The government need to act on this. West Midlands police have more than enough man power to police a football match with at most 1000 away fans. I watched West Midlands politics today and there was a politician brazenly saying part of the reason for effectively banning the Tel Aviv fans was they there was 'a moral point about Gaza'. We cannot have local councillors, community leaders and MPs agitating for the anti Semitic ban of fans of one of Israel's premier football teams.

We have to face reality want know that a lot of local residents are anti Israel and have taken this opportunity for VIlla Park to become a no go area for Jews.

Let's hope the decision is overturned and quickly.

Parts of Birmingham 'can't be a no-go area for Jews', says Ed Miliband

The Energy Secretary said Britain 'cannot have a situation where any area is a no-go area for people of a particular religion or from a particular country'.

Can you translate Hebrew? Are the translations correct or have they been wrongly translated?

No I can't. And if I needed a translation, a Hamas supporter on twitter is not where I'd look.

I’ve recognised it.

But for some reason you think the antisemitism that occurred means the MTA fans have a right to be as violent as they want? These people ran through the streets chanting “death to Arabs”, scaled buildings to tear down flags and stole equipment and scaffolding pipes from building sites to use as weapons. Why do you think that’s okay?

Nowhere on any of my posts have I said that "MTA fans have a right to be as violent as they want" STOP MAKING THINGS UP.

Is it really impossible for you to actually have a point of view without inventing things?

Some people for whatever reason (who knows why) seem to invent things others never said. Its very odd. 🙄

So why dont you agree that they, like other football fans who behave violently, should be banned? It seems like you don't want normal rules to apply to them because they are Israeli and/or Jewish. I don't even understand why Judaism was raised at all in the thread. It seems very antisemitic.

Yet you’re painting the ban as a religious thing rather than a usual football punishment? You’re seeming to suggest they shouldn’t be punished

Sorry I wasn’t being an ass, it did come across that way, I was genuinely asking as I wanted to know if the translation was accurate 💐

Good for the Israeli club now saying they don't want tickets anyway as their fans safey cannot be guaranteed, stick your tickets up your arse Birmingham.

Let's hope that going forward the MP and his pals in the police will attend some diversity amd inclusion courses and see how they can make their city more welcoming and safe.

'It is clear that various entrenched groups seek to malign the Maccabi Tel Aviv fanbase, most of whom have no truck with racism or hooliganism of any kind, and are exploiting isolated incidents for their own social and political ends.As a result of the hate-filled falsehoods, a toxic atmosphere has been created, which makes the safety of our fans wishing to attend very much in doubt.”

Not sure what you find so very hilarious, it's a pretty serious issue?

You are being gaslighted.

MTA fans are disgustingly racist to their own players. People have posted quotes from black MTA fans who have been racially abused.

But yes. Instead of coming clean about their racist fans, MTA are now alleging “entrenched groups” have infiltrated the fanbase. Seems legit b

Some fans. Stop labelling everyone on the actions of a few.

Football is a pretty toxic sport in general, this team's supporters no better or worse than others.

No one is being 'gaslighted'. The MP and his mates with their petition have caused the uproar. They should have zipped it and left it to the police.

@AppleStrudel16
If as you claim that your issue is with racism in football fans and not anti semitism, would you support all
attendances by all football fans at all football matches on the basis that 43% of ethnic minority football fans have experienced racist chants at football matches and 74% see racism as a problem in professional football?

Or is the problem just Jewish fans?

What, so you advocate banning every team's fans from every match because some do behave badly?!

What we tend to do is identify those and ban them individually not ban a whole side.

Your attempts to detract from what this is actually all about are so very transparent.

Stadium bans are not new. They are used often and I think that when the fans are exceedingly violent, they can be appropriate. Ajax fans were banned from an entire city!

I actually wrote my dissertation on this topic.

Yes, I do believe that a more frequent use of stadium bans would be a step forward to tackling the issue of racism in football fans. The entire reason such racism occurs is because the perpetrators lose their sense of identity in a crowd and feel more able to express these views. The people around them don’t tend to challenge it.

Should stadium bans be utilised more, there would be more pressure from everyone - fans and clubs, to eradicate these behaviours. I don’t think permanent stadium bans would be right, but for games (or 3, or 5), I believe they could be a very effective tool.

On racism in football fans, why current punishments don’t work, and how they could be improved.

I got a first and my dissertation supervisor who works with Chelsea football club actually took my dissertation with him to a meeting he had with the club’s upper management.

do you have an issue with that?

AppleStrudel16 · 21/10/2025 10:58

Hmm @Gloriia, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you asked MNHQ to remove your remark.

Sorry I didn't mean to demean your dissertation in footie fans.

Did you include other issues particularly how if the local residents where an event is planned are of one demographic <with MPs who have submitted a petition pertaining to conflicts in other countries> then other factors can contribute?
So, for example, the banning of fans can be used as a diversion to hide the other serious issues like for example antisemitism?

Yes. You absolutely did.

I actually looked at how the presence of players of certain demographics in areas with largely another demographic can be very beneficial to the local community. For example, Salah’s presence on Merseyside has reduced Islamophobic hate crimes by a substantial amount.

I didn’t answer the question you have posed because it’s simply not what has happened. Racist football fans have been banned. That’s what has happened, and trying to dress it up as something else diminishes the meanings of the words you’re using.

AppleStrudel16 · 21/10/2025 11:05

I actually included a chapter on antisemitism against Tottenham fans and how that has been tackled, but I’d have to locate the document to read it again to fully remember it - it’s been five years!

So what about the MPs petition about genocide, is that just totally irrelevant in which case don't you agree he hasn't helped matters, actually stoked anger and should have remained quiet on the whole thing?

I think it was ill timed, but the police have made the decision on the basis of the intelligence available to them and the recommendations made by the safety advisory group.

In this instance yes I think he should have stayed quiet because it has conflated two very different issues and has weakened the case for stricter measures for football racism punishments.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/oct/21/standing-with-maccabis-football-hooligans-against-local-police-is-that-what-patriotism-looks-like-now

Jonathan Liew article in the Guardian:
“And really Robinson is just the thin end of the wedge here, the racist canary in the mine, the reductio ad absurdum of an impulse that has long been embedded in our politics. Choosing to stand with the far-right foreign football hooligan against the local police force: this, apparently, is what British patriotism looks like in 2025. Truly, we are through the looking-glass here.”

Well we agree on that then.
