Wow. I do wonder with some of the awful Israel bashing posts. Some appear to blame all Israeli people for the leadership yet little accountability for terrorist, even suggesting they have no choice 🙄
Christianity can also be criticised but not Islam. Don't mention that most of these problems are caused by Islamic extremists, which is true (not non extremists) and a growing problem in the middle east.

Yes … for some posters all the blame lies with Israel . It’s very hard to bring any balance into the discussion

quantumbutterfly · 26/09/2024 08:45

Not just the middle east. Many parts of
Africa too.
China has become very involved in Africa, they are notoriously ruthless in quelling dissent and if it hampers their objectives they will deal with it and ignore international censure.

My thoughts are with the hostages and their families. Those holding them need to let them go now.

Hi everyone. We apologise that our moderation on this board has fallen short in places. Our aim is always to be balanced and fair and take each report on its own merits, within the wider context of the discussion. In retrospect, we have been heavy-handed and inconsistent in some recent cases and we understand the confusion and frustration this may cause. We're reviewing what happened here and it will inform future decisions on the boards.

We'd also like to remind posters that Mumsnet's guiding principle is to allow people to express their opinions, so long as they are civil and within the boundaries of the law and common decency, even when those opinions are challenging or unpalatable to some others.

Thanks.

Thank you for your post.

Some posters are so full of hate for Israel and it shows over and over. Many posters don't bother posting, have completely left or stick to just one or two threads supporting the hostages. That's not right.

Totally. If terrorists capture, rape and kill people then any country would take action. When terrorists from another country fire rocket after rocket its not surprising they try to reduce the terrorist activity. Even targeted responses are not acceptable to some, Israel should just sit back and accept it. The US wouldn't do that, Russia wouldn't do that, which other country just sits and takes it 🤔 none.

YoYoYoYo12345 · 26/09/2024 10:55

Anyway, this thread is about support for hostages still being held almost a year after that dreadful attack.

We hope for their return and a ceasefire.

Thank you @StillHELDhostage4 for this important thread

Thank you I think we would be much happier if there was more consistency around deletions, and if there was an understanding of the impact of the weight of threads attacking Israel over & over again with no space for empathy with Israeli civilians.

LoremIpsumCici · 26/09/2024 18:14

I think where many of us differ is in the sort of action that should be taken and the priority of the lives of the hostages vs revenge killing Hamas terrorists.

To date, the temporary ceasefire released the most hostages alive and in good health. The months of bombardment and street fighting with ground troops has killed more hostages than it has rescued. It has also resulted in several hundred IDF troops losing their lives.

Negotiating a ceasefire is taking an action. It isn’t sitting back and doing nothing imho. Even if you don’t care about any Palestinian lives at all, a negotiated ceasefire & diplomatic solution is still the only action that saves lives instead of costing more lives.

So yes, it is my opinion that military force of any kind is not the way to fight terrorism. I’d rather treat terrorism as a law enforcement issue and use police forces to investigate, arrest, charge and then try terrorists in a civilian court system.

My opinion isn’t a unicorns and rainbows fluffy bunny naive peace activist opinion 🌼 . It is grounded in the lessons learned from the war on terrorism fought by the US decades ago and the sobering conclusion of the CIA that we lost that war and sowed the seeds for the terrorism we see now. PLO replaced with Hamas. IRG replaced with proxies like Hezbollah. Taliban replaced with ISIS and both are resurging as I type this. Fighting Hamas and Hezbollah with military force will only create their successors.

"365 days ago, Omri passed Roni over to me. 365 ago he was cuffed, and kidnapped in front of our eyes.

365 days ago Roni screamed “Daddy! I want my daddy!

Thinking of all the hostages and their families and friends.
Praying for their homecoming soon.

Thank you to @EllaDisenchanted and other posters who keep going on these threads.
I don’t post often but I think there are many of us who care deeply and send love, strength and support.
I keep in touch with my Israeli friends and spent time with them over the summer. There is so little that I can do as an individual apart from extend friendship and love.
Definitely not forgotten.

It is not all Israelis but this element of the government.

  • Five protesters were arrested at a demonstration calling for the release of the hostagesheld in Gaza near Netanyahu's office in Jerusalem. The protesters, who were blocking both entrances to the office, were holding up a sign that read "it's been a year, stop the abandonment" and chanted "No to a Kahanist government."
