Conflict in the Middle East

Boycotting Israeli products/services

the7Vabo · 18/06/2024 15:54

I’m trying my best to support the boycott. For those doing the same - what products/services are you using instead?

The hardest one for me has been giving up on going to Disney Paris next year. I had planned it as a joint birthday present, kids will be the perfect age. But I can’t stand in Disney with my kids knowing they support a regime killing kids.

Any good alternatives to Disney, or any other brand on the list?

Look, bottom line... I condemn Hamas' actions and I also condemn the Israeli government. No one is winning in this situation and the only losers here are the poor men, women and children who have been blown to bits and had nothing to do with this conflict.

On this we are agreed. Please do read up on the history of all the main players though and really understand what you're supporting and what you're condemning. Knowing the full political background of the area really does help understand why people take different stances in this debate.

customers most definitely can let their pharmacies know that they would like an alternative to Teva. People ask for specific brands all the time and as the pharmacy wants your custom they will listen.

I condemn any actions that contravenes any human right. It's why I'm anti-Hamas and find being pro-Palestine an uncomfortable position to sit in.

Edited

See what I said earlier about steering the conversation? Why is it so difficult for you to answer a simple question? I'll ask again:
Do you condemn the actions of State of Israel?

I have answered your question right there. I condemn any action that contravenes any human right. It's there in black and white.

Hamas are not representative of an oppressed people. Hamas are there to bring about islamic fundamentalism and eradicate Jews.

Exactly, that’s their entire mission.

Hope you're not writing this on your phone, OP. A lot of mobile technology was innovated in Israel.

And to the individual who remarked that Israel has its hand in a lot for a small company, you're right. It is disproportionately full of hardworking, highly intelligent people galvanised by generational trauma.

Sometimes I think you hate us 'cos you ain't us 😂

The arrogance is astounding 🙄
You think people 'hate' Israelis because they want to be Israeli??

I'm genuinely very well read on the history of the area, I'm a bit of a political anorak, but thank you.

fluffy90 · 18/06/2024 20:53

And what efforts are you making to join in the call for the release of the hostages?

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 20:54

And @Sunshineonasameyday, I would also like an answer to @Noonecares245 question

Do you condemn the actions for the Israeli military?

I'm not goading you, I am genuinely interested

No it isn't- read the question again. It's specifically about Israel - why is it so difficult for you to answer it without bringing other groups/entities in it?

So when challenged to provide irrefutable evidence this is the best you can come up with? I think we know who is living in the caves.

Even if it hadn't already been posted in the thread when you wrote this, and it had, the attack on the Thai victim is pretty high profile. It got played at the literal UN!

I'm pretty sure we're debating in the same language. The question is about Israel and Israel only. For a moment, leave all other entities/governments/groups out of this.

Do you condemn state of Israel? Simple Yes Or No answer.

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 20:58

@Sunshineonasameyday Okay, let's word the question differently.

Do you believe the actions of the Israeli government have been in contravention to the human rights of the Palestinian people?

The amount of attention Israel is drawing (boyoctts, protests etc) compared to countries with comparable or worse human rights abuses is peculiar, isn't it? I don't see tens of thousands of people in the streets of London every week condeming China, Iran, Yemen, or boycotting Chinese products. Why is that? Why are protestors so selective? Coupled with the fact that it's the ONLY Jewish state on earth, it really makes you think...

So we should let Israel continue with the genocide? Is that what you're saying?

@Sunshineonasameyday Okay, let's word the question differently.

Do you believe the actions of the Israeli government have been in contravention to the human rights of the Palestinian people?

Why are you so focused on this particular country? Are you also on threads discussing human rights abuses in other countries? Are you as knowledgable about the current human rights abuses in Yemen? Or the ongoing genocide against Nigerian Christians?

Actually since you have tagged along to the defense of Israel - why don't you answer the same question I asked the other user.

Do you condemn the state of Israel?

SocoBateVira · 18/06/2024 20:38

I would say hopefully she's not using any Chinese made products in her home made hummus endeavours (transport to shop, fridge etc) but we've already established the Uighurs don't meet the threshold to give a fuck.

Well, I give plenty of fucks about human rights abuses around the world. Everyone needs to start somewhere though, and for some people this is the conflict that has sparked a desire to change their behaviours. Everyone has to start somewhere. Rather than saying "well, you don't give a fuck about x so you shouldn't do y", this could be an opportunity to say "if you're doing y, you might also want to look into x because it's got some similarities".

(A full boycott of Chinese-made products is insanely hard... I do what I can though.)

HelpAGirlOut1234 · 18/06/2024 21:03

@fluffy90 I genuinely don't believe this has anything to do with this being a Jewish state.

I believe that for many, this is the first genocide people are seeing in practically real time and it has been upsetting, traumatic and absolutely disgusting to watch.

It doesn't take away from the horrific actions in other regions of the world. It is just this is the first time people have seen, with their own eyes, the destruction of a population of people taking place right on the world stage. And people feel powerless to stop it and shocked that it can happen.

I don't think people value the lives of people from other regions less.

Noonecares245 · 18/06/2024 21:01

If it was what I was saying, I would have said that. I read what I wrote and nowhere did I say that. I even said that other countries have "comparable" uman rights abuses, indicating that Israel has done wrong.

I said that the fixation on Israel compared to other countries is peculiar. I literally DO NOT SEE the same amount of protests, boycotts and threads on countries with comparable or worse human rights abuses, even those countries which the UK is propping up.

Noonecares245 · 18/06/2024 21:05

So folks here we have it - in writing, for everyone to see.

The supporters of Israel are struggling to condemn the atrocities, that have been documented for everyone to see, committed by State of Israel and when asked to condemn to such actions are bringing other conflicts to divert attention - you have literally proved my point I made earlier. I just wanted to highlight this to everyone else reading this.

fluffy90 · 18/06/2024 21:05

Are you aware of how many Nigerian Christians have been slaughtered this year? If not, shame on you for just blindly listening to the mainstream media and jumping on whatever bandwagon is the most visible at the current time.
