No clue why the poster would think so.

Maybe they wrap things up early on Friday because of Shabbat

Shabbat starts at sunset & goes to sunset on saturday. Why on earth would that stop them meeting in the day on friday but not saturday?

🤷‍♀️

So, there's a smaller security cabinet meeting tomorrow and the full one on Saturday from what I just read.

EasterIssland · 17/01/2025 07:13

Times of Israel says deal has been signed by both parties. However, this has not been rectified by Israel’s government cabinet which will be done tomorrow. This delays the hostage release to Monday

toi>

Holding the full cabinet meeting on Saturday means the 24-hour grace period for petition filing won’t conclude until late Sunday, meaning the deal won’t come into place until Monday — a day after originally slated. The first three hostages who were supposed to be released on Sunday will have to wait an extra day.

Opponents of the deal must be given 24 hours to petition the High Court of Justice and a Friday afternoon meeting would not provide them enough time to do so because many of them are religious and observe the Sabbath.

Ah so its about petitioners not the cabinet.

Trump has said it better be done before his inauguration. Meanwhile the head of the settler movements were protesting against the deal and Trump yesterday. They said Trump promised to give Hamas hell, but he gave us hell instead.

That's cutting it close, Trumps inauguration is on Monday the 20th.
He was likely planning to have his Reagan "I released the hostages" moment.

EasterIssland · 17/01/2025 08:31

Guess with the time difference between Israel/ Palestine and USA there is time for the ceasefire to go ahead before Trumps inauguration

Yes, he's going to be really annoyed if he doesn't get his limelight to take the credit.

Agree, Israel is 2 hours ahead the UK, so 7 hours ahead of Washington.

There are games being played again by Netanyahu, probably to try and extract some sort of benefit.

Part of his government is threatening to resign if the ceasefire or if the philadelphi corridor is not under Israel control so guess trying to keep everyone happy without jeopardising being the PM

List of names of first 33 hostages that will be released. It doesn't mention the condition of the hostages so unfortunately some may have passed. The Bibas children are on the list and hopefully alive and well. The Israeli government believe most are alive thankfully. Seeing the list published has given more hope for the ceasefire.

  1. Liri Albag
  2. Itzhik Elgarat
  3. Karina Ariev
  4. Ohad Ben-Ami
  5. Ariel Bibas

My understanding is that deceased hostages’ bodies will be returned in the 3rd phase (if we ever get there) so hopefully that means the 33 listed are still alive.

kirinm · 17/01/2025 08:58

@EasterIssland and demonstrating that he doesn't really care about the hostages.

Whatsinanamehey · 17/01/2025 09:13

@Igotjelly that would be amazing if they are all alive, I wasn't sure as the article stated: The list is not in order of release, and does not indicate the condition of the hostages. Israel believes that most of the 33 are alive.

Israel believes that most of the 33 are alive.
I think this is hopeful they wouldn't state that unless they knew.
Amazing that they could all get home on Monday but all this to-ing on fro-ing as to when the deal will be finalised must be so stressful for the families.

As for Trump and his ego, no words. Typical narcissist making it all about him

Yes so there may well be ones that are dead, or in critical condition but fingers crossed. I dread to think what their mental health must be like after all this time.

And I’m not sure where to even start with the trauma inflicted on the Gazan population. It’s going to take generations to come to terms with what’s happened there, if ever, and there simply won’t be the capacity within its health system to cope.

Amazing that they could all get home on Monday - where did you see that please?
As far as I keep hearing (from multiple places but all unofficial sources) they are only releasing a few at a time with long breaks between (I saw somewhere 3 on the first day) and they won’t confirm who is alive, from the list of 33 to be released. It seems about as clear as mud at the moment 😔

According to i24 yesterday, in the draft agreement, the 33 hostages won't be released all together, but in stages over 42 days with just 3 on the first day.
No reason to rejoice just yet then :-(

The release will be over the six week period which is the first phase of the three phase deal. If everything goes well hopefully, then the rest released over the next phase.

I am cautiously optimistic for both sides.
