You hear posters say that the population of a country doesn't necessarily support the terrorist groups. They are not involved etc. Seems an incorrect statement.

Then you see a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. Hundreds and hundreds of people retuning to homes waving Hezbollah flags claiming victory over Israel and victory for the resistance. They haven't suddenly decided to support terrorists, they did all along.

Israel were at war with Hamas. Hezbollah just after the hamas attack of October 7th launched missiles into Israel to support hamas. One terrorist organisation supporting another whilst the people support them.

Over a year later finally a ceasefire. So the people of Lebanon, a country not occupied support their terrorist organisation Hezbollah with their 'resistance'. They are cheering a victory. Really deluded people. How can there be peace whilst they support terrorists. Their own government don't appear to run the show there and until Israel hit the Hezbollah leadership were weak with Hezbollah doing what they want.

Makes me realise more why many support Israel against people that cheer on terrorists.

I am not walking in there shoes. I dont know the dangers or threats they face from the people in power. I also willnt suffer the consequences. I dont judge people who are starving, trumatised and desperate while I'm sitting in my central heated house, eating my breakfast, watching my TV, whilst having access to education, health care, and transport.

Are you judging Israelis?

Are you judging Israelis?

We are talking about civilians waving a flag and cheering about a ceasefire.

Dulra · 29/11/2024 10:05

Ah yes easy. I also wish the Israelis would also stop supporting a government with war criminals but it hasn't seemed to damage their international support

Who has ever said its easy? Why do you persist with this straw man? In many ways peace is harder than war, anyone with any thought or care knows this. Israel's international support is damaged and the subject of great debate and very active diplomacy & negotiation - I wonder what news outlets you use or whether you actually speak to people who support Israel? There are many complexities in 'supportimg Israel'.

Because they put up lots of defence, ignoring attacks and missiles for months, 14 months, from hezbollah before they finally say ok enough and then launch a war. If hezbollah stopped they could end up in Lebanon like Jordan and Egypt having peace with Israel.

Again as much as you dislike it, this thread is about people supporting terrorist organisation Hezbollah. They could make a different choice.

This isn't true. Israel didn't 'ignore' anything for 14months, Israel has launched more than four times as many attacks on Lebanon as Hezbollah has on Israel, tallying at least 11,238 attacks. There is no need to spread misinformation to make your points.

We are talking about civilians who have no power in these matters.

You clearly have an agenda.

The low expectations from the west of people in middle east
What rubbish. It has nothing to do with low expectations. It is all to do who the West is propping up and who they aren't.

Well the West are hardly going to prop up terrorist organisations that are proxies of Iran are they 🙄 as much as some people sympathise the majority would NOT want terrorists organisations to be defeated.

EDITED to add the missed not

They have power and control in whom they praise on the streets... go watch them praise their terrorist masters. They could say nothing. They chose to praise hezbollah. Watch them. The joy. Its clear.

They aren't all little innocents. People treat them as if they have no say. Do better.

I wasn't talking about terrorist organisations I was talking about the Lebanese government/ army who some posters have said need to overthrow Hezbollah

as much as some people sympathise the majority would NOT want terrorists organisations to be defeated.
Not sure how you can claim that?

OctoberOctopus · 29/11/2024 10:37

No agenda. I just watched and listened to people cheering on, praising hezbollah and saw them and their hatred. I realised that they don't want peace. They picked hate.

The are innocent. They are civilians. They are human beings that have lived through war. They have experienced loss and terror that I hope none of us ever have to experience. You talk with hate in your heart. I dont have hate in my heart for anyone. I have compassion and love. May peace last for them.

I read your links, did you?

Of course I did. Obviously, your interpretation of the articles and mine are different as expected. Still facts are facts.
Ariel Sharon, nicknamed " The Bulldozer" and " The Butcher of Beirut", was found responsible for these massacres. To deny this is to rewrite history.

OctoberOctopus · 29/11/2024 10:46

I see I've made a typing error. The majority would want terrorists organisations to be defeated. Thanks for pointing it out.

Therefore the majority would want hezbollah to be defeated being a terrorist organisation, so seeing praise and support for said terrorist organisation by the people of Lebanon cheering waving and vocally praising hezbollah makes me look at them with less sympathy, they aren't innocent.

They talk with hate. The invasion by Israel into Lebanon would not have happened if hezbollah didn't keep launching attacks into Israel. They could have AVOIDED all this trauma and destruction and wouldn't have had to flee and now return if their hezbollah hadn't have intestified attacks against Israel following oct 7th.... not innocent if you support terrorists.

I despair of the Lebanese who support hezbollah in their campaign of hatred. Do they not want change? Are they happy to continue to praise hezbollah.

I look at Egypt and Jordan differently.

OP posts:
OctoberOctopus · 29/11/2024 10:55

People who support terrorists are not innocent. Their support enables hezbollah in their belief that they should keep attacking Israel. Not all adults are innocent. It won't end if they continue to support hezbollah

And this is what I mean about low expectations. People are capable of thinking ahead more than a few days and understanding the complexity of their situation.

Tell me you have never lived under a repressive regime without telling me. My family has.
It is easy to say that the people should overthrow their regime from the comfort of your home. People have tried and failed. Have you heard of the Arab spring?
Except for Tunisia, it failed.

10 Years Later, What Is the Legacy of the Arab Spring?

We asked SIS faculty what they believe the legacy of the Arab Spring is, ten years later.

Depends what you mean by innocent. Yes civilians are protected in wars because they are non-combatants. But many are not innocent of supporting terrorist organisations who are perpetrating war & terrorism. There needs to be acknowledgement of that in any analysis of what comes next. Just saying you have love in your heart isnt going to cut it with people who dont. Peace cant last without tough negotiation/actions.
And to say @OctoberOctopus has hate in her heart because she says things you don't agree with is unacceptable.

I have actually! And worked with refugees, some of whom remain friends, who have escaped repressive regimes, but continue to work in various ways with resistance.

SharonEllis · 29/11/2024 11:04

@Auvergne63 and I have NEVER said it was easy.

OctoberOctopus · 29/11/2024 11:11

It's not easy. Peace means sacrifice on both sides. Peace would be supported. Terrorist organisations funded by Iran as its proxies won't be (apart from by Iran, flag waving praising Lebanese whom we have clearly seen and heard and some apologists of terrorists).

Aim for peace. Be more Jordan. Be more Egypt etc etc. Find a better way.

Thank you for contributing. We'll see how things develop.

This, really hoping for peace. I have known several Lebanese in my life and they have always had a place in my heart.

Lalaloveya · 29/11/2024 11:15

All this talk of the west's low expectations is making me feel a little sick.

Some people here are denying an ongoing genocide because either Palestinians don't deserve human rights or because Israel can do whatever it likes.

Maybe if these posters didn't defend Israels actions up to an including genocide (with the notable exception of settler terrorism for reasons I don't understand) it would be less nauseating to read.

Be more egypt? Tell me you know nothing about Sisi without telling me you know nothing about Sisi.
