mids2019 · 21/06/2025 15:27

Is this the same Iran was enriching uranium for the express purpose of building a nuclear bomb?

Is this the same Iran that was plotting a terrorist attack on a British base in Cyprus?

Is this the same Iran that send missiles against hospitals?

The same Iran which actually has a lot going people in Iran hoping the bombing of military facilities can somehow dethrone a hated Islamist regime?

Wtaf?

Seriously? Well right now Iran is cracking down on anyone who speaks out about the regime.

https://iranhumanrights.org/2025/06/iran-launches-sweeping-crackdown-hundreds-detained-executions-underway/

Iran said that this was 700 israeli/mossad spies having been detained, incidentally.

Iranians don't even like their own country. Israel is doing them a favour

Bombing isn't doing anyone a favour, ever. Have a look at the youtube videos of Iran, normal people videoing normal people walking around streets (most women not veiled incidentally) - I really don't think any of them wanted to be bombed. Regime change is destabilising. If you want social change around specific things, peaceful negotiating is going to be a lot more effective.

Actually I need to edit that - I am not certain it was Iran who said that, I saw it reported on an Indian news channel and assumed the information had come from Iran.

Either way It’s terrible. I particularly admire women’s rights defenders in Iran, so many women have been so very brave.

Across different countries? Genocidal maniac? Hyperbolic language just makes a mockery of reasoned debate.

A lot of Iranians, maybe the majority would welcome a free democratic society but obviously can't stand up to a repressive regime. There was a good article on the BBC that detailed how weakened the Ira moan regime is currently though because of Israel. Basically billions have been spend over the last two decades on missiles and nuclear processing plants with the regime using this as a platform for its existence. This has now gone -gone on 12 days. The IGRCs spectacular defeat which led to Israel having free reign over its skies was a huge humiliation.

Perhaps Trump is mulling whether he can risk Israel finishing the job as it is uncertain what would occur in the event of regime collapses but I think Israel is keen as Mossad have invested hugely in infiltrating I Iranian society and it would be a pity to waste this.

we wait and see......

There’s a huge amount of misinformation about this. Israel and the US launched a cyber attack on Iranian air defences which succeeded in disabling the system for around ten hours. Once it was back up and running all attacks were carried out using long range weapons from Iranian airspace.
Israel got absolutely hammered during this 12 day war which is why they’ve clamped down so hard on reporting of damage, even imprisoning people for social media posts, the damage is estimated at acting half a trillion dollars.
Even the US intelligence services admit there was no damage to the Iranian nuclear program. The whole thing was a shit show from start to finish

Yep, there certainly is....

Even the US intelligence services admit there was no damage to the Iranian nuclear program.

No they don't.

The Pentagon briefing earlier was the most detailed assessment so far from the US government on the strikes.
Hegseth said Iran's nuclear capabilities had been "obliterated" and quoted a few different organisations to back this up - including the UN nuclear watchdog who said the strikes caused "enormous damage" to Iran's nuclear sites, and Iran's foreign minister saying they'd been "badly damaged".

Hegseth says US strikes on Iran were 'historically successful' after ayatollah downplays impact

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth is giving an update at the Pentagon - earlier, Iran claimed it gave the US a "heavy slap".

ssd · 27/06/2025 08:48

You are clutching at straws there @Twiglets1 , looking to Pete Hegseth for facts. Do you believe what Trump's foot soldiers say?!?

notimagain · 27/06/2025 09:22

Hegseth isn't the most reliable but OTOH anyone asserting "cyber" 🙄was used to turn off Iranian air defence for ten hours, but that the Iranians somehow got their Air Defence system "back up and running" probably isn't the most most reliable source either.

If only women were in charge I don’t think the world would like this. All these old men who will die soon anyway and want to feed their ego and create a “legacy”.

Well he would, wouldn’t he?!

Dangermoo · 27/06/2025 09:39

What is it with this incessant need to believe what oppressive regimes say? Do I take the word of those who believe I'm a second class citizen, just for being a woman? Do I heck.

Enormous Damage is very different to Obliterated. It’s impossible to know without inspection.

Exactly… talk about unreliable narrators.

Their ideology is abhorrent to me and should be to any Westerner so no, I don’t tend to believe the rubbish they spout.

Like the Ayatollah now saying Iran gave the US a slap or some such rubbish.

I do agree the damage is likely to be somewhere between enormous damage and obliteration.

What is very unlikely is “no damage” which is what the post I was replying to said.

I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them but I'm glad I am on that side of the fence. Forewarned is forearmed. Oh, but of course, Iran wants nukes for "peaceful" reasons!

She’s just one (horrible) woman though.

I agree with @LottieLovehandle that overall the world would be better if women were in charge.

Most of us are used to making compromises- these narcissistic male leaders aren’t!

Margaret Thatcher, Priti Patel, Suella Braverman, Liz Truss ….. 😁

Margaret Thatcher, Priti Patel, Suella Braverman, Liz Truss ….. 😁

What about them? I prefer to lend solidarity to strong women, who have to navigate in a man's world. They have enough infighting from men.
