How many female children are Israel holding (and why?!!). I wonder if Israelis really have the ability to look at what they have done, let alone let the world see.

Netanyahu’s statement that Hamas are reneging on the deal already is very disheartening. They’ve delayed the Security Cabinet vote on the deal until they are content that the deal will be implemented as agreed. I don’t know who is genuinely in the wrong here but it feels like Netanyahu backpedaling slightly.

I just got a message from a senior Hamas leader in Doha who called me and he said: "We are committed to the ceasefire and what is agreed in the ceasefire and what is announced by the mediators."
When I asked him about the development this morning, on reports that Hamas is reneging elements of the deal, he says it's not true.
What we are getting from Doha this morning is that Hamas confirmed that they are committed to the ceasefire terms and to what is announced by the mediators.
Last night, I was talking to another Hamas source, who said the group was hoping to include one or two significant names from the people who served time in prison, especially two former Hamas military commanders in the West Bank, who are in Israeli prisons.

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 09:58

Netanyahu is being held hostage by his two right hand extremists, Ben Gvir and Smotrich.

Why should Israel release former Hamas commanders in exchange for innocent hostages. Why?? We all agree that Hamas are monsters and need to be destroyed. Why give them back military commanders to re-energise Hamas?

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 10:02

The US admitted yesterday that since the announcement of the deal in May, where they always blamed Hamas for the deal not going through it was many a time Netanyahu. They didn't openly say it at the time for fear Hamas would harden their stance if the public found out.

@SharonEllis

Because one of those in Jail, Barghouti, is the person most likely to unify Palestinians. For there to be any chance of achieving a Palestinian state, Palestinians must be united.
He wasn't actually Hamas, Al Aqsa, I think.

And as Blinken said, offer Palestinians hope and take away the cause of many of their grievances and there will no longer be any need for Hamas and its ilk.

Israel has killed atleast 32 Palestinians since the ceasefire announcement, many of them children.

Figure is now 73 which includes 20 children and 230 wounded.

Yes Israel still bombing Gaza. Must keep going until the last minute.

And Hamas is still firing rockets. Must keep going ...

Has there been any reports of Hamas rocket fire since the ceasefire deal was announced?

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 11:19

Because this is the only thing I have seen

"We've just had an update from the Israel Defense Forces, which says a report of a rocket falling on Israel from Gaza was a "false identification".
Previously the IDF had said the sirens which sounded in the Nir Am area - just to the north of the Gaza strip - were over a rocket that had fallen on an open area and the incident was "under review".

Meanwhile Israel have murdered a further 20 Palestinian children since the announcement.

Igotjelly · 16/01/2025 11:26

I don’t condone it but unfortunately the ceasefire isn’t yet in place and it’s very common for violence to continue to the last minute.

They are bombing houses and entire residential blocks! just moments after those same people felt some hope that the bloodshed would finally end.

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 11:46

Three residential blocks were bombed which is why there is such a high figure of dead young children.
A school housing displaced civilians has just been bombed.
Do Palestinian children not matter? Where is the condemnation for this unjustified aggression?

It's just so pointless isn't it? We are going to keep killing you up until this arbitrary time on this arbitrary date. Why? What would change for them if they let these children live. How have they made the world a better place by killing these children, how have they made Israel safer? It's sick.

Absolutely. It's devastating.

The usual genocidal suspects derailing things.

And 73 killed overnight. 230 injured. It's just shocking.

World might have celebrated it too early

reading this it sounds it’s more a Israel government issue than a Hamas issue

This is the Guardian so of course it's all Israel's fault. Even the BBC is (slightly) more even handed than the Guardian.

No thanks, from my experience in the past most are extremist racists.
