The Palestinians are NOT hostages! As has been stated as infinitum on this thread, which is about Israeli hostages. Feel free to start your own thread about Palestinian prisoners.

Many are children and women held without trial and despite you writing in capslock you can’t change the fact that many many people view them as hostages !!!!

This 100%.

It is just indicative of how much more value Israel places on one of its citizens than on a Palestinian life. This flip side of releasing more of them for one Israeli is that many more more Palestinians have to die as appropriate justice( or revenge?) for one murdered Israeli

I think the releasing of many Palestinian detainees in exchange for each individual Israeli hostage is completely in keeping with what I would expect given that view. I don't say this as particular criticism , Israel is a tiny country surrounded by enemies, so of course they value each of their citizens much much much more highly than a Palestinian life . Whether it is morally right to do so it pretty much irrelevant to them , it is a matter of survival.

I do also think it is completely to be expected that Israeli hostages might not have been fed well in Gaza. Notwithstanding all the comments about "well fed Hamas terrorists" I am pretty certain the vast majority of Palestinians in Gaza are close to starving at the moment . Torture and rape is another matter altogether and horrendous to think about

I think all of the released detainees (hostages or otherwise) look in terrible condition . I feel for all of them

Would you have an appetite if you were being held hostage in a war zone, had witnessed friends and family be killed and had no idea of the fate of others? It’s not surprising they don’t look healthy and well, they will be deeply traumatised and will have been sick with anxiety every day they were held in Gaza. Plus we know there have been food shortages in Gaza, people have been literally dying of malnutrition. Different areas of Gaza have been affected by the food shortages differently, some areas have had better food supplies than others. The terrorists filmed releasing the hostages were probably not the ones holding them for the last 16 months, if you look on social media you can find plenty of footage of emaciated Palestinians.

I’m not justifying the images of the hostages or saying they haven’t been starved/ tortured, we just don’t know yet and it’s reasonable to think the people who held them captive didn’t treat them well, but equally you can’t compare them with the terrorists hamas chose to be the face of the handover with the hostages and say that because these terrorists look well and the hostages don’t food and morale must be plentiful in Gaza and the only reason the hostages haven’t been laying into feasts every night is because their fat captives have withheld it from them whilst enjoying it themselves.

Edited

Is this a parody? They look like they’ve come out of concentration camps, not merely been put off their food by being held captive for over a year.

The virtue-signalling, morally bankrupt comments on here defending the actions of terrorists are disgusting.

Where are the babies and their mother? They should have been released 1st !

Tragically, the IDF reported in November 2023 that Hamas had informed them they had been killed by bombs. At the time the IDF said they were investigating.

@ViolaPlains I agree with you, how did we get to this. When people see the terrorists next to hostages

Oh God. We've entered a parallel universe where facts don't matter, and opinion holds as much weight as truth.

You sure you want to be a part of that?

I mean it’s not surprising they look like they’ve come out of a concentration camp, Gaza has been a war zone surrounded by fences, borders closed, very little food getting in, no way to escape, huge swathes of the infrastructure destroyed and constant bombing and missile attacks. That’s what I’m saying, it’s not surprising the hostages look half starved, people have been dying of starvation and malnutrition in Gaza, many areas have been without food and other basics, most people are displaced and living in tents, most hospitals have been bombed and those that remain are without basic supplies. Surely you’ve seen the images of the mass destruction of Gaza and the living conditions for people, did you think the hostages were being held in some magical idyllic part of the country which wasn’t under siege? Add to the huge amount of trauma they must have suffered to the fact they have been living in a war zone and you can’t expect they would look like their ‘before’ photos.

They were being held my members of Hamas who look hale, hearty, fit and in some cases chubby.

The people holding them had no restrictions on access to food so I'm not sure what point your making?

I doubt the members of Hamas who were shown releasing them are the same people who were holding them, Hamas wants to make it look like they are still strong so of course for the televised release of the hostages they will have chosen their fittest and strongest members to be their face. The hostages have been held all over Gaza, they haven’t all been held together and they may not have been held in areas of the country where there was a good food supply. I’m not saying they haven’t been intentionally starved or tortured, it’s certainly possible or maybe even likely, but there have also been plenty of civilians dying of malnutrition in Gaza and it’s a lie to say that food has been plentiful, food has been scarce for many and will have needed to be rationed. Yes, it’s awful that Hamas have clearly managed to find enough food for themselves whilst civilian children have died of nutrition and I’m not justifying that in any way, but you can’t assume that those filmed releasing them were those holding them or that the captors had a huge ration of food to share with the hostages. Of course it’s possible, but let’s at least wait to hear the hostages tell their stories before trying to write them for them.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 08/02/2025 10:58

What do you expect? Israel won't allow food into Gaza and everyone has been starving. The navel gazing is astounding.

Hamas are not starving and parading around in their smart unused uniforms, no longer in civilian clothing. Cowards strutting around.

AlteredStater · 08/02/2025 20:07

I never usually post on threads here but honestly, have to let this out. Hamas are so vile, so inhumane, I don't see how anyone in their right mind can support them. Israel have been supplying food to Gaza all along but Hamas take it and ration it out. However their people don't starve. I suspect all the Palestinians there have to support Hamas whether they like it or not, or else they'd be killed. Imagine putting all your citizens at risk by putting military equipment and bombs in storage in thousands of tunnels under people's houses, hospitals and so on. It's disgusting. They don't care one iota for their own people, all they care about is eliminating Israel and they won't stop till they do. Ditto Hezbollah.

It's plain as day those poor Israeli hostages have been mistreated and starved whilst everyone else is at least adequately fed.

Israel has ended up releasing hundreds of actual criminals just to get those few hostages back (and however many dead ones are left, poor things. I can't even imagine how their families are coping).

I must apologise @Fishandchipsareyum Today 11:04

Last week I read that Yarden Bibas had been told his family was dead; and I had read The Times of Israel 2023 saying the iDF had been told by Hamas they had been killed.

But I have just read more that makes this seem not at all clear. This excerpt is from The Times of Israel yesterday:

In November 2023, Hamas claimed that Shiri and the two boys had been killed in captivity. Israel has not confirmed the claim but has expressed “grave concern” for their fate. Though the three are set for release under the current ceasefire, Hamas has so far refused Israeli demands to comment on their status.

“Sadly, my family hasn’t returned to me yet. They are still there. My light is still there, and as long as they’re there, everything here is dark. Thanks to you, I was brought back — help me bring the light back to my life,” he said.

Pray they may yet come back.

Hamas are vile and crawling out of the woodwork well fed and sparkling fresh now there is a ceasefire wearing their uniform. Cowardly, vile, scum. They have no care or interest in the betterment of ordinary Palestinian people.
