The government need to act on this. West Midlands police have more than enough man power to police a football match with at most 1000 away fans. I watched West Midlands politics today and there was a politician brazenly saying part of the reason for effectively banning the Tel Aviv fans was they there was 'a moral point about Gaza'. We cannot have local councillors, community leaders and MPs agitating for the anti Semitic ban of fans of one of Israel's premier football teams.

We have to face reality want know that a lot of local residents are anti Israel and have taken this opportunity for VIlla Park to become a no go area for Jews.

Let's hope the decision is overturned and quickly.

Parts of Birmingham 'can't be a no-go area for Jews', says Ed Miliband

The Energy Secretary said Britain 'cannot have a situation where any area is a no-go area for people of a particular religion or from a particular country'.

'In this instance yes I think he should have stayed quiet because it has conflated two very different issues and has weakened the case for stricter measures for football racism punishments'

Well we agree on that then.

Which is allowed? You’re probably disgusted you agree with me though!

No no I think it is good that in a debate we can agree on some points.

Stadium bans are not new. They are used often and I think that when the fans are exceedingly violent, they can be appropriate. Ajax fans were banned from an entire city!

Ajax are playing in London tomorrow night.

Okay?

Ajax fans were banned from Marseilles recently.

The entire point of a stadium ban is that it is not permanent. That would be incredibly harsh and likely lead to the revolt of the fans.

Stadium bans are not new. They are used often

Sky Sports described them as "a rarity" and so did Al Jazeera.

Ajax fans were banned from Marseilles recently

Authorities cited the violent reputation of sections of Ajaz's fanbase and the "long-standing animosity" between the two sets of supporters as justification.

What is the 'long-standing animosity' between Aston Villa and Maccabi Tel Aviv?

Well, they’re not new and they’re commonly used. They’re a last resort, yes, but not rare.

MTA fans are violent. That is grounds enough for a stadium ban. See the long ban after Heysel.

Good for the Israeli club now saying they don't want tickets anyway as their fans safey cannot be guaranteed, stick your tickets up your arse Birmingham.

Let's hope that going forward the MP and his pals in the police will attend some diversity amd inclusion courses and see how they can make their city more welcoming and safe.

Edited

Great news that they've decided not to let their fans travel, all's well that ends well!

See the long ban after Heysel

39 people were killed at Heysel, 600 people were injured and 14 Liverpool fans convicted of manslaughter - hardly a relevant comparison.

I think it was ill timed, but the police have made the decision on the basis of the intelligence available to them and the recommendations made by the safety advisory group.

In this instance yes I think he should have stayed quiet because it has conflated two very different issues and has weakened the case for stricter measures for football racism punishments.

On this I totally agree
the ban should have been on the basis of evidence and intelligence provided to the safety advisory committee

the MPs comments have inflamed this whole situation

Jewish community leaders in Birmingham standing outside Villa Park saying they support the ban of Maccabi

They are saying it's nothing to do with religion, or against Jews

"It's a genuine safety concern against hooliganism from Maccabi"

https://bsky.app/profile/implausibleblog.bsky.social/post/3m3nlipmwys2p

The large majority of Jewish callers into Any Answers at the weekend agreed with them.

A sensible outcome. The football club needs to root out the violent contingent and ban them for life.

Sky news isn’t the only authority on this matter.

racism etc commonly results in stadium bans. I don’t know why you won’t admit that.

It’s frustrating. If they had kept out of it nobody would be able to argue it any differently

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/oct/21/standing-with-maccabis-football-hooligans-against-local-police-is-that-what-patriotism-looks-like-now

Jonathan Liew article in the Guardian:
“And really Robinson is just the thin end of the wedge here, the racist canary in the mine, the reductio ad absurdum of an impulse that has long been embedded in our politics. Choosing to stand with the far-right foreign football hooligan against the local police force: this, apparently, is what British patriotism looks like in 2025. Truly, we are through the looking-glass here.”

That Guardian article is brilliant.

AppleStrudel16 · 21/10/2025 15:55

Quite worrying that reform has come out today and said they will ensure the police are under government control because of this.

That is a scary, scary response to something totally normal in football.

AppleStrudel16 · 21/10/2025 16:05

This is a comprehensive but not exclusive list of bans that have been handed out to foreign fans in the UK

This list is pointless and not even accurate - half of the restrictions/fines/bans were imposed after the foreign fans caused trouble at matches played in the UK, or they involved extremely serious violence, e.g. two Leeds United fans murdered in Istanbul, and/or the restrictions were imposed by UEFA.

In the case of the Rangers’ match against Napoli in 2022 (your link -'Rangers vs Napoli (2022) – no away fans at either leg due to safety/policing risk'), restrictions were placed because the Queen died and police resources were unusually stretched - there were no away fans at the return leg in the spirit of fairness;
No away fans will be allowed at Rangers in a ruling that, "as a matter of sporting fairness", will be also applied to the reverse fixture in Naples. Uefa urged both sets of fans to respect an “extraordinary situation” by not travelling to either away fixture.

So the same as this case, where MTA fans have been violent?

Did they stab to death two people at their last fixture?

Did they stab to death two people at their last fixture?

No but they did commit criminal damage. As someone who goes to football games regularly I don’t want the bar for violence being that anything below (attempted?) murder is acceptable.

You’ve been provided with multiple examples of violence from fans leading to stadium bans.

it won’t be enough because you think that it’s okay for people to be violent if they’re Jewish.

BTW, Hungary received a stadium ban in 2021 after racial abuse towards England players. Seeing as MTA fans chanted “death to Arabs”, I think that’s comparable, no?

Investigated and banned by FIFA so not comparable;

After analysing and taking into consideration all the circumstances of the case, specifically the seriousness of the incidents (racist words and actions, throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks, blocked stairways), the Committee decided that the MLSZ would play its next two home matches in FIFA competitions without spectators, the second match being suspended for a probationary period of two years.
