not killed by Hamas, it was:
"The Gazan Salafi-jihadist group Jaish al Mu’minun, also known as "Al-Qaeda in Palestine", claimed responsibility for the murder.[2][3] it is widely believed that Ayyad was targeted because of his Christian faith and his work at the bookstore."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Rami_Ayyad

Al-Qaeda whom in a 2012 email Jake Sullivan senior advisor to Hillary Clinton said "is on our side in Syria". Al Qaeda where the former head chopper is now "President" of Syria and visited the Whitehouse.

This isn't about persecution of Christians, otherwise listen to the Palestinian and Jordanian Christians that Tucker Carlson has interviewed, they paint a very vivid picture of their daily persecution.

The only blessing from this whole tragedy over the last years is finding out people who actually practice their faith in life and who does so in name only. Truly enlightening.

You’re absolutely right. He wasn’t killed by Hamas. He was killed by a different extremist Islamist group.
Islamist groups present the biggest threat to Christians.
But it is true that extremist Israelis are hateful to Christian Palestinians ( and Muslim Palestinians).
It the extremists that are the problem- not the Jews/ not the Israelis/ not the Muslims - the extremists.
We have some home gown extremists of our own - and they are spreading antisemitic hate on Britain’s streets.

As someone who calls themselves 'a Christian', hopefully you aren't disingenuous enough to not grasp what the objections are to your particular flavour of repeated posts.

As @BelleHathor said 'The only blessing from this whole tragedy over the last years is finding out people who actually practice their faith in life and who does so in name only. Truly enlightening.'
This applies to all religions, of course.

Well I’m not going to lose any sleep over the idea that a couple of posters on mumsnet don’t think I’m a proper “Christian” .
Are you Christian? What makes you think you can judge my faith?

”This applies to all religions of course”…
Oh - really? You’d accuse a Muslim or Hindu or Sikh of not truly practicing their faith because they disagreed with you on an online forum ?

100% all religions, I know Jewish people in Israel who risk their lives, reporting and translating Hebrew for all of us to understand what's happening on the ground.

I know Muslims who took up arms to protect Christian Nuns in Syria in the last village that spoke Aramaic (the language of the bible).

I know Christians in Lebanon sheltering displaced Muslims from the South under threat of bombing.

Humans are Humans.

No - we shouldn’t just ignore persecution of Christians- wherever it happens it’s abhorrent.
Im just pointing out that Israel’s record is a lot better than almost ever other country in the Middle East .
Evidence
https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/

I am in one of the top 20 countries for persecution of Christians in that list. I don't dispute the list, but I do wonder how different folk define persecution. Again, I don't doubt the list, they will have a formula.

On a general point though, being persecuted is a part of Christianity. Blessed are you who are persecuted in my name. So, you end up with the likes of Fox in the US reporting on the war on Christmas. And how a Starbucks cup is somehow persecution. For many Christians, they have a need to be persecuted. Not all of course.

I suppose really, there is active and passive persecution. Where I am is the latter. There are rules yes. It's illegal for foreigners to proselytize for example. But it is not illegal to be a Christian. So ask a Christian here if they feel actively persecuted, they might say no. Because they know the rules. But ask a US fox news viewer if they feel persecuted, they might say yes. Because in their view teaching evolution is persecution.

I find it an interesting subject.

This is what I find interesting about religious persecution. Because @OpheliaWasntMad , if a Christian, could say they are being persecuted for it here on MN. Of course I am not saying Belle or Rain are persecuting you. What I am saying is that a Christian could in this scenario.

I looked at your report on Cristians being persecuted, and I noticed the US was not mentioned. I looked it up. Apparently 59% in the US do:

59% of American Christians Say They're Persecuted, May Not Understand Real Persecution - RELEVANT (relevantmagazine.com)

Yeah, it's a random article, and I am just posting it for the number ( Recall from above, I am in one of the restricted places), but it does back up what I said above, that being persecuted is a part of Christianity.

And this leads into the whole self determination and religious freedom thing. Because one religious person might feel a religious duty to persecute other religions. The Orange order is a prime example of this. So for them to have religious freedom, they need to persecute.

After all, this war we are discussing is really about religion. And with that in mind, if I were to say religion should be banned, look at all the wars, I would be accused of persecuting all religions.

That's why I find it interesting. Nobody wins.

A US evangelical politician voting to ban abortion in their state is practicing their religious freedom, but they are effectively persecuting others who don't believe in their religion.

Religious persecution is a complex thing for sure. Makes my head spin when I think about it.

Losing religious freedom can look like a lot of different things. Sure, it can mean getting locked up for your beliefs, but it can be more subtle too —

The list I provided earlier are countries where there is evidence of severe persecution against religious groups.

The US is not mentioned because it is a serious report - it’s not just about whether people “feel” persecuted.

I live in one of those countries mentioned in that report.

Anyhow, do you agree with what I say about being persecuted is a part of many sects of Christianity ?

That is pretty important when it comes to reporting persecution. Because keeping that in mind, does rather suggest that the 59% of Americans who claim persecution can't really just be handwaved away.
