Boycotting Israeli products/services

the7Vabo · 18/06/2024 15:54

I’m trying my best to support the boycott. For those doing the same - what products/services are you using instead?

The hardest one for me has been giving up on going to Disney Paris next year. I had planned it as a joint birthday present, kids will be the perfect age. But I can’t stand in Disney with my kids knowing they support a regime killing kids.

Any good alternatives to Disney, or any other brand on the list?

@MoMo999

Hence, all the attempts to weaponise racism by claiming such boycotts are anti-Jewish.

Please quote exactly where this was said on this thread. (It hasn't been.)

Do you talk about weaponising racism with other minorities?

Highly offensive & inflammatory.

I wonder what motivates this?

Any thoughts on why you claimed Douglas Murray is a fascist? You're flinging a lot of accusations around willy-nilly.

The best thing to do with bullies in real life is to stand up to them, which is why Israel is internationally isolated now except for by the US, although it has been increasingly critical, and by silly Sunak.

The best thing to do with drama kings and queens or bullies on here is ignore them, which is not the gotcha they think it is, but just highlights their lack of comprehension.

He's on the 'wrong side' of course so name calling is de rigeur. Even if the word used is completely inappropriate, it only matters that it is derogatory in a hyperbolic way.

Internationally isolated except for the USA?

Your wishful thinking.

Well, let's have a look at this shall we?

First the UK is a staunch ally. Germany, France and Australia. Czech Republic
Second, 1.2 billion Indian Hindus in India are fervent supporters.
South Korea

Plus the Arab states that have normalised relations with Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia are getting closer.

And that's just a short list of a longer list.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Not just that - President Macron has also condemned Israeli behaviour. You only need to take a look at the majority of the nations voting against Israel in every UN vote these days, to know the facts.

As I said, boycotting Israel constitutes legitimate criticism, regardless of those who claim it is not.

You don't seem to realise you are undermining your own argument. If the passage of time has NOT diminished rhe horror of the Holocaust, then it makes it even more batshit to suggest that its a matter of opinion whether the current war in gaza is worse than the concentration camps and systematic extermination of 6 million Jewish people (including children).

I’ll start adding the word irony so you understand that the sentence was irony. Do you know why are all these websites lying then ?

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 21/06/2024 15:11

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 21/06/2024 13:16

Luckily there are limits to boycotts.

Germany is recognizing the extremism within BDS.

The France ban was illegal.

https://www.politico.eu/article/paris-court-overturns-israeli-ban-from-french-arms-show/

The great irony being that Macron uses - you guessed it - Israelis in his own security team.

Of course, if you want to boycott Israeli goods because you want to protest their government that's fine.

The problem is, it's feeding into violence against Jews in the West.

If you don't care that's happening, okay. At least have the courage of your convictions to admit the truth - you don't care about Jews.

Why are so many domestic politicians basing their campaign solely on Gaza?

Do they have nothing to say about Health, Education, the Economy, British values, Housing...why is that?

Why so obsessed with Israel?

Sudan barely gets a mention.

It's cute you think Macron doesn't get things wrong!

See the link above.

Mellowdramadrama · 21/06/2024 15:33

@DuskyBlueDepartingLight it's actually more amazing that you can't see that the unwavering support the allies first demonstrated at the start of the war is now wavering and rapidly diminishing for some.
With the ICC arrests looming over Netanyahu, it's hugely problematic for them. Nobody wants to be seen as complicit. Even within the Biden administration, there's many who are now attempting to jump off the sinking ship of what was once unconditional support.

I find it odd that the Israeli government are described as far right by most of the media and yet Biden and silly Sunak continue to be their (only two) real supporters. The far right is rightly condemned in all other contexts, but here we see a double standard at play again. It was joyous when Norway, Ireland and Spain recognised Palestine as a state recently and France called out Israel for their actions. I watched the press conference given by the Irish Leaders on this and it was superb.

Afaik, the media describes the current government of Israel as a coalition between six parties that cover the left, centrist, and right wings- the entire spectrum. It is only when talking about specific ministers’ shenanigans that the media then label the minister by their party’s alignment.

From wiki
The coalition government consists of six parties — Likud, United Torah Judaism, Shas, Religious Zionist Party, Otzma Yehudit and Noam

likud - right wing
United Torah - right wing
shas

Religious Zionist far right
Otzma far right
Noam far right

if this is right only 5/6 parties is right or far right. And the 1/6 only the fiscal past is centre left and the social one is right wing

Just to add- my objection comes from someone who uses words like “joyous” and “superb” in this context when there is NOTHING joyous or superb . Iran and Quatar are funding terrorism and have wilfully put innocent Palestinians in harm’s way . Netanyahu and his government don’t give a shit about Palestinians.
Ordinary Israelis and Palestinians have been infected with hatred because of their fear and grief.
There is nothing JOYOUS or SUPERB about any of that . FFS
