Three hostages being escorted by IDF back to Israel

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Amazing!!

Growlybear83 · 19/01/2025 15:58

I'm just watching Jo Biden - I think he sounds very odd and his speech is much more slurred than usual, or is it just me?

I suspect he's exhausted.

mollyfolk · 19/01/2025 16:26

Terrific news on the hostages. Flowers

Yes I really think Biden is quite ill.

90 Palestinian women and children have been released from Ofer prison into the care of the Red Cross - completing the other half of the exchange agreement

So pleased that Israelis and Palestinians have been released.

Scirocco · 19/01/2025 16:36

Alhamdulillah.

ssd · 19/01/2025 18:01

We are being told the names of the released hostages going back to their families and how they are. Absolutely nothing mentioned of the 90 freed Palestinians going back to homes reduced to rubble. They probably aren't allowed to celebrate their release incase they are arrested again.

I think they will be released later, so there should be some mention in news of them tonight?

There seems to be some delay in boarding the buses to leave the prison

Variously reported as due to settlers demonstrating outside and some being arrested, huge crowds of prisoner relatives, Red Cross still IDing those to be released

Was probably a bit premature earlier. Sorry

I've just read an article that said that the Israel prison service has raided the homes of prisoners due to be released

I find it hard to understand why they are so utterly horrendous. Palestinians are not allowed to celebrate the return of their family.

It is utterly disgusting!

EasterIssland · 19/01/2025 18:40

Israel says it will prevent ‘public displays of joy’ by families when Palestinians are released as part of Gaza ceasefire

They raided our house, and seized flags and symbols associated with Palestine,” said her mother, Amal.

Why??

the ceasefire it won’t last long

Whatsinanamehey · 19/01/2025 18:45

Settlers have also torched and caused an explosion to Palestinian homes. An 86 year old Palestinian man trapped in the fire was thankfully rescued and rushed to hospital.

Optics I suppose. I assume the government are getting a lot of internal criticism. Looks worse for them if there are images of Palestinians celebrating a "win"

stormy4319trevor · 19/01/2025 21:25

Have the Palestinian detainees been released yet?

Have the Palestinian detainees been released yet?

Doesn’t sound like it according to bbc

stormy4319trevor · 19/01/2025 21:29

@EasterIssland Thank you. It must be nearly midnight there, so it should be soon, I suppose.

Whatsinanamehey · 19/01/2025 21:32

Have the Palestinian detainees been released yet?

I was wondering this too. Are they going to release them in the middle of the night?

Scirocco · 19/01/2025 21:33

Still waiting.

stormy4319trevor · 19/01/2025 21:33

Isn't that breaking the agreement @Whatsinanamehey ? I thought it should be today i.e. by midnight

Whatsinanamehey · 19/01/2025 21:35

Should be soon then. Their families are still waiting, some have had teargas fired at them by the IDF.

From the BBC

"Amid an atmosphere of excitement and nervous anticipation Diash Dara was waiting for her sister Hadil.
The 32-year-old university administrative worker has been detained without charge for seven months."

There's many being released today after being imprisoned without even any charges.

Igotjelly · 19/01/2025 21:58

Seems they’re being checked over by the Red Cross still.

Efacsen · 19/01/2025 22:00

Al Jazeera are reporting that the delay is due to the Red Cross still assessing and IDing the detainees - ?so doesn't sound like a sinister reason

Whatsinanamehey · 19/01/2025 23:36

I'm seeing that they have been released.

Those released today include 69 women — including one minor — eight male minors, and 12 men sentenced for relatively minor offenses
