Freedom Flotilla

Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

The tracker is here but is in and out of action.
https://freedomflotilla.org/ffc-tracker/

More details here, although the latest detour is not covered in the article.

Are we allowed to be amused mildly surprised at the idea of her being given a nobel prize?

I assumed you were an adult so surely by now you have worked out what is and isn't appropriate

SharonEllis · 09/06/2025 14:26

You know what? You've got a point. They are the greatest heroes since the unknown protester in Tianamen Square. Since Ahoo Daryei. Hell, since the hundreds of Iranian women killed and blinded by Iranian security forces, whose names we will never know. Yes lets give them all the Nobel peace prize !

If that's what you think Sharon.

Fluffyholeysocks · 09/06/2025 14:31

I'm pleased it's all turned out to be such a non event. Glad that no ones injured, glad that the protestors haven't got themselves into difficulty and glad the IDF treated them respectfully. No need for anymore publicity.

I completely disagree that Israeli Government got “so worked up” over the flotilla. They stated that they would not be permitted to dock, and followed through on it.

On the subject of people getting “so worked up”, have you read some of the comments on this thread and elsewhere? “Israel are attacking them!” “They are torturing them!” “They have taken them hostage!” “This is a war crime!” People getting themselves so worked up, I can sense the disappointment that Israel didn’t attack the flotilla.

Quite agree. All this crap about “ risking their lives” as if they were ever at risk from Israel.

Once again there is more than a whiff of anti semitism on here.

ArtTheClown · 09/06/2025 14:48

None of what you said warrants mocking her looks or behaviour, when is that ever ok? If you can't make a point without resorting to mocking someone shame on you.

Hey, I'm not mocking her. But the public and social media are harsh af, that's the reality.

As is the fragrant Greta...

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 09/06/2025 14:58

I’m interested to hear about other war zones Greta has personally tried to deliver aid to.. I mean in Ukraine she seemed more interested in the damage to the enchant children dying

Twiglets1 · 09/06/2025 15:00

BBC: "Yacht's meagre cargo will be sent to Gaza", Israeli government says

Israeli government spokesman David Mencer has given a press conference where he referred to the flotilla.

He says the Israeli forces towing the yacht have given the 12 activists on board plenty to eat and drink - and adds that the group will be returned home in a short time.

"On the subject of aid, the yacht had a meagre cargo but of course it will be sent into Gaza," he says.

"To poor Greta, we say, who is really feeding Gaza and who is feeding their own ego.

"When it comes to this flotilla, it wasn’t a flotilla, it was a selfie yacht. It was Instagram activism."

What an awful turn this thread has taken. Do people speak openly like this? Do you realise that the vast majority of people would think you’re sick? Are you surrounded by people that echo your disdain for humanitarians? I despair.

They gave them bottled water and sandwiches and what looked like brioches or buns! I've never seen Greta look so happy!

You should be happy at the turn this thread has taken!

It is a sign that all is well with the Freedom Flotilla. Despite the dark predictions, none of the activists has been killed, tortured or kidnapped. A few of them looked like they were going to decline the sandwiches, but that's about as nasty as things got.

Phew.

IloveSootyandSweep · 09/06/2025 15:15

Hopefully when they are home we might be able to find out why the stuff dropped and sprayed by the IDF on and around the boat did this.

They all looked fine in later videos Sooty&Sweep with no eye issues - I don't think it merits a full on investigation.

I’m not sure there’s a disdain for humanitarians so much as a disdain for people dressing up anti semitism in humanitarian clothing.

if Greta had a record of delivering aid to war torn areas that would be one thing - but she hasn’t. In the past she’s only cared about the environmental impact of war.

This David Mencer - proved time and time again to be lying shamelessly I wouldn't beleive him if he said the sun was shining on a cloudless summer's day at high noon.

David Mencer moved to Israel from London approximately five years ago, around 2020. He mentioned this relocation in a blog post for The Times of Israel, stating, "We moved here from London almost 5 years ago." In the same post, he expressed his satisfaction with the decision, saying, "My family chose to move to Israel and none of us have regretted it for even a nanosecond."

It’s not anti semitic to try to raise awareness that not near enough aid is getting into Gaza and there is a humanitarian crisis going on there.

Only Netanyahu and his Government etc are using this term.
That’s doesn’t make it so though …..

unless others have another definition that’s been accepted. Happy to see that

@Gaimbin A young autistic woman with her own agency
Yes she does but why does that mean it's ok to mock her looks and behaviour. The two aren't linked.

By all means criticise and disagree with her but lowering the argument to personal insults is pathetic

With regards to Greta Thunberg’s ability to cope with mockery and her approach to personal
insults, check out her succinct (and funny) response to Andrew Tate tweeting at her.

I don’t think she needs anyone to speak for her and it’s a bit patronising to suggest she’s somehow incapable of coping with what I’m quite sure she knew would be one outcome of her chosen publicity stunt, in this case an internet randomer speculating about her sandwich preferences.

Absolutely this. I have no respect whatsoever for pampered cos playing activists putting the lives of others at risk in a war zone. I have absolute respect for genuine humanitarians like the good people of the kibbutzim that were murdered on 7 October, despite their humanitarian activity, or people in the ground in Gaza, genuinely putting their lives at risk.

People, seriously, get a grip.

I found it hard to tell tbh although certainly the whites of their eyes didn’t look red.
Nevertheless I’m assuming countries will want to check everyone is OK and I would imagine try to work out what that substance was.

on another note I haven’t spotted if any have been released yet. Any news from our X followers ? here as it’s been 12 hours !

Just because she can cope with it doesn't make it right though does it?

in this case an internet randomer speculating about her sandwich preferences.
There were people criticising more than just her sandwich preferences, her facial expression and behaviour was jeered. No idea why adults get off on insulting other people's looks and behaviour.

Things I don't think he is lying about here:

Israeli forces towing the yacht have given the 12 activists on board plenty to eat and drink
The group will be returned home in a short time.
The yacht had a meagre cargo
It will be sent into Gaza
it wasn’t a flotilla, it was a yacht

Then he asked a question which others have wondered also:

To poor Greta, we say, who is really feeding Gaza and who is feeding their own ego.

So what if he moved to Israel from London.

How has he proven to lie shamelessly time and time again?

You seem to absolutely hate him which is odd.

Do you know him?

IloveSootyandSweep · 09/06/2025 15:40

I’d disagree with this ego take.

They are impassioned people who can see a humanitarian crisis happening in Gaza as most of the world do
I see them as very brave. Most people wouldn’t be able to do what they have done….. just by raising more awareness they have achieved their goal!

Ego, selfie boat etc are terms used by others especially Netanyahu to put down anyone they don’t agree with.
Tbf, we’ve heard worse.
