Where the hell are all the Palestinians meant to go now?
They were TOLD to go to Rafah, that Rafah was a safe place.
It’s just open extermination at this point.

This is the latest from the US less than two hours ago

The US will not support the Rafah offensive “currently envisioned by Israel” because it has yet to see a credible and implementable plan to protect the over one million Palestinians sheltering there, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller says.

because it has yet to see a credible and implementable plan to protect the over one million Palestinians sheltering there,

Pity they didn't take this position 40,000 lives ago

MushMonster · 06/05/2024 20:53

Thanks.
I had seen the tents pictures indeed, but Khan Yunis is a long way for ill and injured people to travel still.
It does not seem big enough either, somehow.
I do hope that they make it there ok and stay safe. For some reason, it is not convincing me.

The US are also not convinced so currently not supporting a ground offensive in Rafah

Sure there was never a credible plan to protect Palestinian lives.

The US need to act and not just pay lip service now. We are watching war crimes play out in front of our eyes and the US are still sending military aid. It just makes a mockery of international law and that makes us all less safe.

IhateSPSS · 06/05/2024 21:04

The comments on that Fail article linked above. I really hope they aren't real people who really think like that and are just bots. Right wing grim.

So will Hamas stay behind and get bombed and let the civilians out or how does that work?

I think they stay behind and wave white flags, just to make sure they get executed quickly.

MushMonster · 06/05/2024 21:08

How do they intend to differenciate between displaced civilians and Hamas hiding amonst them when they get to this new camps?
I do not see this clearly at all.

stomachamelon · 06/05/2024 21:09

I have read it's started (Rafah) I may be wrong.

According the the IDF numbers; if you are an adult male, you are Hamas.

MushMonster · 06/05/2024 21:12

I heard on the radio Israel is prepared to negotiate.
Spokesperson for US, it could have been Blinken, still saying they want a ceasefire (6 weeks), no Rafah attack and more aid in.

There was a suggestion during the week that there would be a ring of checkpoints and only women children and men of 'non-fighting age' would be allowed to evacuate from Rafah

stomachamelon · 06/05/2024 21:22

Update. If I am wrong I will withdraw it.

BBC is reporting it too. However, it’s not the first time they attack in Rafah

Israel has been bombing the safe zone of Rafah for quite awhile now, although it seems they have intensified the bombing in the east of Rafah tonight.

ConnieCounter · 06/05/2024 21:33

Yeah, I've been seeing dead kids being pulled from the rubble all week in Rafah. I guess they're just bombing them more now.

Parkingt111 · 06/05/2024 21:34

Not much notice for people to leave
The sick? The elderly? They only dropped leaflets approx 12 hours ago to evacuate and have already started their intensified bombing campaign. Those poor poor people who didn't manage to leave

stormy4319trevor · 06/05/2024 21:35

@Parkingt111 @Efacsen I wonder what not supporting means, though. Politely disagree, perhaps.

MushMonster · 06/05/2024 21:37

And they are meant to leave their sons, brothers and husbands behind?
To be bombed?

I'm worried that will include young boys, since I saw the photos of what looked like 8 year old boys detained with adult men, all in their underwear.

To be bombed?

It's an utterly appalling prospect if true

Plus there must be about 400k men of 'non-fighting age' in Rafah

Parkingt111 · 06/05/2024 21:44

This image is from the times showing Rafah right now
Looks like hell on earth

MushMonster · 06/05/2024 21:45

That is not feasible. There is no way they can make that work.

I'm not sure stormy, but it seems that Israel is saying the ceasefire deal that Hamas have agreed to is not the same as the one they put forward and agreed to

stormy4319trevor · 06/05/2024 21:47

Thanks @Parkingt111 Poor souls in Rafah, may God have mercy.
