Where the hell are all the Palestinians meant to go now?
They were TOLD to go to Rafah, that Rafah was a safe place.
It’s just open extermination at this point.

From sky
The top United Nations court said the humanitarian situation in Rafah had "deteriorated further" since its previous court order for Israel to improve it, adding the situation there was classed as "disastrous".

So?

Israel doesn't recognise the ICC, so the ICC can't order them to do anything.

Hamas were also told to give back the hostages immediately and that didn't happen.

It's the ICJ not the ICC and Israel do recognise the ICJ as part of their membership of the UN

ConnieCounter · 24/05/2024 14:57

If I'm ever charged with a crime I'm going to try the "I don't recognise the court" line and see how far I get.

Israel is a rogue state that has long ignored international law. Hopefully this ruling will put some pressure on the states that continue to enable them.

Well it doesn't seem likely that Netanyahu will listen so no surprises there.
However, the rest of the world can see the their despicable actions in Rafah, that have little to no regard for human life and that despite one of the world's top courts asking them to stop, they still continued.
It also puts alot of pressure on countries who are supplying arms to Israel.

I doubt Israel will listen in any case.

They are so close to defeating Hamas that they won't stop now.

Perhaps Israel should leave the UN if it doesn't want to be subject to it's court

See you didn't acknowledge your mistakes

A rather imperious and arrogant posting that contributes nothing to the discussion.

Efacsen · 24/05/2024 15:25

And sadly Israel are very far away from defeating Hamas - their strategy of 'defeat and repeat' could drag this out for up to a decade - US have have said this isn't 'feasible'

@onegrumpyoldwoman I doubt Israel will listen in any case.

Yes, they continue to act with impunity and utter disgrace by intensifying air strikes minutes after the ruling
Striking in central Rafah now

In defiance of the Court order the IDF is currently bombing Rafah.

I feel sorry for the residents tonight, there will be a lot of vengeance enacted tonight.

Yes, revenge. As if the world can't see it for what it is. I actually feel sick

Minutes after the decision of the International Court of Justice, warplanes launched a series of air strikes on the Shaboura camp in the centre of the city of Rafah.
A local activist at nearby Kuwait Hospital told the BBC that the sounds of bombing were terrifying and clouds of black smoke hung over buildings in the Shaboura camp.
They said the rescue teams in the hospital were unable to reach the site of the raids due to the intensity of the strikes.

I don't think so - if I need a collection of fairy stories I'll read some old Noddy books.

It's spite to my mind - after the 26th Jan ICJ hearing instead of increasing humanitarian aid it was reduced by 2/3 for the whole of February

What does defeating Hamas look like? How do you know they are so close to achieving it?

100% Spite and defiance. It will be used as evidence in the pending case, but it's like the Israeli government doesn't care. The fact that the American judge voted in favour of all the orders should have made them pause, but there is distinct lack of self awareness.

From IDF reports.

According to Reuters, South Africa said they would be approaching the UN security council with Friday’s ICJ order.
