The government need to act on this. West Midlands police have more than enough man power to police a football match with at most 1000 away fans. I watched West Midlands politics today and there was a politician brazenly saying part of the reason for effectively banning the Tel Aviv fans was they there was 'a moral point about Gaza'. We cannot have local councillors, community leaders and MPs agitating for the anti Semitic ban of fans of one of Israel's premier football teams.

We have to face reality want know that a lot of local residents are anti Israel and have taken this opportunity for VIlla Park to become a no go area for Jews.

Let's hope the decision is overturned and quickly.

Parts of Birmingham 'can't be a no-go area for Jews', says Ed Miliband

The Energy Secretary said Britain 'cannot have a situation where any area is a no-go area for people of a particular religion or from a particular country'.

SOME Israelis (and any other people who espouse facism) should not be welcome anywhere in our country

mids2019 · 19/10/2025 12:45

Individuals can be banned by proper mechanism of shown to be engaged in criminal acts. It is standard procedure in football.

What is wrong is banning peaceable Israeli Jews and indeed possibly Tel Aviv fans in this country form a sporting event. That is nothing but anti semitic.

As most people realise Aston has become a no go area for Jews and we really must reflect deeply in this shameful episode.

And the issue isn't antisemitism either. There is a history of violent thugs being banned from away fixtures in the interests of safety. UEFA provided intelligence to the police about known risks around this fixture. But sure, antisemitism...

Theunamedcat · 19/10/2025 12:55

British football hooligans have been banned overseas for years...

Echobelly · 19/10/2025 13:02

I'm Jewish and I'd agree it's not antisemitism. If a team's fans have a history of far-right Islamophobia/racism, I gather it would not be unusual for them to be banned from attending matches somewhere with a large Muslim/black community for safety reasons.

And MTA fans do have such a history, sadly - I don't think there's reason to believe they're being singled out because they are Jewish or Israeli, but because of extreme behaviour in the recent past.

Are they clearly labelled or should we just assume it's everybody?

the issue isn't with any Israelis or Jewish people being in the local area. The issue is the violence that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have carried out previously

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/why-maccabi-tel-aviv-fans-record-violent-rampages-really-banned

Fans, from any club, that behave violently should be banned from attending matches.

I thought the issue was that the police felt unable to protect Jewish fans not that the fans were going to cause trouble themselves.

DEAROP · 19/10/2025 13:10

Are Israeli Villa fans banned from attending then?

Greenwitchart · 19/10/2025 13:12

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Israelis or jewish people in general not being welcome in Birmingham.

It is purely about fans of that particular team having a history of unacceptable behaviour, including racism and islamophobia, and authorities wanting to avoid clashes in and outside the stadium and prioritise the safety of peaceful football lovers.

Does the same apply to SOME Afghans, Somalis, Sudanese, Pakistanis, Iraqis, Syrians or anyone else espousing Islamic fundamentalism?

Mercurial123 · 19/10/2025 13:15

They should be banned, some of their hooligan supporters are ultra right wing.

ARichtGoodDram · 19/10/2025 13:16

I thought the issue was that the police felt unable to protect Jewish fans not that the fans were going to cause trouble themselves.

The behaviour of the MTA fans was mentioned in every statement I read from the police, yet totally ignored by several others in their statements.

Any fixture MTA play is high risk because of the known behaviour of their fans. One of the issues raised by the police was keeping local residents safe from them after their actions in Amsterdam and at other matches

UEFA should have taken this in hand long ago and banned their fans for another period. It shouldn't be on individual clubs/police forces to deal with such a known issue.

If they all support a football team and go around causing chaos then yes. Typically, we do restrict the liberty of people known to incite violence and hate.

Fans, from any club, that behave violently should be banned from attending matches.

People, from any community, that detonate bombs in backpacks, should be banned from pop concerts, buses, trains and planes.

Sounds a little different when some actions are substituted for others

We don't need to assume we just need to look at people who are members of organisations who state fascist views

Hoppinggreen never mentioned football in their statement. Why did you?

And how exactly would a democracy, which is what we are, decide who was a 'fascist'? How would they even know?

LauraNorda · 19/10/2025 13:14

Absolutely, as long as they are clearly members of an organisation with far right (or any extremist) links.

DEAROP · 19/10/2025 13:24

LauraNorda · 19/10/2025 13:20

Hoppinggreen never mentioned football in their statement. Why did you?

Because the people who were banned are fans of a football team, not a whole country. Israelis arent banned from the game. Muslim Tel.Aviv fans are banned.

MissyB1 · 19/10/2025 13:24

OP you know full well why these particular football thugs are not welcome in Birmingham. Stop pretending it’s about being Israeli.

Yes because it makes it seem like some people feel Israelis are above laws and rules and thus expecting them to follow them is discrimination in itself.

AhWeNoss · 19/10/2025 13:28

Of course Israelis are welcome, even if their country has carried out a genocide.

Football hooligans who are violent, attack local residents because they’re Arab or Muslim and generally cause chaos are not welcome. And that’s what these thugs are.

Try reading the petition. Of course it is explicitly about them being Israeli.

The reasons for calling for a ban were:
Ongoing genocide in Gaza: As Israel continues its assault on Gaza, killing thousands and devastating civilian infrastructure, sporting fixtures involving Israeli teams cannot be separated from the wider political context. Hosting such teams sends a message of normalisation and indifference to mass atrocities.
Track record of violence by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans: The club’s supporters have previously caused serious disruption and violence during matches abroad, including clashes and riots in Amsterdam. Their arrival in Aston - a diverse and predominantly Muslim community - poses a real risk of tensions within the community and disorder.
Wider European context: Across Europe, calls are growing to cut cultural and sporting ties with Israel. Ireland has even warned it will boycott Eurovision if Israel is allowed to participate. Sport cannot be an exception when human rights are at stake.

Wiki (!) describes fascism ......Fascism is characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.

That sounds like many groups out and about these days.....interesting times.
