Conflict in the Middle East

Boycotting Israeli products/services

1000 replies

the7Vabo · 18/06/2024 15:54

I’m trying my best to support the boycott. For those doing the same - what products/services are you using instead?

The hardest one for me has been giving up on going to Disney Paris next year. I had planned it as a joint birthday present, kids will be the perfect age. But I can’t stand in Disney with my kids knowing they support a regime killing kids.

Any good alternatives to Disney, or any other brand on the list?

@Sunshineonasameyday and I can guarantee you that the very vast majority of people attending the pro Palestinian marches in my country don't have an antisemitic bone in their body.

What they abhor is the murder, slaughter and destruction of an entire people. That's what the problem is... not the fact that these people are Jewish.

I'm actually so sick of this antisemitic accusation, most people couldn't care less what religion these people are... they are just devastated by the horrendous loss of life.

Are they equally devastated about the loss of life in Yemen?

Sunshineonasameyday · 18/06/2024 20:32

Polka83 · 18/06/2024 20:30

I think a lot of people shout antisemitism as a way of deflecting concerns about the Israel’s actions.

Not really. Read this thread for my views on the situation. Netanyahu isn't the leader Israel needs to forge peace in the region.

I am not denying anything, there was atrocities carried out that day.

But outside of the names on a list, can you point me to a reliable source that references these instances please?

You google if want to see terrorists killing the Thai citizen. You'll find it.

@sparkleowl honestly no idea what your kitchen comment is about

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 20:34

@Murica thank you for that, I will read it, I'm sure it's absolutely horrendous.

sparkleowl · 18/06/2024 20:34

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 20:26

@sparkleowl so no references then... cheers, great input you've had there

You know about it already, so does everyone who doesn’t live in a cave it’s been widely reported.
All this shouting for references is pathetic.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 18/06/2024 20:36

@HelpAGirlOut1234 I do hope you do. The eye witness testimony is heart wrenching. Social
media will have it that October 7th has been exaggerated and that is hugely disrespectful to the victims.

Noonecares245 · 18/06/2024 20:36

Sunshineonasameyday · 18/06/2024 20:27

Did I aim my comment to you personally? It was an observation I've made based on all the media coverage and pro-Palestine marches.

I have also made an observation: the supporters of Israel deny the mass killing/raping and imprisonment of the Palestinians people by the State of Israel and when challenged resort to name calling, accusations of antisemitism and make deliberate attempts to steer the conversation away from the topic and/or troll. Just like how you're doing.

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 20:36

@sparkleowl there has been a lot of propaganda during this conflict, and I prefer to refer to reliable sources for my information.

It was also claimed that Hamas beheaded 40 babies, which was found not to be true.

Excuse me for trying to educate myself by reading reliable news sources

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 18/06/2024 20:36

Warning

A lot of companies are conglomerates

There are a lot worse place than Israel IMO - china, Saudia Ariba, UAE, etc, etc

I've never boycotted anyone to date!!

So when challenged to provide irrefutable evidence this is the best you can come up with? I think we know who is living in the caves.

I've not steered the conversation in any direction other than the one the thread has naturally gone. Why are you strawmanning a civil and productive thread that is fairly and politely demonstrating both sides viewpoints?

https://palestineinadish.com/recipes/hummus/

@Polka83 no need to buy supermarket hummus - here's an easy recipe that can be customised to make any type of hummus you like. Another option, if you have any near you, is to ask in a local Middle Eastern or Asian food shop; these often stock smaller brands or even sell homemade versions. While I love homemade hummus, my actual favourite hummus is made by the owner of our local Syrian bakery.

I would say hopefully she's not using any Chinese made products in her home made hummus endeavours (transport to shop, fridge etc) but we've already established the Uighurs don't meet the threshold to give a fuck.

It's commendable to do that, many don't.

Do you, unequivocally, condemn the actions of state of Israel?

I condemn any actions that contravenes any human right. It's why I'm anti-Hamas and find being pro-Palestine an uncomfortable position to sit in.

And I will read the sources @Ratsoffasinkingsauage, thank you and I will read what you've posted. And I don't believe that most of the reports of Oct 7th have been exaggerated, I am absolutely aware of the horrific acts carried out and condemn them.

I also condemn the collective punishment and disproportionate response of the Israeli military towards the Gazan women and children that they have murdered.

What about the settlers actions in the West Bank?
Will Israel give back the occupied territories?

Israel seems to keeps voting in right wing governments. This has nothing - for me and probably most people - to do with Judaism.

Which other countries are you boycotting?

Sunshineonasameyday · 18/06/2024 20:47

It's not for me to say what Israel should or shouldn't do, that is for the peace brokers to determine. Israel is a politically conservative but socially liberal nation, it is unsurprising they vote in right wing governments while under siege they see it as the solution to the very real threat they face. Equally many condemn their government.

I counter your comment with if the Palestinian people want peace why aren't they rising up against Hamas? This war could be stopped and peace brokered if they wanted it, but they don't. They want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 20:47

@Sunshineonasameyday look at us almost being civil to one another!

Look, bottom line... I condemn Hamas' actions and I also condemn the Israeli government. No one is winning in this situation and the only losers here are the poor men, women and children who have been blown to bits and had nothing to do with this conflict.

And for the record... I'm very far from being an antisemite, I genuinely couldn't give a fuck what religion a person is as long as they just keep it to themselves and worship in their own peace.

That's terrible

And just as terrible as the thousands of innocent children the IDF have killed

fluffy90 · 18/06/2024 20:49

If you're boycotting Israek, I certainly hope you're boycotting China, at the very least, as well as the majority of other countries in the Middle East.
