App to boycott Israeli goods

1000 replies

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

What has changed is it has become increasingly apparent that Israel is carrying out a genocide and western government's are doing the minimum they feel they need to do, to not be seen as complicit.

This has been obvious for decades.

Agree, it is so shocking that more has not been done sooner to actually prevent thousands of civilian deaths, something everyone could see, but it is so important still do whatever we can now to prevent more deaths and force our governments to act

Even if you believe Israel is carrying out genocide now it certainly has not been 'for decades'. That is obvious nonsense.

I am strongly against what Keir has done, but am pro a two state solution. Politically, Hamas will take it as confirmation that October 7th was the right action for them, and entrench, and Israeli government will feel betrayed by allies, so what’s left to restrain them? They will likely double down too. The chances of negotiating a hostage release and end to the war to me just went out the window. Why would Hamas give them back if the western countries have just shown them that they will give them what they want without any strings attached?
A promise of declaration of a state could have been used as a powerful bargaining chip to bring the conflict to an end.
Mean this respectfully, but i do think it’s unfair to assume the worst of posters that being against Keir’s actions means being against Palestinian right to self determination.

TBF I think the UK has very little clout in the UN, our politicians are very easy to ignore.

I understand that the UN are meeting this week to thrash out palestinian statehood without hamas (& hopefully the pij etc) and with return of hostages.
This seems to be Saudi led.

It’s Saudi and French led. But with Israel and the US boycotting, it’s difficult to see how to could change anything on the ground in Gaza.

It’s difficult to see any best case scenario for the people of Gaza now.

I agree really, this is the sense I get.

Also as the USA in particular is backing Israel to the hilt, including their stealing of the West Bank, how do you boycott America?

It’s the message to Hamas and Israel and their subsequent likely responses that is the problem to me, rather than how it affects matters at the UN.
“ palestinian statehood without hamas (& hopefully the pij etc) and with return of hostages.” 🙏

Do you think you should have been given a vote? 😂

Well, MPs perhaps as they usually do have a say in things?! They tend to debate then vote. It shouldn't be up to this absolutely stupid PM to decide all by himself to appease some MPs in 'free palestine' heavy constituencies.

He has given a state to terrorists. Well done Starmer!

Disagree.

It is a state for the Palestinians who Israel is trying to kill mercilessly. Well done to Starmer for atleast doing one thing right. Did anyone see the flag being hoisted today? It was a very happy moment in all the misery.

Kakeandkake · 22/09/2025 14:28

A historic beautiful moment. Long live Palestine and the Palestinians in their rightful homeland.

He has given a state to terrorists.
The irony writes itself considering that the Israeli state created in 1948 was also given to "terrorists" who carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Historic Palestine, the most famous being the King David Hotel bombing (which killed dozens of Brits, Palestinians and Jewish people) and numerous attacks in Europe, West Asia and Africa:

"Following the bombing of the British embassy in Rome, in October 1946, a series of operations against targets in the United Kingdom were launched. On 7 March 1947, Lehi's only successful operation in Britain was carried out when a Lehi bomb severely damaged the British Colonial Club, a London recreational facility for soldiers and students from Britain's colonies in Africa and the West Indies.[81] On 15 April 1947 a bomb consisting of twenty-four sticks of explosives was planted in the Colonial Office, Whitehall. It failed to explode due to a fault in the timer. Five weeks later, on 22 May, five alleged Lehi members were arrested in Paris with bomb making material including explosives of the same type as found in London. On 2 June, two Lehi members, Betty Knouth and Yaakov Levstein, were arrested crossing from Belgium to France. Envelopes addressed to British officials, with detonators, batteries and a time fuse were found in one of Knouth's suitcases. The British Security Services identified Knouth as the person who planted the bomb in the Colonial Office. Shortly after their arrest, 21 letter bombs addressed to senior British figures were intercepted."

These terrorist groups were also complicit in the massacres carried out during the Nakba in places like Deir Yassin and Tantura.

Additionally, some members from these terrorist groups went on to be elected into positons of power in Israel:

Actually tbf he hasn't given them anything it isn't in his power to do so. He has just appeased some of his MPs.

His TV appearance was cringeworthy to watch, like a cardboard cut out but with less personality.

Exactly this.

I can't believe the amount of salty comments I have seen today over something they consider to be 'nothing' anyway. I have seen more outrage by some over recognising a Palestinian state, than the genocide that Israel is carrying out.

A historic beautiful moment. Long live Palestine and the Palestinians in their rightful homeland.

Amazing. A Palestinian Embassy. An ambassador to Palestine.
So long over due.
Let's hope even more follow suit.

Next stop - America! The news today said that even the appetite within the US government is shifting and that the UN general assembly this week could see some paradigm shift in the US's stance.

That would be incredible.

The illegal annexing of the West Bank must be stopped and reversed.

C'mon world - show the strength of your combined morality!

UltraCynica · 22/09/2025 16:01

In case it's useful to anyone - here is a proforma email to send to your MP to request them to clarify their stance now that the UK formerly recognises the state of Palestine. Fell free to copy and share:

Dear . . . . .

In light of the action by the Labour Government to state that the UK now formerly recognises the state of Palestine, and as a member of your constituency, I am writing to you, as my MP, to request that you:

  1. disavow your recent vote to ban Palestine Action and to nullify all actions against people peacefully protesting in solidarity with Palestinians
  2. acknowledge that Israeli actions clearly fit the legal definition of genocide
  3. join other Labour MPs in signing Early Day Motion 1310 calling for the immediate suspension of all UK arms sales to Israel.

Can you please update me on your stance and intentions on each of these 3 requests along with your justification for each?

Thank you

I think you're getting ahead of yourself.

They will not 'disavow' a vote regarding a proscribed terrorist group.
They won't stop selling arms globally.
Without any consultation Starmer has unanimously recognised a 'palestinian state' to please some of his MPs. That's it, as Israel have said it means nothing.

They will answer no, no and no.

You do know that Israel is a global leader in cybersecurity, in AI, surveillance, security? They are also world leaders in all areas of medicine and research.

That is without stating the very obvious that Mossad is a formidable security service and one we should be in cahoots with, not pissing off with this silly stunt.

No, I'm not their no.1 cheerleader but the point is they can offer us far more than we can offer them and they will not care if some in the UK shop at Tesco instead of the CoOp. Or if your MP agrees that the oap intifida should not be classed as illegal.

Starmer could well have done irrevocable damage. They are, or were, our allies. It's up to Israel and the Arab states to work out how to deal with gaza and the west bank, not the UK.

How on earth was Starmer ever a barrister?!

No thanks.

What's sickening is Netanyahu planning to illegally occupy more land in the west bank as a result of this. So innocent Palestinians paying the price of the recognition by other nation states.

The Israeli prime minister hinted at part of what would come. He said Israel has doubled Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, which are considered illegal under international law, “and we will continue on this path.”
