Are Hamas as thick as they are evil?!

Newbutoldfather · 09/02/2025 08:25

After seeing masked, uniformed well-fed Hamas soldiers humiliating emaciated hostages, does anyone even feel a shred of sympathy for them?

Can’t they even understand how bad this looks and what the consequences will be both for themselves and, more importantly, for the rest of the Palestinians?

It would be hard for them to be as thick as they are evil, because they are extremely evil, but I think they might have achieved it…

And when it’s pointed out that Hamas hide behind civilians, and that they divert aid billions to military ends to kill Israelis, the unshakeable Hamas supporters just deny it. Because it doesn’t suit the bogus “genocide” narrative.

The marches that you call pro Israeli were marches to ask for the release of the hostages.

It certainly doesn’t come across like that on the marches I’ve seen..
A sea of placards condemning Israel ( sometimes in anti semitic terms)
Not one placard about the hostages !
Not one placard condemning Hamas !

An Iranian who did try to condemn Hamas was abused and needed protection.

This was my experience too.

You obviously have a very different experience of the marches than I have .
i don’t have double standards but I think you do.
. I’ve seen several pro Palestinian marches - none of them condemned Hamas.
I consider Hamas to have caused harm to Palestinians- and I would therefore expect people who are pro Palestine to condemn Hamas.

Newbutoldfather · 10/02/2025 18:27

And now Hamas have paused hostage releases on very spurious grounds.

Maybe they have been told to fatten up the next lot before release.

It is a total disgrace.

I don’t like the comparison of the Israeli government of the IDF with Hamas (to put it very mildly). I don’t like Netanyahu and some within the IDF are racist and unpleasant, but Israel is still, to use Musk’s analogy is an apple with some worms in it, whereas Hamas is just a big ball of worms. They are not even remotely equivalent.

The Palestinian marches were done to pressure our government to stop sending arms to Israel and to stop supporting the destruction of Gaza and its people by Israel. Given the fact that politicians cannot even mention Gaza or the war or indeed criticise Israel in any way without first condemning Hamas, why would the protesters be asking for the condemnation of Hamas from the government?

It's an interesting point. Maybe people have limited space on their signs, so tend to put their most urgent concerns on there. The other thing I notice is how divisive the issue is. There are very few who are really impartial or genuinely care about innocents on both sides.

I think your double standard is your apparent belief that Israel alone is the cause of Palestinian problems.

I didn’t see any pro Israel marches in London so can’t say too much about that. My understanding was that they were small affairs concerned with prayers for peace and the return of the hostages.
Perhaps other posters in here can confirm if my view is right.

If the Israel marches were as partisan as the pro Palestinian marches I saw in central London then I would definitely criticise them.

Hmm - you were the one who first accused me of double standards without knowing anything about me so you can get off your high horse 😉

Glad to hear the March asking for the release of the hostages was better supported than I realised. That’s good to know.

What exactly are my double standards that you say I have written about in the last few pages of this thread?
That’s such a very strange thing to say ..

I have acknowledged that I have not personally witnessed a pro Israeli march and have also said I would criticise them if they were as partisan and threatening as the pro Palestinian marches I have seen …

I really haven’t got anything else to say about this .

Peacecanbe · 10/02/2025 11:12

I agree. These are the most common views expressed in my experience.

Also agree

The marches were planned while Hamas was still on the rampage and before Israel had fired a shot in response.

So all the messages on the marches are aimed at our government? When the marchers shout 'Judaism yes, Zionism no' you're saying they're calling on our government to get rid of Israel?

Why are you being so aggressive? There is footage widely available of every pro-Palestinian march in London and many of the demos round the country. Show us the evidence of widespread criticism of Hamas at any of these marches.

What on earth are you wittering on about?
I have personally witnessed the marches … and I find people with covered faces threatening. I’m allowed to have a view.
I saw the video of the Iranian guy - it was shared in mumsnet .
I saw coverage of the Israeli march which indicated it was focused on the hostages.
If the Israeli marches had people with covered faces and Islamaphobic posters ( in the same way as the pro Palestinian marches had anti semitic posters) I would obviously condemn them .
