Conflict in the Middle East

Trump address to the nation this evening - ground assault or ‘mission accomplished’?

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 01/04/2026 12:36

The mood music seems to be priming for a mission accomplished withdrawal announcement doesn’t it?
Though with the troop build up I could imagine this is a distraction ploy and he’ll actually announce a ground assault on an island in Hormuz.

crazy that it’s so unpredictable.

if it’s ‘mission accomplished’ what will the rest of the world do to clear up his mess? Agree a toll with Iran for the use of Hormuz? Can’t see any appetite for military force to clear it.

so frustrating Trump feels no obligation to clear up the mess he’s made. It’s hard to know and scary to imagine where this leaves international relations.

I actually suspect the address will be to float about that rocket going to the moon and perhaps claiming the moon for the USA

This. He will say it belongs to US and start looking for oil and rare Earth metals there.
Also, somehow he will say how lucky we are that he is the President of the US, because the other guys did not dare do it.

starting to think the timing -9pm- makes ground assault more likely. Leaving nato or declaring victory feel like daytime announcements. And surely he’d want the market bounce from ‘victory’ in the day?

Would anyone actually announce a ground assault though? Surely you'd want the element of surprise?

PullTheBricksDown · 01/04/2026 19:01

If my memory of previous Gulf wars serves me correctly, any ground invasion usually starts around 1am to make use of darkness and in the hope of surprising sleeping enemies.

it will be 4.30am in Tehran.

I have no idea what he's about to announce.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 01/04/2026 19:14

So he’s not announcing it before it happens but that it has happened?

Yep, he’s now invading the moon. Should only take 4 weeks.

😂

Does Congress not have to vote over such a big decision?

In theory yes. But as we’ve discovered the US constitution, that they are so proud of,
is a complete paper tiger and in reality if the president wants to rule like an absolute monarch there is nothing that can stop
him. In theory if he defies the courts he could be held in contempt and arrested by the US Marshals but the Supreme Court have effectively granted him immunity and the Marshal Service ultimately report to Pam Bondi, who is a sworn Trump fanatic.

So he can do whatever he want. His powers and liberties far exceed that of any British PM and indeed any British monarch - you would probably have to look to an abolitionist like Louis XIV to find a precedent.

He’s bought the company and is renaming Sharpies, “Trumpies?”

GentleSheep · 01/04/2026 21:46

I expect it'll be a very long and rambling speech where he has a go at the NATO countries and how selfish and cowardly we are, how he's 'changed the regime' in Iran (despite the fact he has not), gone on about how Iran is finished and won't be a threat for the next 100 years, and it's all because of him! Whilst avoiding the reality of the mess that's been caused. Announcing an invasion? I highly doubt it!

So now we can say “He’s not the trumpest pencil in the box”

BerthaPotts · 01/04/2026 22:32

He just said that he thinks King Charles would have stood by him and supported the war against Iran 🤣

BerthaPotts · 01/04/2026 22:32

Quite barmy.

.From cnbc.com. News
This will give you all a laugh 😆

‘ Trump earlier in the day told attendees at a White House Easter lunch that 'I'm going to tell everybody how great I am" during his speech to the nation, according to a video that the White Houseappeared to upload and then make private.
The video, however, continues to circulate online, including one broadcast of the event from .
"And tonight I'm making a little speech at 9:00 and basically ... I'm going to tell everybody how great I am," Trump said at the lunch, which was closed to the media.
Trump also said "the war's going to be over in three days," during an aside about the lack of support from the U.K. and other NATO allies.
"We're sort of pretty much winding that up," Trump said of the war. "Have to take a few more hits."

Here we go with the predictable "biggest, swiftest, most total victory in the history of warfare" nonsense. 😂

GentleSheep · 02/04/2026 02:06

Artemis success - check!
Strongest military in the world - check!
Venezuala all going so well and giving loads of oil - check!

GentleSheep · 02/04/2026 02:11

And on he goes...

Can't argue with his description of the IRGC though.
Iran situation should've been handled by previous Presidents (but of course I have done it far better than they would!)
Trashes Obama's Iran deal - so proud to do that!! Go me!
Midnight Hammer operation - no-one's ever seen anything like it!
Iran were building a nuclear weapon bigger than anyone had seen before! But we took them out.
Eliminated Iran's navy.
Annihilating their industrial base.
Crippled Iran militarily.

GentleSheep · 02/04/2026 02:15

Memorial for 13 US soldiers who died.
We're going to finish this mission.
Short term increase in oil prices entirely due to Iran, not the war!
US has the strongest economy in history, it went from dead in the last administration to record-setting investments in this one!! Woohoo!
Drill baby drill program has give the US so much gas!!!
We have more oil than the Saudis and Russians combined!!
The US is in great shape for the future!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 02/04/2026 02:18

There's the promise of War Crimes, again.

GentleSheep · 02/04/2026 02:18

Iran decimated economically and militarily.
Other countries must cherish the Strait of Hormuz!!
Those who refused to get involved - buy oil from the US! Build some delayed courage and take the Strait and protect it! The hard part is done so it should be easy.
Prices will go back to normal!
We'll continue Epic fury till we've achieved all objectives, will happen soon, we'll bring them back to the Stone age. 2-3 weeks hard strikes next.
No deal - we'll hit all electric generating plants!
US is unstoppable militarily.

GentleSheep · 02/04/2026 02:20

He's yet to talk about the Iranian people and how he is supposed to be helping them? He's just non-stop bragging.

20 minutes of hot air, contradiction, lies, and precious little else. In other words, exactly as predicted.

Oh, managed to squeeze in a dig at Barrack Hussein Obama though, emphasis on the middle name of course.

Yes I caught that! At least he didn't keep going on any longer. None the wiser what he will do next, perhaps even he doesn't know.

Growlybear83 · 02/04/2026 02:33

I found his address sickening. When you hear the leader of one of the most powerful nations on earth talking like that, it’s hardly surprising that the USA is hated by so many around the world.

Stirabout · 02/04/2026 02:46

Offering to sell his US oil 🤣

Meanwhile the markets are buzzing
and Trumps making money

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/04/2026 02:47

T'was a load of shite and nothing.

I've no idea why he called this.Confused
