Did anyone see this last night? Heartbreaking and enraging in equal measure.

What are the connections of the boy working in the hospital to Hamas? His name is Zakaria. Please enlighten us- as I think in your bid to discredit the documentary you may have got some facts mixed up.
I can’t see that even David Collier makes this link!

I'm quite startled by the lack of compassion on this thread for the lives of children in a war zone. Its shocking how some posters don't even feel the need to pretend to care about the horrors that children in Gaza are experiencing.

A very serious one that the BBC should be able to rapidly refute if thete is no truth to it.

Absolutely and they could make the next documentary with children that are approved of here as I said most child amputatees of any modern conflict and 17000 orphans due to IDF bombing. There are plenty approved children there to choose from.

Kendodd · 19/02/2025 08:54

I agree with this. I suspect this child was only allowed to work in the hospital because of his family connections to Hamas, it's probably seen as the start of his Hamas training. I expect the lives of Gazan children without Hamas connections are a lot worse than this poor boys.

He said he hated Hamas and he wasn't really working there he was mostly getting in people's way. I think it was his way of dealing with the situation, getting involved and trying to be useful. He is a severely traumatised child and the paramedic said as much.

It’s children talking about their lives day to day.

How is that propaganda?

I think I saw a clip of this

The little boy who was helping the ambulances

The one who said before this current conflict they had a good life and everyone was happy? In the open air prison

SharonEllis · 19/02/2025 12:32

Liv999 · 19/02/2025 08:29

If Israel had let journalists into Gaza then there would be no "propaganda"

You can't believe that?

Same, it's quite upsetting that there is so little compassion for Palestinian children by some on this board.

Adropinthepond · 19/02/2025 12:46

I can't imagine how this thread would go if posters showed the same attitudes towards Israeli children, as Palestinian children were shown on here.
To those who did show sympathy and understanding, thank you 💖

Adropinthepond · 19/02/2025 12:50

Why isn't the Israeli government allowing foreign journalists into Gaza?

Adropinthepond · 19/02/2025 12:51

Is it because they don't want the world to see how Israel has turned Gaza into a 'demolition site'?

Well it was a topic of discussion on LBC this morning so it must have some credibility to it.

I've had people laugh at people's deaths because they were Palestinians dying. I've also had people openly state they don't care that"[my] people" are being killed (I'm not Palestinian myself but have friends and colleagues in Palestine as well as elsewhere in the region).

I'm sorry that you've experienced that, it's not acceptable.

Thank you. Sadly, these are the sorts of things that are widely considered ok to say, both online and in person. Anti-Muslim hate is at record levels and anti-Palestinian views are widespread.

Well naturally, they're supposed to be a "democratic" country, its not a good look for them with the whole world looking on..

Hitherzither · 19/02/2025 18:22

There is a lot of concern over the lack of transparency about the making of this documentary

https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-bbcs-gaza-documentary-omitted-something-astonishing/

Most of the news outlets are running this story.

It is a shame because it has discredited an opportunity for Palestinian children's voices to be heard.

All of those are from sources with a right-wing and virulently anti-Palestinian agenda.

So many news outlets are reporting it. It is now being talked about world wide

The point is that this use of a Hamas official's child, discredits the whole documentary. This is a shame because it shows very powerful experiences of children and the conflict.
It was unwise of the BBC.

Could you be clear please. Are you saying it's fine for terrorist linked documentaries to come out on the BBC? Or are you disagreeing with the news about the link? I.e you don't think there is one.

That's a strong claim. Could you back it up?

Hitherzither · 20/02/2025 11:52

Clearly not enough due diligence. I am surprised at the BBC. It has diminished the power of what was intended to be a moving documentary.

What people are objecting to is being lied to.

You're creating a false dichotomy.

You can have compassion for the children of Gaza and still not want to be lied to.

Hitherzither · 20/02/2025 18:11

Exactly @BaMamma

The BBC has diminished the documentary by it's poor production values. If there is even a whiff of key information being withheld, it lessens the impact of the stories. There is a lack of transparency. The BBC has apologised and the organisation is now adding a message at the start of the programme (iPlayer) explaining the family relationship of one of the children. The producers claimed not to know about this. It does mean that in the future they will have to be more careful about checking the provenance of those representing Palestinian civilians.
The documentary is very moving, particularly the little lad acting as a paramedic. It is a shame that the BBC's lack of due diligence will have tarnished the reputation of the programme so that it won't get the attention it deserves.
