Thought this might be worth its own thread. The freedom flotilla The Madleen was getting close to Gaza but seems to have made a diversion, as it was the closest boat to answer a distress call. They seem to also have four Sudanese asylum seekers on board who were trying to escape the Libyan coast patrol.

The UK and France are asking Israel for its safe passage.

Yes you do seem to be forgetful here, you seem to have forgotten about the Berlin convention which basically reduced the Gaza territorial rights from 20 to 12 nautical miles.

Clearly as Gaza is essentially run by terrorists who want to destroy Israel it is very important that Israel controls this boarder for its own security

The team sounds nervous. And while I fully understand that, speaking as someone who has volunteered in humanitarian contexts: not the best headspace to be in. To be fair: takes a long time until you stop being afraid.

but It must be petrifying. I was looking up images of Israeli Navy boats and they are very intimidating. They’ve also had an eventful few days with drones overhead, and their communications being jammed. So I can completely understand the nerves and appreciate your point about it not being the best headspace.

I think so, the Jerusalem Post is reporting that the ship will reach Israeli water at approx 2am local time (about 48 minutes ago).

I'm listening to a live news report, being translated from Arabic Al Jazeera to English on a Twitter space.

IDF has just sprayed the ship with some sort of spray which irritating their eyes.

Next step, even more high profile promoters of peace, politicians etc and some brave journalists, go on helicopter to Gaza.

Either they land, and drop off some aid, and the journalists, or they are shot down and killed in front of the world's media.

They'd have to be very very brave, but if they were high profile enough it would put Israel in a very tricky situation.

On Twitter, it’s being reported that the IDF have stormed the boat.
