"Am Yisrael Chai" is a Jewish solidarity anthem and widely used expression of Jewish people hood and an affirmation of the continuity of the Jewish people.

For those who don't know.

It's important today. Of all days.

Am Yisrael Chai.
The people of Israel live.

But I responded to a particular post. I am having to sit on my hands about some of these responses. If you want this to be rememberance, I understand and as I said I have deleted my posts, or asked them to be. I think you should now focus on the this thread as rememberance and not as a chance to try to start arguments.

I am not trying to start an argument. That is quite the last thing I would want on a thread like this, out of respect for the Jewish people on here, and the circumstances of October 7th.
So I think it's best we leave it at that.

And the people.of Gaza?

Tell me, do you go to Palestinian marches with a banner of the hostages saying ‘bring them home now’ ? You know, being as you appear so keen to always remember the other side too?

Or is it only Jewish people who need to always have their suffering minimised and turned away from in favor of others?

So do tell, are you really a great humanitarian who always has to hold in mind both sides, or are you just an anti-Semite?

newtlover · 07/10/2024 20:07

I know its a bit late to suggest this, but I have placed some candles in my window

MrsMitford3 · 07/10/2024 17:07

This.

Yes, this.
Am Yisrael Chai.
I am not Jewish but I stand with you. 💔

stomachamelon · 07/10/2024 20:28

@gettheetothinehome thanks for the suggestion but I am not amending the title. It's there for a specific reason.

Am Yisrael Chai.
Thinking of my friends and family in Israel today and every day.
Bring the hostages home.

Thinking today of all the victims of that horrendous, unthinkable terrorist attack and of all the hostages taken, and their families and friends. 🕯️

Am Yisrael Chai

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
Psalm 122:6

Amen.

Yes, I am part Jewish. I think it might be helpful for you to amend the title and the opening post to say that this thread is just for remembrance.

I didn't start this thread. I see no reason for the OP to change the title. It is quite obvious what the thread is about and if you are part Jewish you would understand what Am Yisroel Chai signifies today.

gettheetothinehome · 07/10/2024 19:47

Well, clearly not. I have asked for my posts to be deleted.

Good.

According to Wiki re its contemporary use - “The song and its core phrase widely became a defiant expression and affirmation of Jewish continuity, especially during times of war and heightened antisemitism.”

Limesodaagain · 07/10/2024 21:37

I think showing solidarity with an affirmation of Jewish continuity is appropriate today .

LetThereBeLove · 07/10/2024 21:41

For those who don't know, as is evidenced by some posters, understandably if they are not Jewish, the Hebrew translation of Am Yisroel Chai is The People of Israel Live

Wiki is not a definitive answer as I have explained above with the Hebrew translation.

Thank you 👍🏼. I was responding to a pp who made an odd claim about the wiki definition. I wasn’t trying to claim the wiki definition is definitive

Stop what? Asking if remembering victims goes both ways?

Yes, you are completely disrespecting this day and those who wish to remember it’s victims. Do they mean nothing to you?
