Mysteriously, so many of these Palestinians that were held 'legally' have died during their detention. Some others were released after clear signs of torture.
And the rest have been kept without any access to legal aid or representation.

Mysteriously many of the Israeli hostages have died during their incarceration, without any access to the Red Cross, legal aid or representation.

Because Israel and Gaza weren't at war then?

Hmm, seems there is widespread confusion about that then, as Israel seemed to believe they were at war:

“Oron Shaul was killed during the 2014 Gaza war, known in Israel as Operation Protective Edge. Seven soldiers were killed in a deadly incident in Gaza City’s Shejaiya neighborhood, including Shaul, whose body was dragged away from the scene by Hamas operatives.” (Times of Israel)

Probably as a result of continuous Israeli bombing.

Yes, and they were taken by a terrorist organisation. It was and is horrific and evil, We know this.

But when Palestine hostages (or prisoners of war if that term makes you feel better) die during their incarceration then it is okay because…. ? Why? Because they “might be Hamas”, is that why it’s okay?

It’s not a race to the bottom.

Absolutely.

And deliberate starvation

The last hostages rescued alive a few months ago had lost a lot of weight ?20kg

Preparations for hostages to be released in the next few weeks include re-feeding programmes

As have the whole population of Gaza. It is unacceptable to starve anyone, whether they are Israeli or Palestinian. Do we agree on that?

mollyfolk · 19/01/2025 13:38

@LetThereBeLove

You do realise that people can think that holding the hostages is wrong (clearly a war crime) AND the detention of thousands of Palestinians without charge or trial is wrong. (Not to mention that the conviction rate of Palestinians in military court is 99%) this has been going on years not just during this war.

It's possible to hold those two opinions at the same time. I'm not reading anything here that suggests anyone is championing Hamas.

ssd · 19/01/2025 13:30

Probably as a result of continuous Israeli bombing.

Don't forget deliberate starvation/ withdrawing of the basics for life and so on.
Some don't seem to understand that this would affect the hostages too.

TonysPony · 19/01/2025 13:21

What is the “specific thing” that differentiates a hostage from a prisoner of war?

The IDF solider whose body has just been retrieved ( detained during the 2014 war) was described by the Israelis as a “hostage”. Why not a “prisoner of war”, since that is so normal and acceptable during a war?

Edited

All clearly defined under international law & easy to look up.

They didn't die mysteriously. They were mostl likely either murdered by Hamas, shot by the IDF or died through bombing.

It is horrific isn't it. When a terrorists organisation and the Israeli government operate in similar manners but get upset when called out on it.

Igotjelly · 19/01/2025 13:50

As I’ve always said there is fault on both sides, something those with antisemitic tendencies struggle to get their heads around apparently.

It really is depressing to see posters thinking they're caring being so callous towards other human beings in their desperation to blame Israel for everything.

If you take this comment as being directed at you, it probably is.

@Efacsen Yes. Some relief from this awful suffering. Very thankful for that.

A red Cross convoy has been seen entering the strip to pick up the hostages. Hopefully home soon.

This article lost me at "According to the IDF".

Reminds me of the Mandy Rice Davies quote "well he would say that, wouldn't he"

LetThereBeLove · 19/01/2025 12:50

That is not what was implied in my post. Interesting that you see it that way.
How do you think the hostages have been held, inhumane doesn't even begin to describe their experience.

I'm quite sure the hostages have endured horrific conditions too and I'm glad that for some at least that is due to end soon. I will listen to their stories if/when they feel ready to tell them and acknowledge the pain and suffering Hamas has put them through.

I don't think it's interesting at all that I saw it that way actually. Point me to the empathy you have shown to the Palestinians who have been tortured, starved, violently beaten and gang raped? It read to me like you were justifying the disgusting treatment these people have been put through. Perhaps you weren't and you would like to clear up how you feel about the conditions Israel have kept people under?

Whatsinanamehey · 19/01/2025 15:17

The three hostages have been handed over to the Red Cross.
