"Am Yisrael Chai" is a Jewish solidarity anthem and widely used expression of Jewish people hood and an affirmation of the continuity of the Jewish people.

For those who don't know.

It's important today. Of all days.

Am Yisrael Chai.
The people of Israel live.

Thank you 👍🏼. I was responding to a pp who made an odd claim about the wiki definition. I wasn’t trying to claim the wiki definition is definitive

I realised that after I posted x

So sad today for the families of those who died, their loved ones who had their lives cut short by evil and for the hostages and their families.

I have disabled children and the terrible murders of Ruth Peretz and Noya Dan are terrible stories among so much dreadful loss on this day a year ago.

According to Wiki re its contemporary use - “The song and its core phrase widely became a defiant expression and affirmation of Jewish continuity, especially during times of war and heightened antisemitism.”

I missed this last night. I am not sure why MN deleted my post as it was an accurate summary, but to quote exactly this time, to avoid confusion, wiki says: "It is often used by the Jewish diaspora to express support and solidarity with Israel, such as during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war".

Wiki doesn't give the precise Hebrew translation which is The Nation of Israel Lives.

@SharonEllis I am missing the point too. Was my post not succinct enough?

IIRC, 'am' translates as 'people'.
'Am Yisrael' is generally used to mean 'the Jewish people'.

And the people.of Gaza?

Once they are rid of Hamas then they will celebrate their freedom and settle on a peace with Israel rather than wanting to annihilate every single Jew. Imagine a life in Gaza of peace and prosperity, wouldn´t it be wonderful?
