Seven countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt say they will join US president Donald Trump's Board of Peace, according to a joint statement.

They will join Israel, which also publicly confirmed its participation earlier on Wednesday.

The group of Muslim-majority countries named in the statement are Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan and Qatar.

Good it needs Arab Muslim countries to guide Gaza forward to better times and away from terrorism.

Definitely think it’s better that Muslim countries are involved too.

Will lessen the automatic criticism anyway.

Though I imagine they still are all just doing it for money/power. Maybe I’ve become too cynical though.

I would also think, for Muslim countries, there will be a strong element of helping fellow Arabs - not least as their populations will want to see help provided.

I hope they provide strong advocacy for the Palestinians.

And if they sign up as permanent members it only costs them $1 billion

Yes that is the rate for every permanent member 🤷🏼‍♀️

Trump will be thrilled about that then

Just what he likes

Trying to ingratiate themselves with the mafia boss.

It won't do them any good.

canklesmctacotits · 22/01/2026 03:11

I think it’s more like the don charging them an entry fee to mar a lago, for a shot at the crumbs off his table where he’s been feasting on the souls of murdered children.

Egypt, Jordan and Indonesia, (UAE has agreed too I think) are probably quite good, the rest not so much. Pakistans military are intimately tied with terrorism, Saudi seems to have pivoted to the Muslim Brotherhood and Qatar, well yeah.

EasternEcho · 22/01/2026 05:20

I don't see any point in this board other than personal enrichment of Trump at 1 billion dollars a piece membership fees payable to him. According to the board charter, all members have a vote, but that can be vetoed by Trump as the chairperson.

Saudi I agree but otoh how does that fit with Abdullah's Vision 2030? I thought he was finally cracking down on Wahhabism to avoid upsetting the West?

Who pays do you know? Taxpayers perhaps but is that the same for Blair?

As for other countries better it’s a mix as you say.

The only purpose of this "Board of Peace" is strictly a grift, nothing ever determined where this $1 billion membership fee goes to, and he's trying to get Trumpland into the UAE area. Why he also is selling arms to them, after years and years of an embargo on refusing this. Why he also refused to believe thy had any part in the death and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi, The grift goes on. BTW, Trump’s Staggering $1.4B Payday Since Returning to Office Exposed is a tell tale sign of why he's working his second term much more greedily than the first one.

Trump’s Staggering $1.4B Payday Since Returning to Office Exposed

President Donald Trump has raked in a staggering $1.4 billion since returning to office, according to newly disclosed figures that are raising fresh questions about conflicts of interest and the blurred lines between his presidency and personal profit....

This shows that there is a true international interest in establishing peace in the middle East including the disarming of Hamas and I hope this applies more pressure for them to do so. We have Israel, Egypt and Saudii on the same board so that is some diplomacy to get this thing together. It was also apparent the region needed a break from the UN and it a obvious historical bias in this conflict.

Left wingers have gone apoplectic about this board yet it seems to be gaining traction slowly. You never know they might be responsible for the restoration of health care in Gaza but I am sure there will be those that will somehow use mental gymnastics to argue this is still part of the 'genocide'. 🙄

hattie43 · 22/01/2026 07:05

Will this Board of Peace be actually able to agree on anything will be the litmus test not just signing up .

Twiglets1 · 22/01/2026 07:08

According to Wikipedia, the countries who have joined so far are:
United States (chair), Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Uzbekistan & Vietnam.

Many other states and organisations have been invited and are considering their response including the Vatican city.

The only states to have declined so far are Sweden, Norway, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia.

On 20 January 2026 Trump referenced the "Board of Peace" and said "the United Nations never helped me" as a reason for its existence, claiming his board "might" replace the UN.

The Guardian called it "a Trump-dominated pay-to-play club: a global version of his Mar-a-Lago court aimed at supplanting the UN itself," arguing that the body ultimately outlined bore little resemblance to what the United Nations Security Council believed it was endorsing. According to the newspaper, a charter circulated to national capitals two months after the resolution's adoption made no reference to Gaza, instead presenting the Board of Peace as a permanent global institution.

I agree the UN has been tarnished over it's obvious historical & current bias in this conflict.

It needed reforming but arguably it is being replaced instead, time will tell.

It's only the countries that wish to become permanent members of the Board of Peace that must pay the billion dollars into a fund controlled by Donald Trump, others will serve a 3-year term. Who actually pays I have no idea.

It’s probably go to do with their current spat with UAE over Yemen and the fact that their domestic economic affairs will probably take a turn for the worse as their whole vision 2030 is stuttering a bit. An effort to distract their population? Saudi influencers are spending a lot of time attacking Israel and the UAE atm, it seemingly came out of the blue. It is very unusual this level of overt animosity between gulf countries.

Tbh it’s not entirely clear wtf is going on, it’s a massive u-turn on the abraham accords. Basically thown their lot in with Turkey and Qatar which is interesting given they led the blockade against Qatar a few years ago. Need to do some reading around this but I think they really do not like how influential the UAE has become. But definitely Saudi may not domestically go for wahabism coming back to Saudi but abroad they are going to no doubt be encouraging the worst of the worst.

Saudi of 2 years ago I would have been happy to see on the board. I don’t have to like the countries involved but they should be stable, not supporting terrorism anywhere, able to help Palestinians build stable institutions with transparent financial controls to avoid money being pocketed by Hamas and other general corruption. Without this Palestinians lives will not improve. I hope that the Emirates, Indonesia and Jordan can provide a balance and push for something that will work in civilian interests.

It's a one-man, one-vote arrangement.

Trump is the one man, and has the one vote.

The Coalition of the Billionaires. This is nothing more than a circle jerk of corrupt oligarchs trying to get us drunk on their Kool-Aid. You'd have to count your fingers after shaking hands with any one of them.
I wonder if they'll all fly into the Gaza Riviera on Trump's Qatari jet.
And this Board of Monopoly Pieces ("This is about real estate," said Jared Kushner, more than once) is backed by such upstanding, not-at-all corrupt countries like Albania and Armenia... yay.
Pull the other one. It's got bells on.

Interesting and very worrying. I'm not sure how much better the UAE is (eg. Funding the RSF in the Sudan war and still domestically very repressive) but they do seem to be at least cracking down on fundamentalist groups.
