Suggest you also read the comments under the article.

What does the comments have to do ?
I post a link suggesting it’s Israel that might stop the deal. You don’t like it cuz it’s the guardian and it might not be as bias.
the other poster posts a similar article saying that it’s the Israeli government the one that might be cancelling the deal.

the comments can say whatever. Palestinians and Israelis deserve a ceasefire.

Tg
Israeli media is reporting that the remaining disputes over the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal have been resolved.
The Israeli cabinet is now expected to convene on Friday morning to ratify the deal, Axios is reporting, citing an Israeli official.

Yes just heard same on Irish radio 🙏

Igotjelly · 16/01/2025 17:12

Friday AM is a long way away in political terms. I worry that if they were serious they’d have convened this evening. It’s only just after 7pm, not very late in terms of something like this.

Yes you are right, I'm seeing reports the implementation of the deal is going to be delayed now because of this - white house not happy at all.

Hope he goes to hell

TG

Israel’s extremist national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has threatened to resign from prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government if the cabinet ratifies the ceasefire deal.
Ben-Gvir, in a press conference, said his Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Strength) party will leave the coalition if the deal, which he described as “reckless”, is approved.
He said his party would offer to rejoin the government if fighting in Gaza continued.

Igotjelly · 16/01/2025 20:50

Looks as though the centrist opposition have agreed to hold the govt together so that if the far right nutcases resign it shouldn’t push Netanyahu to abandon the deal to save his own skin.

CNN now reporting that the Security Cabinet won’t vote on it until Saturday, I can honestly see it all falling apart.

Do you know why it has been pushed to Saturday now? These delays are concerning when yesterday everyone was so hopeful.

In fairness I might have misread, I think the security cabinet will vote tomorrow and the wider cabinet on Saturday. Apologies!

Probably because Friday is a holy day. I really hope this ceasefire works, the same way I hope the war in Ukraine ends etc etc.

All this bloodshed over “peaceful” religious beliefs in 2025. As an atheist looking in in the situation I am absolutely astonished that in this day and age people can murder each other for their religious belief systems.

I am on X and can see interviews with Palestinian people who want what happened in October to happen every year, brutal rapes of women, then I see the devastation and blood shed that the IDF caused.

I am completely agnostic of “sides” but I tend to lead on the side of my government not being corrupt and a international known terrorist organisation.

Can anyone tell me why there hasn’t been a civil war in Palestine? or push back on the government that entices war?

Probably because 50% of the civilians are children and because they’re under occupation and restrictions so it’s not as easy to push back on Hamas

EasterIssland · 16/01/2025 21:53

Does someone know what the agreement is about the Philadelphi corridor?
i can read members of netanhayus party are threatening to resign if Israel abandons this corridor

Its even Israel's fault that the Palestinians haven't pushed back agsinst Hamas?! You couldn't make it up.

Stop the illegal occupation and maybe Israel will stop being blamed for many things.

That's not what the poster said. They are describing an accurate situation which could explain why it is difficult to push back. 50% are children and they are under an occupation.

Very revealing comment.

A sensible person will, of course, only blame Israel for the things they are responsible for.

Oodiks · 16/01/2025 22:05

Why would that stop the Israeli cabinet meeting?

stormy4319trevor · 16/01/2025 22:07

@SharonEllis Well, I don't think anyone blames Israel for 50% of Gaza being kids. I very much doubt they are able to take up arms (from where?) and defeat Hamas. The occupation and restrictions mean the population has been left entirely dependent on, and ruled by, the government of Hamas. If there was no blockade and no occupation, I suppose Gaza might have a more free, less insular society. That may lead to other political movements arising. But as things stand, Hamas has all the power.

Like an occupation and restrictions ? can I blame Israel for that?

if civilians live under restrictions probably they don’t have the tools/support to take the government out.

Hamas is the elected 'government' of Gaza since the last election held in 2006.

”elected” through five days of killing the Fatah local government during the 2007 Battle of Gaza
