Conflict in the Middle East

Are Hamas as thick as they are evil?!

Newbutoldfather · 09/02/2025 08:25

After seeing masked, uniformed well-fed Hamas soldiers humiliating emaciated hostages, does anyone even feel a shred of sympathy for them?

Can’t they even understand how bad this looks and what the consequences will be both for themselves and, more importantly, for the rest of the Palestinians?

It would be hard for them to be as thick as they are evil, because they are extremely evil, but I think they might have achieved it…

Some are detainees awaiting trial and some are convicted of various crimes including some serving sentences for murder and terrorism. None of them have the legal definition of hostages as noted by many countries around the world.

The people taken during the October 7th terrorism attack at the festival and kibbutz are all defined legally as hostages around the world, hence how it's reported by news outlets around the world. Its quite easy to understand really.

This.

This.

Not this at all. They are not awaiting trial because they have not been charged. They are just being detained. And in many cases, tortured and mistreated.

I have seen many blatant Hamas supporters on here over the past few months. I'm not sure why they choose MN as their platform amongst others I assume.

And many if them are imprisoned for terrorism and murder. 80 of them were released a week ago free to carry on murdering civilians. But you do you.

Quite a few posts expressing support for Hamas have been removed. If you'd have asked me if there would be support for Hamas on here before this weekend I would have said No, absolutely not, it's not possible. It's mindblowing.

Its been a pretty disgusting display over the last 24 hrs. Whats actually worse than the blatant terrorist flag waving (mostly now deleted) is the fact that the usual 'pro-Palestine' voices are nowhere to be seen. They assure us they hate Hamas but where are thet when open Hamas support is being paraded here? Not condemning these posts, that's for sure.

No, it's you who needs to educate yourself.

Have you seen the footage from 10/7? The actual official, documented footage shown to journalists and the like. I have seen some, not all of it. I couldn’t manage it. I was frightened I might never be able to remove those images from my head. How do you explain this? An aberration on the part of a gentle, desperate, historically oppressed people? How do you explain their neighbours leaving them to it? What should Israel have done afterwards, given the hostage situation? How do you explain the repeated refusals of peace deals even when they are hugely advantageous to the Palestinian people? Do you believe Israelis should just leave the region en masse and hand the vastly improved and hugely increased in value land and infrastructure straight to the Palestinian people? So many questions I know and I don’t expect a real answer to any of them,

Well said.

Hama has not murdered anywhere near as many civilians as Israel has. I do not support Hamas. But I also do not support the murderous activities of Israel. It is possible to hold both positions.

Every time a poster points something out that doesn't fit your narrative, you tell them to educate themselves. Everything I said about Israel saving the life of the Hamas leader can be backed up by a quick google search.

Absolutely, @bodydrain

Can’t get into that link. Probably just as well. The three Israeli hostages looked awful. Imagine not knowing that your wife and children were dead. I imagine the thought of them were all that kept Eli going all these months.

It also needs to be remembered that the people of Gaza created Hamas, elected it, supported it, hid it, sheltered it, filled its ranks and celebrated all of its atrocities.

The people of Israel are propping up the corrupt Netanyahu Goverment and the IDF. Does that mean they deserve to have been attacked by Hamas? No, of course it doesn’t. Any more than 17,000 innocent children deserve to have been murdered by the Israeli Government. They had no say in the forming of Hamas.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 09/02/2025 17:07

In answer to the question ... highly likely.

I imagine most people would be had they been “educated” in Gaza after generations of hatred on both sides.

I'm not sure that's true. Small parties are propping up Netanyahu. Its the problem with PR and coalition governments. There is a lot of opposition to Netanyahu.
Children never have a say in governments. Thats what parents are for.

LoremIpsumCici · 09/02/2025 17:13

“Definitely these handovers will further damage an already delicate ceasefire. Between their actions and the words of Trump and the Israeli government, it’s hard to see any hope for the next phase of the ceasefire.”

The actions of Israel have been problematic as well. During a ceasefire, you’re supposed to stop shooting at everyone- terrorist or civilian. Israel did not. They have been killing a handful of people in Gaza every day since the ceasefire started, including snipers shooting and killing toddlers.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/02/2025 17:18

Children never have a say in governments

Indeed @SharonEllis .They are always punished for the decisions of their governments, though.

A Peace and reconciliation process has to happen. It’s the only way to end the slaughter on both sides. Even if the parties have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the table and all international support withdrawn until agreement is reached.

If it can happen in Northern Ireland and South Africa, it can happen in Gaza, surely?
