Hamas don’t want peace

A two day ceasefire was offered to them in return for four hostages but they declined. Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, said Hamas “once again refused to release even a limited number of hostages to secure a ceasefire and relief for the people of Gaza”.
Isreal has now offered a million dollars for each hostage and safe passage out of Gaza for their captors. Hamas have yet to respond.

I’m not justifying a genocide, that’s your own prejudice speaking.

I do have a particular interest in Israel. It is so important, given the history of genocide, persecution and exile against Jews, that they have their own homeland.

Given the voting, I’m not in the minority- you probably spend a lot of time in echo chambers.

Why? In the last 100 years no other ethnic group has been justified in displacing and indigenous population and taking that land for their own. Why should the Israelis be allowed to that?

I don't think this is true....borders are redrawn and people displaced quite regularly. Look at the former Yugoslavia and northern Cyprus....not identical situations obviously

Not even close to identical.

Please show an example similar to Israel - which has ended well.

The whole geographical landscape has changed over the last 150 years

Why is it only an issue if gaza is involved?

Because it was their homeland that they were exiled from in the first place ( the first of many). It’s clear that the best way to protect the Jewish people from the horrendous treatment they experienced for thousands of years was for them to have their own land.

It's absolutely not clear that Jews are safer in Israel than anywhere else.

It was never a uniquely Jewish region. We cannot turn the clock back. Where does that end?

You are justifying one genocide and ethnic cleansing based on another - for which the Palestinians are in no way responsible. That's incredibly hypocritical.

Who said it was only an issue when Gaza is involved?

Are you suggesting that genocide and ethnic cleansing is okay because it's happened before?

ALL genocide and ethnic cleansing is wrong. It's incumbent on all us to call it out.

So if we look back to the post war period - there were lots of borders being redrawn. Do you have issues with any other ones?

you jace only got to look at the continued anti semitism to see the value of Israel and how it offers safety.

What would you like to see happen to the Jews in Israel?

Daftasabroom · 16/11/2024 18:05

@Feelingathomenow I'd argue that the Israeli genocide of Palestinians is fueling antisemitism.

Feelingathomenow · 16/11/2024 12:37

It’s not whataboutism - you seem to be focused on the treatment of children, im merely trying to ascertain what you actively do for children who are suffering in other contexts. Do you expend the same amount of energy on other areas?

Why do you say I’m not concerned about children? I think that is rather baseless thrashing out isn’t it?

Im guessing from your recent posts you’re in America. What are you doing about the many child welfare related issues in your country?

Edited

I'm not focused on the treatment of children. I find the genocide, torture, deprivation of adults equally reprehensible. People used to agree that all children deserve protection, so writing 'children' instead of 'people' helps avoid destracting 'but they could be terrorists', that's all.

You seem to ignore my point that our government does it.
Our democratically selected government.

If you really want to know on what I spend my energy we could have a thread in chat.

@Feelingathomenow I'd argue that the Israeli genocide of Palestinians is fueling antisemitism.

Well that’s not surprising, Hamas would indeed be very please with your perspective as this was the intention of their attack last year.

I would argue that antisemitism is the reason for Israel’s reaction to the October 7 attacks.

When you say “our government” is that American or UK?

Both do. In different volumes, but both. I refere to 'our' as one of them.

These have both been covered either in this or other threads.

I don't think anyone would argue that Hamas are antisemitic.

I suspect the Israeli right are just as pleased with the Islamophobia stirred up by 7/10.

What do you think my perspective is?

Of course not, don't be so childish. There is no acceptable justification for antisemitism, anywhere, at any time. Or most other "isms" for that matter.

What's your justification for the genocide and ethnic cleansing?

That's not what is being said. The conversation was not about justification of anything, but of a cause or a contributing factor.
Emissions of greenhouse gases increase the world's temperature. But we don't say that the emissions is an acceptable justification of the heating of the Earth.

True. But there are a couple of Israeli apologist posters trying to misrepresent every other post as antisemitism.

It's terribly sad that deliberately attempting to score a few cheap points will only isolate Israelis further than they currently are.

Im obviously not justifying the horrendous actions in Gaza.
im just saying the situation in Gaza can’t be used to explain or excuse ill treatment of innocent Jews who live elsewhere. I thought you were implying the anti semitism is an inevitable consequence …
It’s not “childish” to question this - innocent Jews have been targeted and anti semitic behaviour is not an appropriate way to show anger over Gaza

The heating of the earth is an inevitable consequence of the emission of greenhouse gases.
An increase in anti semitic activity doesn’t have to be an inevitable response to what is happening in Gaza.

It doesn't have to be inevitable, it just happens to be so. Especially with such a prolonged unimaginable suffering AND with our government's support.

Conflicts just do that. 9/11 created sky-high levels of islamophobia.
Russian invasion of Ukraine lead to rise in russophobia. That's how humans work.
