There is not much information about who the people are that are being released by Israel after the ceasefire

Found info from a few of them on todays TG.

Ahmad Khsha, 18, who was arrested in January 2024 in Jenin. “They arrested me because my brother died during a shootout in Jenin. After he died, they arrested me. They raided our cells on Saturday before releasing us and threw teargas at us. They tortured us in the cell, every day. They also tortured and mistreated the women.”

Osama Shadeh, who was waiting to be reunited with his 17-year-old daughter Aseel, said: “It’s hard to describe the emotion we’re feeling at this mome

“My daughter was arrested on 7 November 2024 when she was protesting against the killing of Palestinian children in Gaza. She was waving a Palestinian flag. Israeli soldiers shot her in the foot and handcuffed her. They accused her of trying to stab the soldiers. The fact that she is being released now means that Israel knew that my daughter had done nothing wrong. Yet they kept a minor in jail for over a year.”

from bbc

According to the Reuters news agency, most of the people released today were recently detained and not tried or convicted.

I’m glad these 2 people have been released

There are several other journalists / social media commentators among the group. Reuters says that most were not tried or convicted of any crimes.

Terrible. Mumsnet posters constantly saying they're all terrorists is very upsetting.

💐 It's been like being on a National Front/ Tommy Robinson forum these last few days. Extremely unpleasant, openly supremacist and racist posts galore. Absolutely no shame or self awareness.

The one thing that the last 15 months has exposed is exactly the types of people and gaslighting that the Palestinians have had to deal with for the last 80 years.

Sending you love, try and keep your head up. It's a deliberate cruelty, that says more about the people saying it.

I haven't seen much about the detainees released yesterday. I saw a couple of young boys released, last night. My god, they were so thin, their faces so drawn, heads shaved. No idea who they were, but it was shocking to see their appearance.

“I left hell and now I’m in heaven. We’re all out of hell. They used to violate us, beat us, fire tear gas towards us...There’s no food, no sweets, no salt,”

From a 19 year old, who would have been either 17 or 18 when he was initially detained.

So much hatred towards Palestinians on this forum, so much racism, so much Islamaphobia. It's depressing and upsetting.

😥The testimony I'm hearing is harrowing, may they get justice.

Thank you for the full quote. It was referenced on another thread but of course the first bit was omitted from it.

We've hardly been told a thing about the Palestinians released from jail.

Its a disgrace.

Martymcfly24 · 20/01/2025 22:15

Rula Hassanein was also released a journalist who was arrested and convicted in a military court for incitement due to her resharing posts on x about the conditions for Palestinians.

I watched her video where she was reunited with her baby daughter who you could see in the video did not remember her.

stormy4319trevor · 20/01/2025 22:18

@Scirocco You could see in the boy's faces that terrible things had happened to them. It's a blessing they can be with their families and have a little happiness.

Aren't they all terrorists with a long list of victims they have murdered?

@Pebblesonthebeach40 @BakedAlaska12 Assuming their convictions are sound, I am personally disappointed to see these names on the list as there are thousands of people still held without trial or for minor / trumped-up changes which have kept them in prison for years (plus many held since 7/10 who are not and have never been combatants). I don't think releasing this small number of people convicted of violent acts is likely to promote the peace process and undermines the fact that the vast majority being released are certainly not terrorists (or indeed many have committed no crime).

However, I hope those who condemn this also condemn the fact that violence from Israeli settlers is very rarely (never?) appropriately punished, with people quite literally getting away with murder. This, along with crimes committed by some members of the IDF also need to be addressed if both sides are going to move forward.

I agree with your comments. A large number of detainees from.the not charged, but it appears the next group will be higher profile prisoners serving life terms or very long terms. That won't help peace imo in the long term.

I also agree with your comments on settler violence and crime committed by some members of the idf, also not acceptable.

One of the most prominent Palestiniansbeing released on Saturday is aid worker Mohammed el-Halabi, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison in a high-profile case that drew criticism from rights groups, reports the Associated Press (AP).

El-Halabi had worked as the Palestinian manager of the Gaza branch of World Vision, a leading Christian aid organisation. He was arrested in 2016 and accused of diverting tens of millions of dollars to Hamas. Both el-Halabi, 47, and World Vision vigorously denied the allegations and independent investigations found no proof of wrongdoing.

Rights groups say el-Halabi was denied a fair and transparent trial, as he and World Vision had no chance to review the evidence against them.

Some names of the released prisoners that Hamas are so determined to get back:

Fareeq Barikat, jailed for his role in a deadly suicide bombing at an Eilat bakery in 2007

Shadi Amouri, a Fatah operative who was convicted of involvement in a June 2002 suicide bombing on a bus near Megiddo in northern Israel which killed 17 Israelis, including 13 IDF soldiers, and injured over 40.

Absolutely abhorrent that to free the hostages so many violent criminals are being freed.

Bring them home 🎗️
