Where do you get your news from? Fro many Jews and Christian’s this land was held before any Muslim was even born

I think the point is that Hamas only ever governed Gaza, and not Palestine as a whole, since that includes the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

It would be great to get some independent witnesses in to assess the situation. I would imagine that it will take many years for the full scale of what has happened to be uncovered. For instance I remember seeing a video ages ago of the IDF shooting 2 men then just burying their bodies under sand and moving on. How many people have been treated this way? How long will it take to uncover all of the bodies from who knows where. Finding the cause of death of so many people after such a long time will surely be a huge effort. Taking testimonies from the tens of thousands of victims/witnesses would also be a huge undertaking. That said the sooner the start the sooner a picture of what really happened can be built.

You are right. It will take years and require access by the press and various experts. I'm not quite sure it will be allowed, but academics and good journalists certainly have the rigour to piece things together, so I hope it happens. There must be a large amount of footage, photography, testimony to examine. Also, a lot of ground and unmarked graves to excavate. It's terrible to think about, but accurate documentation is at least some gesture of respect for the dead.

Tag the wrong poster?
As I can't see how that relates to my comment about the current PA rule.

The only way there will be peace between ideal and Palestine is if hamas is not in charge. Whilst this is great news, of a ceasefire - it will happen again and Hamas will use the people of Palestine for it propaganda machine. They declare war on Israel and Israel thought back.

We need Hamas out of the picture and not some murderous terrorists in charge

The only way there will be peace is if Hamas is not in charge and Netanhayu and his extremist governments aren’t in charge either. We need them both out of the picture.

this war has achieved nothing. Israel is no more secure than on the 6th of October 2023

This guy.

tobeornottobe1 · 15/01/2025 23:38

@Oodiks not going to go round in circles with you. You know it and you are playing games. The land was taken from the indigenous Palestinians and given by the British to Jewish settlers fleeing the war. Since then there has been land grabs and illegal occupation. We all know it and ICJ has ruled it.

Are you actually unaware that Jews are indigenous to the area? I'm not going round in circles here, just trying to draw the line back from the current situation to how we got here.

All hostages that are women, children and men over 50 will be released in the first 6 weeks according to the details. Israel will release all Palestinian girls under 19 during that time.

Edited

Palestinian girls under 19 years! Oh my goodness how sad.

mids2019 · 16/01/2025 05:55

If Hamas fighters have been reformed then Israel will have to do everything to prevent another October 7th and that involves greater border security. We are going back to at least a geographical situation as of October 6th but with Palestinians harbouring even greater thoughts of revenge.

There will have to be so much work done to ensure lasting peace and with Hamas in charge that remains elusive. We seem to be facing 10 more years of Palestinian grievance with another October 7th in the long term planning.

Whatever one thinks of their methods I think you could argue Israel is significantly more secure now given how far Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran have been degraded.

Have they? Thought they did still exist and they continue attacking Israel up to today. Thsid leaders have been killed but they have most likely been replaced by now.

mollyfolk · 16/01/2025 07:04

The Israeli government have now accepted a deal that was on the table months ago? What have they have actually achieved ? The death of Sinwar is the only military strategic thing that comes to mind for me. They seem to have just caused widespread death, despair and destruction and risked the hostages lives. They said they wanted to "destroy hamas" they were told this was impossible and now they haven't actually done that. It's seems to me that the israeli government will be facing lots of serious questions from their own citizens.

The is great news for the hostages being released straight away. Hard to feel completely positive otherwise. Two thirds of buildings in Gaza have been bombed. Thousands of Palestinians will continue to die now from hunger and disease. And not even a foundation stone has been placed for real and lasting peace.

mollyfolk · 16/01/2025 07:17

I completely disagree. Violence begets violence. Not only has Israel lost international standing but you won't bomb your way to peace. Violence begets violence and the whole war was essentially a terrorist recruitment drive. A traumatised, hunger population driven to despair. And there doesn't seem to be the motivation to find a path for peace and prosperity for the Palestinian people.

Even the US are pointing out that hamas didn't shrink.

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 08:12

Israel has killed atleast 32 Palestinians since the ceasefire announcement, many of them children.

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 08:14

These figures are shocking, most Palestinians won't have a home to go to once the ceasefire takes place.

  • At least 1.9 million people displaced
  • 92% of housing units destroyed
  • 68% of road network destroyed or damaged
  • Zero fuel reserves to operate generators at hospitals
  • 88% of school buildings need rebuilding or major repairs

Forgive me for not jumping for joy. Only 33 of the hostages are being released in the first phase. My heart goes out to all their families waiting for so long to know if their loved ones are alive or dead and in what state they are in. There is a long way to go (6 weeks apparently) and the war can resume at any time aka as soon as Hamas rockets fly over Israel. For the sake of Israelis and Palestinians I hope the ceasefire does hold 🙏

Yes Israel still bombing Gaza. Must keep going until the last minute.

Igotjelly · 16/01/2025 08:30

EasterIssland · 16/01/2025 07:01

The ideology still exists and that can never be tackled with military action obviously but their weapons stocks are massively depleted (as is the case with Hezbollah) and their backer in Iran has been shown to be a paper tiger.

I don’t for one second condone the atrocities that I agree have clearly been committed against the Palestinian civilian population but that doesn’t mean the military capability of Hamas and Hezbollah hasn’t been reduced significantly. Yes rockets are still being fired but far less of them and that’s largely because the stocks simply no longer exist in the quantities that they did.

whereaw · 16/01/2025 08:35

I pray the last hostages (if any remain) are released.

It's a shame Hamas weren't wiped out and used innocent people in their game of terror. They are still there, will grow and will want revenge- not just on Israel. By not losing they have won.

tobeornottobe1 · 16/01/2025 08:40

More than 50 Palestinians murdered after the ceasefire agreement, mostly children? Why?? Because this is not about retrieving hostages this is about genocide & "flattening Gaza" as quoted by extremists that run Israeli parliament

Igotjelly · 16/01/2025 08:44

Netanyahu’s statement that Hamas are reneging on the deal already is very disheartening. They’ve delayed the Security Cabinet vote on the deal until they are content that the deal will be implemented as agreed. I don’t know who is genuinely in the wrong here but it feels like Netanyahu backpedaling slightly.

This could also be another reason

"The report adds that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not convene the cabinet until Religious Zionism chair Bezalel Smotrich gives him an answer as to whether or not his party will resign in protest."

Whatsinanamehey · 16/01/2025 08:53

I don't think Netanyahu ever wanted to accept the deal, he was pressured into it and will look for any reason to back out.

I’m not sure Netanyahu personally cares about anything other than maintaining power and avoiding jail, and he needs the far right extremists to enable him to do that.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/01/2025 09:00

How utterly appalling they are for continuing to bomb today. Shocking behaviour from an utterly deplorable government.
